That's funny, because DeBarge was married to Janet Jackson right around this time. He was produced by Barry Gordy, who produced artists like Michael Jackson, the Jackson 5 and Marvin Gaye. DeBarge was also featured on the soundtrack of Barry Gordy's kung fu movie The Last Dragon.

@Sascha D I agree with you! Especially on the point of a producer having a big influence on an artist's sound. One example I like to give in that regard is Linkin Park with Don Gilmore & Rick Rubin. "Minutes to Midnight" had a much different vibe/feel/sound than "Meteora," IMO.

I had heard of DeBarge, but in my youth I listened to mostly music out of Seattle. So, thanks to your fans, I'm learning new genres too. It's brilliant! I dance like nobody's watching! I dance when I'm mowing the yard because it should be a law that when you're doing yardwork, you have to listen to music. Most mowers won't run without gas. Mine won't run without music!

I still f-ing love this. They had other hits but most of them were ballads. El Debarge had some solo hits like "Who's Johnny". A good follow up would be Miami Sound Machine "Conga" and "Dr Beat". Also maybe Five Star "Love Takeover" and "System Addict"

Fantastic Song! - Junior year of high school when this was released. There are 2 other hits that I love by this group: Who's Holding Donna Now & Who's Johnny. Rhythm Of The Night reminds me of spending Spring break in St. Petersburg Beach Florida in April of 1985. Being I'm from Michigan I'll toss this in. El DeBarge and his siblings are from Detroit. They also lived in Grand Rapids. You should read about his background (along with the others in the group & family). I'm sure that there's videos about their history as well. A lot of ups & downs. His story is very inspirational. *Check It Out*
