I have a strange philosophical Idea about nihilism. We use Closer all the time. Imagine your walking down a neighborhood, doesn't matter what kind of Neighborhood or where the location is, now you look at a house and your mind instantaneously fills in the blank of what is inside that house. that filling that you really don't know but you assume is their is called Closer, that closer is called meaning.. Your Nihilistic view of your birthday is the fact that your sense of closer has been fucked out of existence.. my thought is add what ever meaning you want for your birthday, don't worry about it, make a big event or small event, treat your self with anybody you find important.. to me every thing that I see starts Nihilistic then that nihilistic empty box I see is my dog, my cat, my Blue ray, anything and I am the one filling that empty box with meaning. Use your imagination. every thing that has meaning comes from with in and out ward... you know what I think your going to be OK BRO! :)

You are completely wrong when you say "you are not special on your birthday." I get it, maybe to you birthdays aren't cool. But birthdays are a reason to celebrate and feel special. I remember celebrating my 19th birthday this year and I was just so genuinely happy. Recently I've been recovering from cancer for the second time in my life, and I honestly wasn't even sure if I would get better soon enough to celebrate another year of life while being cancer free. Well, my wish came true and here I was, so grateful to spend more time on this earth to live another year of life. You shouldn't think of birthdays as "oh no I'm closer to death," rather be grateful that you are spending more time on this earth. You have the ability to accomplish so much more as a result of living longer. That's how I look at it. My birthday meant so much to me and it will continue to mean so much to me, because I honestly thought I was going to die. (On another note, happy birthday!!!!! Hope you have an awesome day).

I love my birthday actually. I'm about to turn 19 and I'm nervous but I'm also happy. If I was dead I wouldn't be able to celebrate or even have a birthday. Each birthday represents a year of learning, mistakes, achievements. Being a person. My birthday represents that there are still a lot of things I haven't done. Things I've never experienced. A life I haven't lived yet. It's scary and exciting and I love that feeling. It might not be special. But it's special to me.

Dan let me tell you. My birthday is on Monday and I'm turning 23. This is the first year I didn't wanna count the calendar, I don't wanna have to deal with my family, I didn't wanna have people sing me happy birthday. I'm so done with it, all I want for my birthday is something that can't be bought. It kills me though, I hate not being excited by my birthday or Christmas. I seriously hate being an adult, I miss being excited to get older, the parties at the Holiday Inn, everyone giving me attention, I miss it so much. But that's adulthood, Dan. We have to deal with it, life isn't easy, we're on our own. So don't think of it as us getting closer to death, think of it as us getting more and more bitter Fuck turning 23.

I don't mind my birthday, but I've kind of stopped celebrating it. My mom doesn't cook, or take me shopping, so I make my own stuff and (if I had money) could go out and buy what I wanted. Actually, when I graduated my grandparents sent me 50 dollars and I wanted to buy my own stuff with it because it was the most money I had gotten in a while. But, my mom basically went around the bush with me numerous times basically saying 'Why should I buy groceries and other things for you when you have your own money?'. I'm currently 19 years old, and I feel like I have to take care of two children. With how my mother and her husband act. It's pathetic, and I hate it. But I'm thankful that I at least have my boyfriend and his family to be a part of during every holiday, and they make me feel more welcome than my own family.

I enjoy birthdays because they're a celebration of getting to live longer. You could die at any moment, although unlikely I could drop dead after reading this. You never know. Therefore it would make sense to celebrate living. It's sort of a benchmark of living long as you have, not celebrating a bench mark closer to death. It's all in how you look at it. I don't worry about being particularly special vs. other people. I know I'm unique obviously. But more so I like birthdays because it's a celebration of living.

Happy birthday, man. I don't really agree all too much on your statement that birthdays aren't special. A birthday represents how long you've been alive from the day you were born. To me it also represents how our species have evolved to the point where our sentience allows for such a joyous occasion. Just think about it, countless years under an evolutionary rollercoaster, and we; Homosapien made it. Sure, we're all gonna kick the bucket at some point, but its not guaranteed it's going to be DURING a birthday. it could happen at any given time under any circumstances. Knowing this, I do not let it consume me. Thank you very much for sharing this video, I hope you'll feel better.

