Sota you are so courageous and mature for your age. You really have my respect. Despite such a serious procedure, you remained calm and collected to even go out of your way to film and explain your hospital stay! Your are such a great role model for other children. I'm so glad that your surgery was successful, especially for an open heart surgery. I also follow you on Instagram, when I found out that you were going through this surgery, I prayed hard that everything will be ok and now I have no doubt that you're well on your way to full recovery. Keep it up, eat healthy and always follow your doctor's advice 😊

I had open heart surgery as a baby for a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. But I can't imagine going through that surgery as a teenager. I'm very impressed by how you remained so calm and optimistic about it. I'm sure your parents gave you a lot of love and support (I know your brothers did, that was so sweet of them!) I'm glad you're doing better now and can return to your normal routine. (Oh, and you have good taste in music. Was that "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen? Nice. 80s music is very cool.)

Oh my goodness. I'm so relieved that your surgery went well and you are back home. Such a lot to go through and it looks like the doctors did a good job. Don't rush recovery but also don't just sit around. I had a heart blockage last year. A stent was put in - a lot less complicated than your surgery. It cost $165,000 USD. A week after discharge I was back in the hospital with chest pain - another $35,000. Luckily my two insurance policies covered the cost and most of the cost of medicine I have to take all the time. But enough of that. Safeguard your health and continue to get stronger. You and yours are in my prayers. ✌️🙏🏻

Oh Sota, it's so nice to see your doing so well (with Yuta and Ryota's help!) I worked in a hospital kitchen for 18 years and your right, no salt and pepper in those eggs! It's to cover all the different diet requirements plus, they are probably powered eggs (cost efficient...yuck!) And the bread probably comes in bags so to transport it out of the kitchen, it has to be wrapped somehow for sanitary reasons! Hang in there, and keep getting stronger! Fighting! 💐

I'm glad your surgery went well! Well done on recovering quickly so you could get a faster release. I had a week in the hospital last year and it was so boring, so I can't imagine what even longer was like. I'm glad you at least got to get visitors (none for me, which was sad). The worst food for me when I was in was tuna mixed in with the scrambled eggs. What is that about, Japan? I'm from the UK where medical care is currently completely free. So when I first moved to Japan, it shocked me that I had to pay at the hospital. But having been here for over 5 years now, I think the health insurance system is great! I'm glad your stay didn't cost much. I hope you carry on with a speedy recovery at home :)

Thank you for this informative and heartwarming video, Sota! Glad the operation went well and you are doing OK. As to your question, I looked up the price list of our local ”wellbeing district” (that’s the adminstrative level of government responsible for healthcare). I can’t be 100 % sure I am interpreting it right but apparently a day surgery would cost around 150 € and the hospital day fee is 54.60 €. I am not sure if they charge both or just the day charge, probably the latter (?). So it seems the cost for 14 days at Tampere University Hospital, in Finland, would be 764.40 € (or around 915 € if you need to pay for the surgery separately). That would be ¥127,756 (¥152,553) or $831 ($995) in USD. There is a public health insurance that applies to all citizens and residents that covers most of the cost (which you as a patient wouldn’t even know of) but this fee is what the patient needs to pay out of pocket. It may sound like much, and can be tough for those who are less well off, but I think there are mechanisms in place to support those. In addition, there is an annual fee ceiling after which all care is free of charge. Still, it is just a tiny fraction of the total cost of the care covered by the public purse. Some countries have a more generous system and others charge you much more. So it feels like an average type of rate, and the quality of care is excellent. My daughter actually had knee surgery last year and stayed at the hospital for 2 days. She enjoyed her time at the pediatric ward and was taken care of so well that it was truly heartwarming.
@syrbros.fromtokyototheworld5 ай бұрын

I am so amazed by the health system in Japan. I am from Guatemala and the health system here is so bad. No joke I had to rewind three times when you were talking about the prices being US$20 I was in the hospital with sepsis last year for over a month during that month I lost the use of my right arm. I ended up with a third-degree burn on my chest because nobody would help me make tea and I ended up dumping it all myself. I also couldn’t walk properly. I was meant to go to a rehab center but instead, they were sending me home because I had a service dog and nobody would take the service dog because I’m blind. They literally threw me to wheelchair drive me to my house threw me on the bed and told me hopefully somebody will come the next day wasn’t the worst of it got the medication only was $5000 i’ve been paying it off for over a year and a half and still have not come even close to paying it off. The hospital bill was hundreds of thousands of dollars during the time I had two MRIs surgery, specialized test and a few other things I was diagnosed of having a broken arm that wasn’t broken instead of sepsis. The care that you received in the hospital is completely different than the US hospital. I was left to lay in pus. I had to beg to get a toothbrush and toothbrush once a day it was unbelievable. I never felt so vulnerable in my entire life, and although I’ve been disabled most of my life, I have never felt this helpless as I was during this time , I remember because I was just trapped in my bed needing a drink of water and hardly anybody would help. It’s unbelievable who can’t get it she can’t afford it.

@@syrbros.fromtokyototheworld how do you feel now..?? Do you have or need to check up ever now and then with the doctor? I'm glad that your surgery went well 😊
My younger cousin, who is about 7 years old, also had a heart surgery a few months ago. She has an enlarged heart, so it eventually will kill her if she doesn't get a heart transplant. The hospital couldn't find a donor soon enough so she had to stay in a major hospital for a month before getting a heart surgery in which they carve the walls of her heart so that she can live longer. I find that you were very brave, and that your family members must have supported you very much, because such heart surgeries can be very dangerous! Many things can go wrong, even after the surgery has happened.

Open heart surgery really involves a lot of risks and is hard on the patient🙏 I hope that your cousin is able to find a donor and recover🙏

13:01 USA here, yeah hospital eggs here aren't great either. I think it's because they are rehydrated powdered eggs. And our bread is sealed in plastic here too.

My dad had to have open heart surgery back in 2008. It was weird he walked into the doctors office for a regular doctors appointment then they rushed him to the hospital to do open heart surgery. My dad had no idea there was even anything wrong until the doctor caught it~ It happened a year after I graduated high school. It was scary back then seeing my dad go through that whole experience... Hope your surgery went well~ ❤👍

I remember when you were in the hospital before. I hope this is the last time. Children's hospitals have a lot of nice amenities, but they are still hospitals. Best wishes to you.

Here is the short version of how it works in Germany. You pay about 14% of your income every month into the health insurance system. There are some exceptions to this rule, like for kids (as they don’t work) or university students with part-time jobs (who are charged a lower amount if any at all). That then covers the cost of surgeries, doctor visits etc. Although based on why you visited a doctor/hospital, you may be charged x% of the cost, but there are limits on how much you can be charged. Anything above that limit is covered by the health insurance system. Those limits although depend on various things, like why you visited the doctor, whether you had regular health check-ups etc. Oh and while the system itself comes from the government and is mandatory, there is not one company that provides the health insurance. You can choose a company you register with for your health insurance. And most importantly, you are also covered when you don’t have a job, aka when you earn 0 money. That’s the short version. If you dig deeper, it gets a bit more complicated, although I imagine the same applies for Japan, too. I’m glad that the surgery went without any problems and I hope you can enjoy all your normal activities again without any trouble. :) Btw, as you showed a totally fair game of chess in the video: Do you guys know which board game is more popular in Japan: Shogi, chess or Go (囲碁)?
@syrbros.fromtokyototheworld4 ай бұрын
Thank you for watching the video and also telling us how it is in Germany as well😃 And I think Shogi is the most popluar in Japan😊
