I'm glad you called out the whole "fine dining is bad because rich people" bullshit. Stupid ideas from expensive restaurants aren't helping their case, but the thought that wanting to create a dining experience or wanting to have that experience makes someone "the enemy" is absurd.

Dude I’ve been a chef for a decade now and actively involved in leftist organizing for half a decade. It’s so exhausting having champagne socialists and trust fund Marxist academics tell me that I’m “petit-bourgeois” because I’m a chef that works primarily in fine dining. Sure, I have made food for the elites and celebrities and I’ve never been happy about it. We chefs are still working class. We work jobs in which we ruin are bodies, work long hours, receive low pay, little thanks and we are at higher risk of substance abuse and suicide than many other careers. Furthermore, restaurants must be abolished.

you mentioning dynamic pricing for supermarkets put The Fear into me, but unfortunately the second scenario you proposed - the price skyrockets for people who don't care - already exists here in the uk. our largest retailer, tesco, locked all its offers/deals behind its loyalty scheme about three years ago, and most other supermarkets have been introducing their own in the past year or so.

One bronze lining of dynamic pricing might be that a phreaking culture might come back. Back in the day when payphones were an important utility, there were groups of people who figured out how to basically hack them to call for free or very cheap. It expanded from pay phones to self-checkout to magnetic stripe cards and much more. There are still phreakers out there, but largely its been captured by more capitalist interests like ticket botting and such. If commerce tech starts to get out of hand, I'll be among the first to start swapping account with people to artificially lower my grocery prices, and see if there're any exploits to get shit for insanely cheap. At least then I wouldn't have to regular steal from walmart like everyone else.

Would just like to say, I appreciate seeing these compilations. I don’t use Twitch so I always miss out on the streams. However, I get that the keys jingled in your face editing style is the standard, especially for stream clip videos, but I find you engaging and entertaining as is. Visual examples, cuts, and music are fine, but everything else is a bit much. As an example, DarkViperAU has a channel (Viper Rambles) dedicated to compilations of his on stream conversations. Just cuts, transitions, and occasional visual example. The conversation doesn’t need anything added to it to hold your attention. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind just straight up full stream archives too. Many people dedicate full channels to that.

Good news: the vibes are bad, but the job market is good. Unemployment is at like a 50-year low, and inflation-adjusted wages for the lowest-paid decile of workers has grown faster than any other segment of the population. A lot of the vibes I think are based on an employer's view of the economy. "How cheaply can I get other people to do stuff?" (e.g., cook my food, wait on me, drive me around). If that's the perspective, then the economy looks terrible, because all those people have better job prospects and hiring people for shitty jobs has become way harder and more expensive post-pandemic. Many upper-middle class people have not seen wage growth, and they also tend to consume services that rely on cheap labor, so a lot of them have bought into this view.
