@@Zizalaonfire I know this is old AF but: as someone who went to school for biology / environmental science (ended up switching my major in the last year, rip), we are taught that psychology is not a science. Neuroscience and psychiatry are, though. Not exactly sure why, but I think it has to do with the fact that definitions and testing of theories is pretty shaky. IE, you can test the chemical release/reactions to certain stimuli (neuroscience), but how do you test a vague, unquantifiable thing such as “happiness” or “sadness”? Not saying whether I agree with that assessment or not, but that’s generally the kind of argument scientists use.

I think people who haven’t done grad school at a Masters/PhD level don’t understand what goes into research and peer reviewed studies and information backed by literature unfortunately so that’s why there’s so much anecdotal info out there. It’s just because they probably weren’t exposed to it and don’t know the magnitude of it so I personally appreciate and relate to your vision of fitness

I think it also cycles back to what you studied in school. I only have bachelors level, for example, but both of my degrees are extremely science based and I helped on some research studies for experience to see if it was something I was interested in. If my degrees hadn’t been so science based I don’t think I would have the understanding I do, but because they were it instilled different values in me when it comes to research and information.

I totally agree that we should be exposed to the scientific method in much more detail much, much earlier. I remember my biochemistry undergraduate programme didn't involve much direct analysis of literature and I'm lucky that I was publishing research outside of class so had to learn to be comfortable living amongst scientific journals and assessing their credibility early on. Otherwise I wouldn't have really learnt that until my PhD which is way too late if we want that way of thinking to be the norm. Thank you for watching!!

Re: Gymshark, honestly well said. It's so infuriating in the fitness industry especially that we're being fed and sold this false pretence on nutrition. I've been in situations myself where trainers even at my local gym told me to eat 1,200 calories a day to lose weight (and I'm 5'9" for starters!), and then to shame me if I don't follow that guideline otherwise. There are so many damn factors, and it's nice to hear that you've been following the *science* from the get-go. This is why I love your content and values!
@Alwaysttango
@Alwaysttango 3 жыл бұрын
Not eating is just ridiculous. Want to lose fat? Ok, small decifit, reeeeeally small like way less than 20% maintenance and be more ACTIVE. It's way better to be more active, do cardio, improve breathing and heart rate rather than not eating...Everyone feels better in a more efficient body and worse in a body empty of energy, basic biomechanics. I hate the way fitness/bodybuilding ignores this fact.
