i have done far too many of those EGRs, [in situ, OS driveshaft out + exhaust pulled back] i did one TWICE, first time i fitted a generic part, lasted 2 weeks, NEVER GUNNA DO THAT AGAIN... after you have cleared the egr codes direct, you usually have to re-calibrate the egr data on the special functions section of your diagnostic tool best of luck

EGR Valve. What a pain in the arse. Mine went on a 46k Golf convertible, with full history. Cost £950 to fix! I only run it on V power diesel to stop it going.again. 🤞🤞

Shame you had issues getting the right part for the van. It has been a bit of trouble all the way through. Hope you can sort out the issue and get the van running. You will be glad to get out of dealing with vans. They never seem straightforward.

You have to clear the fault code directly in the engine module, not via quick fault scan.

When I see a van I also see a pile of invoices . Had a couple of vehicles with EGR trouble and could not get any garage to carry out the necessary work. One guy tried spraying with EGR spray but obviously this did not work. Someone suggested Mr Muscle but I just gave up on both vehicles.

No VW stamp on the 2nd EGR 🤔 genuine EGR is around £500. Cheap copies are even less reliable than genuine....and genuine are not all that reliable

Someone said that I could have the EGR valve plated off and I bought the part from E bay. Decided to shelve this because surely the EGR valve has a very important function.

You can fit the blanking plate and the engine performance will be fine - better even! The EGR valve is there for emissions control only, and the engine can run quite happily without it, with the added bonus of not having exhaust gases clogging up the inlet manifold. You will however get an EGR warning light on the dash which would be a MoT failure. The remedy for that is to get the EGR deleted from the code. You could also get a Stage 1 tune at the same time. Don't ask me how I know all of this! 😉

If engine can run with a blanked off egr how come it runs like shit when the egr is blocked?

@@bikeman123 If the EGR valve is jammed open or partially open then the engine would run badly, if there is a total blockage of the EGR system and no exhaust gas flowing into the inlet then the engine should run OK.