You only have one birthday. The rest are just anniversaries of your birth. They are still not special.
@Flendomo10 жыл бұрын
iamsobanned No, I'm sorry, the anniversaries, as you put it, are a testiment to the day you were born; that I can agree on. But that testiment still goes on to what I said in my post, a reminder that our species have come so far. And that, to me; is what is essentially special about my birthday.
@iamsobanned10 жыл бұрын
Freddy Fazbear We haven't really come that far. Sure we live a little longer and we have devices that can scratch our balls and make us toast but as a whole this species still makes all the same mistakes we have made since we split off from our common ancestor. Just look at the religious people...
@Flendomo10 жыл бұрын
iamsobanned Alright, point to any other species that is capable of everything we are for me. Can you? A species occupying every continent; capable of inventions allowing us to be high up in the skies; allowing us to develop a space station. to submerge and research in deep water. I am not saying our species is 100% flawless, but that still stands to show that we still have a way to go; but why should that knock down the pride we can take for our current advancements? We shouldn't.

Freddy Fazbear I still don't see how any of that proves birth anniversaries are special and we don't occupy every continent some we only visit.

I look at birthdays and think of it as "Thank you for being born" Though I see where he's coming at. Celebrating every year when you are really just getting closer and closer to death. But looking at it in a positive view you are celebrating your birth. Celebrating the fact that you are on earth because of birth. What's not to celebrate about that? It's something to be very thankful for.
@Pinkkittenpaw10 жыл бұрын
Daniel... you know, i like you and stuff, but... what on earth was that? First you give this incredibly sad self-pitiful speech about why you hate birthdays, and why nobody should feel special because you never could, and then, out of nowhere, you start this weird rant-like self-justification for the things you bought yourself (which, in my opinion is great, but it doesn't make sense if you just said that you don't think birthdays are special). And then you end this thing ranting about people wishing you happy birthday on facebook, when you actually changed the date, because it means that they don't even know you. Has it ever occurred to you that even though people might not remember your birthday (I myself am really bad about remembering dates), they are happy to be reminded by facebook so they can wish you, because somehow they value you enough to want you to have a happy birthday. you know, people don't care about someone, they're not even gonna spend those extra 6 seconds to make that comment on your wall. I have no f*cking idea what you wanted to achieve with this video, but nonetheless, I really wish you a HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

It makes sense to me. But then I suffer from depression too. Buying himself presents is his pick-me-up for the depression he feels about his birthday, a semi distraction of sorts. Anyway, you just got a glimpse into the contradictory nature of a depressed mind.
@Louisyed10 жыл бұрын
As many others have said I really don't get your point here... birthdays aren't important but friends who don't know your birthday aren't really friends but you don't know your own family's birthdays? I don't really enjoy my birthdays because it always reminds me of what's missing and prompts me to take stock of what I have(n't) accomplished. Friends all seem to get spoiled by their partners and/or families or get secret surprise parties or visits from friends etc. Whereas I'm not with anyone and I don't get really any celebration. When I've tried to organise things myself it hasn't worked out so I've just given up. And if you mention it's your birthday people are all "Ooh are you excited? Doing anything special? " to which the answer is just no. Hence I tend to get quite depressed around my birthday. Sorry if this seems stupid. I don't choose to feel this way.

@narutorasbat10 жыл бұрын
Maybe its simply different where I'm from but when we celebrate our birthdays we don't think "Hurrah I'm a year older", we think "Hurrah I lived another year". Life is precious and it can end at any moment for any reason, so we celebrate that we are still alive for as many years as we are, the older the better, maybe that's why I don't think about mortality that way. In your next birthday instead of thinking that you are a year older and closer to death try thinking about how you managed to live through another year of your life in this world, that might make Birthdays special again.

