My relaxed hair retained more length than the natural hair. I never did anything extra. I just bunned it and left it alone. I washed it every week. I roller set it myself, at times. I stretched for 6 months.

Contrary to popular belief, hairstyles such as box braids can be kept for three months if you know what type of box braids and how to care for your box braids. For example before I used to do normal box braids and I used to use about 4 to 6 packets of hair cause I have a big ass head, I could only keep those for around eight weeks before I started to lose edges and had significant breakage. after I started doing knotless box braids using only two packets of extension here, I can keep my box braids in for three months. In addition to using less breathing here, I also redo any vulnerable looking braids every three weeks, I wash and deep condition every two weeks, I a protein treat once monthly and I moisturize and seal my braids every three days. Massage your scalp, seal your edges all around the perimeter of your hair using a heavy oil like cast oil but seal your braids with lighter oils. If any hair is sticking out of the braid make sure you see all those braids with a heavy oil as well.

I always cut my natural though because it’s too much work. I had my second child in May and couldn’t keep up doing my hair again lol I just relaxed again in August and loving it! I simply use coconut oil or my preshampoo buildup remover (from head and shoulders ) to dissolve the build up and break down some of the oil and shedded hair causing the matting. I use my fingers to tease and separate the matted hair before I gently detangle with a comb. This works well for me. Thanks for watching ❤️

Thank you for watching 💕. I would wait AT LEAST two week after relaxing before putting in a protective style. Chemical relaxers ( especially if left too long) irritate the scalp. Combined with the tension put on the scalp with protective styles.... if done to soon you could have excessive hair shedding/thinning. Ianna, I ordered two bottles of Unlay. It smells great, and I'm looking forward to seeing the results! How often do you oil your scalp?
@IannaYvonne3 жыл бұрын
Hello!! Yes.. I love that citrus smell. I use it on my scalp every other day and a small amount on my hair for shine when it’s freshly styled. After a week when my style gets old I use it daily ( I usually wash biweekly). And please if you don’t do scalp massage try to include it in your routine. Even once a week starting out will make a huge difference with your hair growth. I didn’t believe it would, but I start doing it and girl... it works lol. Reach out if you have any questions and please keep me posted on your results. And of course thank you for watching ❤️

Do you recommend back to back protective styles or do you take breaks?
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
Hello! I have actually done both! I let the state of my hair decide. If I feel I have lost an excessive amount of hair during the detangling process or if the style put too much tension on my edges and I notice thinning.... I would take a break. Usually when I wear weaves I DO NOT do back to back installs. Knotless braids have MUCH less tension and I find my hair ( and edges) can withstand back to back styles.

Do you wash your hair when it's in a protective style for 3month's?
@IannaYvonne3 жыл бұрын
Hello! I do wash my hair while it’s in the protective styles. Just not as frequently. Usually once every 3-4 weeks.
@christiegreenrn3 жыл бұрын
Yes, they are cooking your hair as if your hair is in a frying pan when they use the brush and blow dryer. I have seen girls hair texture change to stay straight or just completely thin out if that is done too frequently a month.

What is a protecting style for 3 monthd
@IannaYvonne3 жыл бұрын
Hello. A protective style in anything that keeps your ends locked away and where you don’t have to comb/ style your hair daily. Examples are weaves, braids, locks and wigs. I usually keep mines in for at least 3 months. I have a video on my channel about protective styles if you are interested. Thanks for watching 💕

What about a mild relaxer?
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
Mild relaxers are recommended for fine hair and over processed/damaged hair. Although they have less active ingredients than regular or super perms they are still somewhat damaging and the tips from the video still apply 💕

Love your videos! I’ve experienced tremendous breakage last year and I want to try your routine. How often a week do you moisturize and with what product pls
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thanks for watching. I moisturize with a light oil when my hair is freshly styled ( light spritz on the ends). Once my style is old I moisturize with heavier oils DAILY and apply to my scalp with a quick scalp massage (2-3 minutes...it helps). I will use castor oil, and coconut oil. These are heavy and will weigh down your hair so again use close to wash time. Ethereal Hair Growth oil is a good oil containing a mixture of these oils ( and others) that you might want to try. My sister is natural... with longer hair than me lol and she ONLY uses this product. Again... it’s a thick oil so keep that in mind.

@@IannaYvonne thank you! The ethereal oil is the light one you spritz on ends correct?
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
I use an oil called UNLAY but unless you live in the NYC area you can’t get it as it is not on the website yet. Although I was told its coming! When it does I’ll do a full product review. A good drugstore alternative is the raw Shea butter restorative finishing elixir. It by Shea moisture ( I really love that line... it just worked for my hair 🤷🏽♀️) I used this before unlay and it worked well to hydrate without weighing my hair down.

Can a jet black colour be damaging?
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Unfortunately all hair dye is damaging however darker hair colors are LESS so. If your hair is in a healthy state ( not excessively dry or brittle) you probably won’t have any issues with regular conditioning and moisturizing post color. If you do have dry hair that is prone to breaking, I would suggest a black rinse or a semi permanent color.

Quick question: Should you keep a protective style like a weave for more than a month? I understand for braids, but not sure for weave. You’re very pretty btw :)
@IannaYvonne4 жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you 💕 and thanks for watching!! I keep ALL my protective styles in for at least 3 months😬. Braids are definitely easier because you can refresh the front if needed to help with the appearance .... but in order to see Maximum hair growth I recommend 3 months. If you do a bang closer ( with none of your real hair as leave out) it helps with the appearance a bit as it starts to grow out. Again use an oil base product to remove build up and detangle gently.
