This is basically exactly what I thought all of America was when I was growing up 😅

I love how you turned philosophical at the end. I’m 13 so I grew up with the internet. That means I can’t respond to your particular question but something I often think about is like how my past would have been viewed under a different lens.

That's also something fascinating to think about! We see so much of the world through filters now that didn't used to exist. There are so many things out there that seem cooler than they are and plenty of awesome things that struggle to show how cool they are without fancy social media prowess. It's all really interesting!

Exactly like a lot of things are coming back into fashion but are being used in a different way like vinyl is more of a collectors item. There are a lot of things that are trying to put a twist on themselves like Disney. It is interesting to think about how for example a lot of like trends and stuff are very media based and wouldn’t have happened without the internet and like memes. While for other things I notice it feels more cheap with the media that they market/promote theme selves or are promoted with. I also feel like things that are cool but don’t have a good media setup and their for example website was really outdated and hard to use as well as ugly and doesn’t explain their message it can really effect the company in a lot of ways many negative.

I grew up in Mount Vernon, WA and while it's a very small, quiet farm town, it gets very busy for a couple of months because we're in the Skagit Valley, where we have fields of daffodils then tulips. When people ask me where I'm from, I tend to say near Seattle because they don't know Mount Vernon, but they will recognize Skagit Valley. It's bizarre!

Went to high school in Mesquite. As a rodeo town our mascot was a Stallions. The art students made a stallion to display at football games. It was anatomically correct and school board were appalled. Then we were the geldings. Conservatives are silly.

Monty Python -- who knew! That was so cool, I had no idea a Texas PBS station brought it to the US first.

I do follow my high school on Twitter. Quite a few things are different, but the stuff that hasn't changed is always a bit reassuring.

Just wanted to say a big thanks for releasing your videos with subtitles. I'm not deaf myself, but I still appreciate that some creators are concerned about the people with hearing problems, who still want to have access to their videos
@jackisnotabird4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It’s pretty tough during Vlogmas, but the KZbin auto captions have actually gotten SO GOOD that I just have to go in and edit a handful of words. It’s way easier than it used to be so other creators really don’t have an excuse to not be captioning these days. At least get them up within 24 hours, if not upon release (that’s my goal for Vlogmas, but all other videos will always be captioned upon release).

My parents and brother live in the DFW area and now when I visit I need to see Grapevine
@pmbluemoon4 жыл бұрын
OH DUDE!!! Just because I'm a South Park FANATIC, (I hope you've seen a few) There's these grapes that are called "Member Berries" and if you ever have a chance to watch a few of those episodes, my mind goes to your Grapevine, Texas having "Member Berries" as mascots! I know I might not be making any sense, but if you know what I'm talking about, you 'll get a good laugh! Look up a few episodes, it's worth a good laugh! I'm 42 years old and get the whole "Member Berries" bit, I hope you do too, I always love to find goofy things for people to check out and chuckle about! 😁😀 I have lived in Marble Falls, TX, Liberty Hill, TX, and Kingsland, TX (or was it Kings Cove...?) It was a street and town name, I get them mixed up sometimes) LAKE LBJ!!!! YEAH! that was my fav swimming hole before they developed around it! I lived there when I was around 14 years old, I'm sure it's changed a LOT by now! I went to Marble Falls middle school back then... My hometown of Biwabik, Minnesota has something called the Weihnachtsfest Fest they light the trees and have fireworks. Still going on today, LOVED the festival when I lived there, now I rarely get to it in time. Thank you for the video Jackson! 😀👍💯

I enjoy hearing others talk about where they grew up. I still live in my most recent hometown - I moved here in middle school, and it's grown quite a bit since then with so many people moving here, but I still like it here, especially the areas around the historic downtown.

I miss Love and War. They have a location in Plano but it's just not the same. (Not gonna stop me from going there the next time I'm visiting my sister in Garland, though.)

I feel like my thing that I experienced without the internet was actually harry potter. I was only 9 when the last book came out, so I wasn't really on social media when that was happening. I feel like it was great that I got to experience the books without all the discourse surrounding JKR (not that it is not rightful discourse; she has been acting like a royal jerk recently). I also really liked doing theatre before social media (in middle school, not high school-by the time I was in high school all the theatre kids had made their profile pictures their headshots) because we didn't have all the pressure to make every performance absolutely perfect and got to revel in the idea of live performance never being captured...at 12.

"North Texans love Monty Python" Fucking facts. My dad was from DFW and he loooooooooooooved Monty Python. Honestly not sure if it's because of Texas, or because he lived in England in the early '90s but still

Oh shit! You're from DFW! I'm from Arlington myself, but I live in Dallas now. And Arlington High School's mascot was the Colts. And I work at Dallas Love Field Airport, hahaha. -edit- My buddy's wife was a pastry chef at the Gaylord for a while. Also, my grandma lived in Grapevine when I was a kid, and I also thought it was called great vine.

I'm from cen Europe (Vienna) so most things you said in this video seemed absolutely weird to me! But I guess every city/town has its quirks. Like for me it's super normal to walk around the city and see literal horse carriages and people dressed up as Mozart trying to sell things to tourists
@annemcrowell4 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize you were from Grapevine! (I bet that's going to be obvious once I start reading your book, which I just got.) I lived in Colleyville in elementary school. It is baffling to me that Grapevine has an instagram - like of course it does, but I moved away from the area in 2001, and some part of my brain just assumed that place paused its existence entirely when I left and did not adapt to modern technology in any way.

I feel that way all the time about places that I disconnected with. Social media is just so common now so I’m not really shocked by it anymore, but I know what u mean. Have u tried cutting ur own hair? I used to trim mine when I had a pixie cut, it was surprisingly easy actually lol bc most of the short hair blends in after u ruffle it a bit.

I know there’s at least one town in North Texas that has silly walk signs instead of regular walk signs. The python love is a thing.