One of the biggest reasons that I find my bday special is that I share it with one of my favorite aunts. We text each other happy birthday and stuff. It's a bonding type of experience for me since she doesn't live within walking or even really driving distance from me without a decently long drive. I think you just need to find something to make it special for it to be special. It would have been pretty awesome to have a day dedicated to me, yaknow? To me every day is just any old day, I envy people who celibrate holidays and birthdays purely for the fact that family and friends come together, cause Ive never experienced it. Happy birthday btw! There is only one thing that rubs me the wrong way about this video, its when you tell the audience that THEY are not special on THEIR birthday. You say that you are not special on your birthday and thats its your opinion. Thats cool, a little too pessimistic for my taste but its your view and I can respect that. BUT then you say to the audience that "YOU are not special on your birthday!" Isn't it their opinion whether or not they want to feel special on their birthday? You can be as pessimistic all you want but when you try and put down others with your way of thinking than that's just a dick move.
@Mira_Oso10 жыл бұрын
That's exactly what I was thinking. Total dick move. Like I respect Repz opinion on why he doesn't like his own birthdays, but to tell ppl their birthdays arnt special is just a Dick move. That's basically saying that Anniversaries and things of that nature are not important either. So I'm just curious when he reaches 400,000 subscribers if he's going to celebrate that. (Going by what he's saying) He shouldn't celebrate getting 400k because there's plenty of ppl out their on KZbin who have or have reached 400k subscribers.

KEE89ful2 Subscriber milestones aren't so much a celebration as they are a thank you to the audience for their support, but I understand your disagreement with Repz opinion. Let me sum up this entire video: "I no longer find my birthdays fun and meaningful, so I am going to come on KZbin and make other people feel bad by telling them that their birthday is meaningless and stupid." Yes, in the grand, objective scheme of the universe, we are not special for being born and existing. But here's the thing: People don't want to hear that. People do not want to be told that their celebrating their existence is stupid and superfluous. Please don't come on KZbin and start pouring your negative thoughts to people. So you don't find birthdays that important. Great! But that's not our problem.

fireblok uchiha I usually like his videos and I find his thoughts on certain matters insightful and intriguing. But this video seemed like pessimistic whining. Usually his videos have some sort of argument or point. Here, he is just whining because of the fact that he doesn't get spoiled and lavished with luxurious presents like he used to when he was a child. He's having a bad day, obviously. But I'm sure most of his subscribers don't come to his channel to listen to him bring other people down just because he is having a bad day.

Honestly I don't see the point on birthdays...I mean why does a year really matter? Maybe the day I was really born might matter to my parents and people close to me, since it brings some memories, but just another translation to the sun is not as meaningful to me, as it used to be. We, humans, make all sort of things to become special, but 365 days or 370 days...what's really the difference? If they told us a year had 370 days, then my bday wouldn't be the same, would it matter? No...so I don't really see the point... Of course it's always good when people express that they like you on your bday, or just to do smt different like a party, to have fun and make memories, but to do it just bcs a "year" passed wouldn't be needed if we oh so loved everyone that much. To show "love" for someone, we don't need to wait for a date. When someone who isn't my friend tells me the oh so usual happy birthday (which I also feel like I need to say bcs I don't want to be "rude") I always think: okay!... thank you for wishing for me to have a good day, bcs it passed xx years since my birth, but...what do you really know about me? Growing older...from the way I see it, there's nothing special or unspecial about it...it's just how our life is.

"Special" is a relative term made by people, and made for people. I turned 17 yesterday, and i'll admit this was the first year I actually truly thought deeply about what that number means. Birthdays are to me simply a reminder as to the reason i'm still alive right now: because there's still a few people left in this world who care that I exist, and who want to celebrate the day I was brought into existence. No matter the difference we may see in the day, I still want to say Happy Birthday, dude. I'm glad you exist. :)

I never say happy birthday on facebook anymore ever. You will get a "happy birthday" only if i talk to you on a regular basis.

Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says, "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says, "But doctor...I am Pagliacci.”

Hey I'm a subscriber I was binging on your videos and I just saw your "self realization" video. I wanted you to know that any content you release is fun to watch and you are really interesting! You might not notice it so fast but you are helping people even through only sharing your perspective. To watch your videos makes me feel sense still takes place in people's minds nowadays. And don't be ashamed of the old videos! The past is a necessary part to show your place in the present and that changes were in fact made, so please keep them. Congratulations on the new gifts and thank you for all the awesome content !

