Each item in the in-game store costing 600 Eldenbucks 3. Live service models being the core of future soulslike experiences 4. $40 DLC that adds a new mount skin and one new weapon 5. Paying Eldenbucks to revive or refill my flasks 6. Paywall talisman slots and spell slots 7. Fromsoft was left alone under kadokowa and, unless Sony transfers them to being managed by the american branch of Sony (who are the ones responsible for pretty much all the past fuckups), they'll probably be left alone under Sony too. I don't think the head honchos in Japan would bother giving the other branch Fromsoft when it's such a cash cow. From what I know, it was a big funder for kadakowa. They'll probably keep it like that fund the anime stuff they're getting.

I have genuinely no idea where people are getting the idea that Sony is the biggest pusher of battles passes, live service, and other slop. Like it sounds like yall are just describing Microsoft and EA. Did any of the new god of war games, bloodborne, horizon, or any other single player exclusive from them include a battle pass or micro transactions? Hell, they let Sony Santa Monica release a FREE story dlc for ragnorok, which they could’ve easily pushed for 15-30$. Sony isn’t great, but they aren’t the worst perpetrators of the slop being pushed in modern games. This seems much worse for the anime and manga fans since Sony is coming way closer to a monopoly in that aspect.

Truth is, FromSoft is going to be fine if its games are only PS and PC because that's where the majority of its audience is already. Plus, Sony is less likely to push them to incorporate microtransactions as they don't generally do that to their single player experiences - as in most of their catalogue.

What are you on about? Sony was the ones who released the Original release of Demon’s Souls onto PS3 in 2009, they published the first game in the Souls genre. They then published Bloodborne in 2015. Without Sony deciding to publish a difficult game in their home country, we would never even have Elden Ring in the first place. Now Sony and Fromsoft are in the same place (possibly because of protection from a hostile take over attempt) it means a lot of those barriers have been taken away. If this was a mutual agreement there was definitely discussion of producing games specifically for sony

This is a sad day to be sure, but I'm also worried about how anime is potentially going to change. Despite being Japanese, Sony has made a strong connection to the West in its business practices and has made massive changes to cater to a broader Western market. Anime and games have been getting more and more restricted to reach what is claimed to be "acceptable content." Not all, but a lot of games have been suffering from these types of businesses for a few years now, making them feel lacking in authenticity. Now with Sony taking over Kadokawa, especially the publishing side of things, I sadly think anime is going to be facing the same problem. Hopefully not, but my trust in Sony to make the right decisions is nonexistent.

Tbh, I was really disappointed in the quality/lore/items and bosses of Shadow of the Erdtree, despite really liking the base game. I feel like fromsoft has lost a good chunk of their “challenging but not outright bs” design philosophy that they mostly got right in DS1/2/3, bloodborne, and Sekiro, I wasn’t looking forward to any new souls game honestly
