I cut my sleep in half for a week and researched how it affects fat loss, metabolism, ageing, muscle, brain function and more! This is why sleep is so important.

Idk why so many people think it’s cool to be team no sleep. It’s not. We need sleep. I sleep 8-10 hours, cannot imagine cutting that in half! This is such a great idea for a video, and hopefully people watching will consider prioritising their rest!💗💗

Yeah I’ve noticed a bit of a trend towards that too - I kind of get where it comes from and I have to be fair and say there are enough times where I sacrifice sleep when things I value more mean I have to (eg if I need to work til super late to prepare for a meeting), and I think as a motivational mindset I can kind of get where some people come from in saying success takes sacrifice in all aspects of life, but I totally agree with you - I don’t think it should be cool or aspirational to live that way consistently ❤️ thank you so much for watching Dena 😊

I totally agree but, I'm in Junior High which means I'm balancing 5 different classes work, XC, track and soccer, anytime I want to hang out with friends, and then time to relax. I also have trouble falling asleep as I always am stressed, depressed, and overthink things which gets me very little sleep. Also, I don't know where you live but where I live we are in school from 7:45 to 3:00 but my mom is a teacher so we get to school at around 7:00 which gets me awake at 5:30. Everyone else gets out at around 2:45 to 3:00 but I leave the school from 4:30 to 5:00.

Amaaazing video - I absolutely love you and your attitude. You've actually changed my life and helped me gain so much momentum (i started hitting gym, gained muscle, also smashed my uni exams etc..)! It would be so interesting if you could do a crazy experiment week involving you drinking a lot of ALCOHOL daily and not sleeping much, *but* exercising/moving a lot - almost mimicking a music festival? I always lose tonnes of weight at festivals, despite barely sleeping, drinking loads and eating pizza/junk. Keep delivering the fantastic content, much love from a fellow bio/scientific girl xoxoxo

Natacha Océane hey i have a question. I have bad sleep cycle for many years.because of that i can't get enough sleep. I just can't sleep at night .i sleep mostly in the morning. And now i am trying to shed fat. What do you think sleeping in morning is okay? If i just can't sleep at night.
@rahafrab7052
@rahafrab7052 6 жыл бұрын
Can you do an experiment with protein? Like not having protein powder and lower your protein intake for a week or two. I don't want you to lose your progress and if you think it'll affect it don't do it 😅 just that I wanna know if protein is That important and if really we need to think about having a decent amount of proteins daily or we can't reach the results we want, also some just can't afford protein powders and supplements.

Ohhh Dear! Don't do this type of experiment again, it clearly is harmful. I hope you are better now or soon. Thank you of this but, you don't need to be sick to prove anything ok? Kisses and hugs!

Especially hunger. Oh man nothing is worse than getting no sleep then your body just wants carbs all day. I always eat the worst when I have no sleep. For example I had to fly on Thursday to Michigan and I had a great night sleeping and wasn't as hungry on the trip. On the way back I had an early flight and no sleep and all I wanted was carbs and sugar to keep me awake. Luckily on Monday I was back to normal again, but it's awful.

Oh my gosh, you’re brave doing this! I feel irritable and hungry all day if I get anything under 6 hours sleep a day (how I’ll handle life when I become a mum, I don’t know! Lol) I was listening to a podcast recently and they were saying how people try to outdo each other with the smallest amount of sleep and wear it as a badge of honour, when really it’s the opposite. They’re doing themselves no favours as you listed here with messing with hormones, enhancing ageing and lowering their immunity.

What a great idea for the video, I hope it will help people realize how important sleep is! I feel like sometimes people use a lack of sleep as a status symbol (like a my job is so stressful, I only slept four hours last night kind of thing), and like you said at the end of the video it seems that people often feel guilty about getting a solid 7/8 hours when it's really a very basic thing to do for your health! And it's definitely true that you tend to have more energy and get things done quicker when you're well rested as opposed to when you're sleep deprived. I even read somewhere that being very sleep deprived is basically like being drunk (and yet people would still drive and make important decisions). Thanks for making this video!

