I Hacked Strava to Show the True Scale of the Universe

So I hacked a fitness app (Strava) to make it show the true scale of the universe. Well, sort of. Using their api feels like you’re doing something illegal. I wasn’t though. I was always fascinated by these “True scale of the universe” videos and thought what if I. as a web developer, could use some javascript to allow anyone with the internet connection experience the true scale of the Universe themselves, interactively. Wouldn’t it be better than watching a video?
That thought occurred to me while I was working on a client project involving Strava.
So I thought, hmm… what if I can combine the two…?
This video is about how I did that.

I love Mark.
============= The app:
I didn’t have a chance build a nice site for it, so its just a script on the server and a link which will ask you to allow access to your Strava profile, so it can add stuff to the description of your newly created or modified activities:
www.strava.com/oauth/authoriz...
118020&redirect_uri=citys-a-speck.onrender.com/co...
I’m also required to mention here that the sound of a water splash you hear in the beginning is
Splash, Jumping, G.wav by InspectorJ on freesound.org, Attribution 4.0.
How odd.

Hey, Philipp! I'm glad you have a new video! And I would add one little thing to your example. So, a city-grain has a size of 0.5 mm, which is equivalent to 50 km. Or we take 0.0001 m of our world as 10 km of the sand-scale world. That is, 1 of our centimeter will be equal to 1,000 kilometers for residents of the city-grain. 1 meter - to 100 000 km. 1 our km - to 100 000 000 km of grain-scaled world. And the entire distance of 4 km will mean 400 million kilometers. Why am I doing these calculations? The speed of light in a vacuum in our world is 300,000 km per second. Or three meters per second. It turns out that the light would travel 4 km of your path in 22 minutes. The sped-up video is about two minutes long, but you probably walked for about 40 minutes - normal walking speed, twice as slow as the speed of light. That is, the speed of light at this scale would be the speed of a person running at a fast pace. And this is the maximum speed of anything in the universe. Just imagine how abnormal slow it is relative to cosmic distances.

Haha wow thats amazing, thanks!! I thought of adding the speed of light in the calculations, comparing it to your average speed on the route (this data is available too) but didn't get to adding it. Didn't get to calculating it hence didn't get to being blown away by the result. Really really cool! Thank you.
