@@crazylifehomestead you’re the best!! I’m trying the shavings over shavings in the chicken coop this winter!! It’s currently 3 degrees in new Hampshire. So far so good! It’s warm in the coop! We’re getting pigs this spring and meat chickens so I’m sure I’ll have questions 😂

We use a 32 gallon black trash can from Walmart and installed chicken water cups from Amazon at the bottom. It has worked out great for us in Arkansas. We have around 18 chickens and it takes them several days to go through it.

That sounds like a great set up! I’ll have to give that a try!

For the chicken watering, look up "poultry nipples" they work great on my flock. You just drill (use a paddle bit) three or four holes in the bottom of a 5 gallon pail (or other vessel) and screw them in, put the lid on and they have 5 gallons of clean water. You also have to make a stand for the bucket to sit in but that's it! For training just deprive them of water for a bit just so they are thirsty and tap the watering nipple with your finger. once one bird catches on the rest follow pretty quickly.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely have to give that a try.

I was helping my sister-in-law feed her chickens when a chicken mite? flew into my eye. I don't know for sure if it was a mite or not, that is just what my husband said it was. My eye swelled shut and I couldn't open it for a number of days. I had to drive from the lower Missouri to middle Iowa with only one eye. It was horrible. I would suggest you were eye goggles when around chickens!

CHARLOTTES WEB HEMP CHEWS (chicken flavor) work wonders for obnoxious goats!

GRAIN can cause inflammation and NOT recommended by vet for male goats. This could create blockage and cause a n emergency vet visit.