Gosh this is way too recognizable. I get up at 6am for work every day, and usually get home by 8pm (I go to the gym from work). By the time I've eaten and have prepared everything for the next day it'll be 9pm, and so more often than not, I don't make it to bed by 10pm as I'd like to, cause I'll still want some downtime. End result is that I indeed recognize everything you mention in this video. Thanks for the great quality content!

Thank you so much for watching Kim! I'm sorry to hear that and totally get the feeling of wanting more down time which pushes back the sleep time. I had about four hours sleep a night for three years, due to a job that started early in the morning and an inability to fall asleep early due to stress. After three years, the lack of sleep, combined with both personal and professional stress, plus not looking after myself at all, lead to me having a breakdown, quitting my job and not being able to do anything for a number of months. It's amazing what eight hours sleep and looking after yourself does for your mental and physical self, I've finally been able to claw my way out of this hole and become a person again. You always have SO much energy when you workout, I find it so inspiring. Even when you’re sleep deprived your mindset is so driven. How do you find all that energy to have such high intensity workouts? I find I’m struggling with the motivation lately. I’d love a video with tips on staying on track and motivation 🤷🏽‍♀️ Loved the video! Thank you for enduring that for us, I sure learned a lot!!

Hey Kallan! Thank you girl, that’s so kind! ❤️ honestly all my intensity comes from being excited to achieve the next thing I’m working towards which I always make sure is something I’m super excited about, like nailing my backflips or muscle ups. The other thing is I train 3-5 hours a week and just make sure they’re intense - a lot of the time people have the impression I train more than that and I’m not sure where it comes from! But that rest allows me to do a lot more 😊 I hope that helps a little in some way! ❤️ and thank you so much for watching and being so kind!

Late comment: I totally recognise the 'annoyance' feelings when you are tired as shit. I also have like the least control over my emotions so whenever somebody sneezes too loud in my direction, the tears already come rolling (which is completely ridiculous really...). But thanks for this vid! Now I can better associate my moods/cravings with what is going on with my body

So glad that there is a fitness KZbinr that actually uses research and science to support their recommendations! After watching this now I really regret cutting my sleep for the last years..... There were so many days that I just felt so low and like laying in bed all day and watching Netflix. The saddest things of all is that I am just 16 years old. Whenever I'd have an exam coming up I'd stay up late till 1 am and get up at 6 to get ready for school. I'd still do good on the exam but as soon as I got home I was ready to pass out. My eyes randomly started to burn bc I was so tired and I felt super week. I sincerely thank you for doing this video, you actually are great and really motivated me to renew my sleep schedule and to stick to at least 8 hours of sleep. You're a great inspiration! Thank you so much

Hey, I know you wrote this like...a year ago, but I just stumbled across the exact same thing. I'm 17, doing a pretty hard school, I totally don't have enough sleep and I was wondering "what the hell is wrong with me, i cant do anything right" and a few days ago I just didn't wake up, i slept the whole day, didn't go to school, and didn't even know about it. That made me realise I need to slow down. However I really don't know, what to sacrifice, grades, time with friends or what.... How did your situation change over the year?

This is exactly why I can't stand people who say there are 'no excuses for not working out'! I'm a student and get about 5 hours of sleep on average per night, attend class for 8 hours a day and have to study once I get home. Yes I do have 20 minutes to spare for working out but most of the time I am so exhausted that I'd rather spend that time taking a breather. I used to feel so bad when comparing myself to fitness influencers who had the time to work out 2 hours daily and eat proper meals at set times in the day. Thank you for bringing awareness to the importance of rest!

I was a collegiate swimmer and had morning practice starting in 8th grade. High school id wake up at 4:45am for practice that started at 5:30, and in college I’d wake up at 5:30 and have practice at 6. High school by far was the worst. I was ALWAYS exhausted but especially when I’d stay up past 11. College was better because I was actually able to nap but I ended up staying up later. So I was still exhausted. I know my body couldn’t recover like it was supposed to and I was sick ALL THE TIME. That was by far the biggest difference I noticed when I stopped. Plus studying was always so much harder in high school..... and I thought of pulling an all night in college seemed impossible because my brain would stop working.... so I know it effected my learning so much. I wish coaches and educators realized how the lack of sleep effected us
