I planted one fig tree last year and 7 this year and they`re in the ground and getting gigantic already here in Louisiana. I`m hoping we don`t get another 0 degree freeze this year so they`ll be able to fruit next year. I bought an extra tarp to cover my biggest Celeste tree until it can mature enough to get cold hardy. I planted a Brown Turkey for the first time last year and the figs are gigantic. I heard people say they`re no good but mine are delicious and so big that only 5 or 6 would make a meal. The tree was damaged by cold though and didn`t begin setting fruit until July and is still making new figs and is already a very big tree. Our Celeste trees always produced early so maybe these are a good combo. I saved space for a couple of other varieties and planted 4 dwarf mulberry trees to add variety and distract the birds but I also got mesh tree coverings and 100 organza bags. I`m gonna put a couple of rooted cuttings in a nearby grassy field for birds.

I forget where you are. South Carolina? I'm in Charleston, and yes, air layering here seems so easy! The real struggle for me is getting fruit. I now have 10 copies of my first fig tree, but I don't even know what variety it is. I just know I'm not getting fruit after three years.