The way I see a birthday, is you're not going "you're special because you're born" you're saying "it's special that you're born because if that never happened you wouldn't be here!"

To quote from a cracked article,each birthday is like a new level unlocked where you get cool new stuff and superpowers when you're young and as you get older,you might still get stuff but it's more like each new level is the same and it doesn't feel like an achievement is being unlocked anymore

Happy birthday MrRepzion. From my perspective, you have an easy birthday to remember. Honestly, I feel the same way about birthdays as you do except I came to that conclusion at a much, much younger age. This is such a great video. Kudos.

Yeah I totally agree with you Daniel. Once I hit about 16, I realized birthday was getting less and less special and that I was getting less presents. It was then when I just started buying my own presents on my birthday :P

For someone that doesn't think birthdays are special, you sure do want your friends to know your birthday :/
@NavnikBHSilver10 жыл бұрын
Rarity of an event does not determine how special something is. A sunrise can be special and last time I checked it happens every day. If you don't celebrate you birthday, good for you, me neither, but that does not mean that it suddenly is a meaningless event. In truth, anyone who is around 16 years of age, ought to already understand that it is not about the aging, nor the presents; it's about celebrating an anniversary of your existence. The very fact that someone would come to your birthday implies to a degree, that they appreciate your existence and presence among them. I mean, if you'd do it just cause "you are a year older", you could celebrate your birthday every plank time, as relative to another point in time, you just got a year older. There are no special days or dates, you make them special because of what you do. In our cases, that might mean that our birthdays won't be special, doesn't mean they couldn't be.

Honestly I think the only reason I even celebrate my birthday anymore is because it gives me an excuse to have a bunch of friends over and I make a shit ton of food for them. Glad you were able to splurge on yourself a bit. Happy birthday :)

I just have a question then, what is the difference in your opinion to having a calender, on which you write birthdays down and remind yourself that way? Is it just the convinience of facebook or do you have other reasons?

Here are the pros I see about birthdays: You get free gifts and money from your family You can do whatever you want Your family makes you delicious cake(s) And here are the cons: Sometimes you feel like you're getting old When you get older mostly around 16 17 and 18 you get pressured about your future all the darn time Anyway Happy Birthday! Awesome Lego set you got there!

MrRepzion I like how you speak from your heart and mind as my birthday is September 24. I also happen to be born 2 weeks after Spyro, a dragon I use to take for granted during my childhood. Since becoming an atheist at 18 I have questioned a lot of things not only religion but like birthdays and stopped receiving present and realizing my childhood was over. Till this day I can't help being what I use to be, a lonely only child wanting to be happy in the depressing and cruel adult world. Spyro has been with and is from the beginning. I even did some probability and hes 1 in 4,000. From gender, birthday and favorite color. The kid with a huge heart taken down by society and time, the consequence of knowledge of is innocence. I can say I love him more than anything or anyone. He's not called me names, verbally abused, judged me or shoved religion/christianity (Assembly of God) down my throat since fucking birth. A brother I never could have.

I am loving your views on subjects more and more MrRepzion. My birthday was yesterday (Dec. 6th) and my mom seemed to have gotten kind of upset with me the night before because she bought a bunch of stuff to make a b-day cake for my birthday, even though I repeatedly told her that I didn't what a cake from the middle of november all the way up to the day before yesterday. I, too, see my birthday as another day closer to death. The only thing different for me between my b-day and any other day of the year is that my family treats me to dinner at a place of my choosing and I usually get something that is handy or practical for my everyday use. I know other people may think that it's wrong to view birthdays as a day that isn't special and that it's just another day designating an older age but I, like you, think that it's just that.

Your birthday is the day I think you should celebrate yourself, your existance. I feel I'm quite realistic too, but I like having one day, just one day to feel special and people I love making me feel special. I'm sorry you don't know what that feels like.. Its amazing to celebrate your existance.
