This was this children's show (might have been sesame street or something similar) where one of the cast members was an amputee. She did nothing to draw attention to her missing arm nor was it ever mentioned but a ton of parents got pissed and wanted her removed because she was "scaring the children." How stupid is that? Around the same time the PBS show Arthur or Buster's travels or something showed him visiting a gay couple. It was removed from the air for "inappropriateness" yeah okay. In the episode they hang out with this couple, have dinner and talk about the history in the town they live. And one need not look any farther then the removal of Derpy Hooves's voice, name, and eye position in My Little Pony, to see that people are just as prejudiced against anyone different now as they ever were.

Rules should serve to help protect others against harm and wrongdoing. Rules against theft and murder, I can get behind, because these help secure the safety of others. But when you have rules like "Don't be gay", with no real practical benefit or purpose behind them aside from "Because God says so", then these rules serve only one purpose: to control. People should pursue and take part in a religion that they think is the right answer and works best for their lives. But, at the end of the day, don't be afraid to question your religion. The concepts and rules you come across, don't be afraid to disagree with them. It's important to be honest and realistic. What's it going to take you ask, and I hate to say this, but what it's going to take for those 1 million moms to understand that a better society is an educated society especially when it comes to same-sex relationships, is perhaps one of their children is gay and because of the lack of education something bad happens to them. Such as bullying or worse. They need to realize that this world is changing and there's nothing that they can do about it. Therefore, unless they plan on raising their children in a cave the best ammunition for their children to live in a society where this change is inevitable is through education. After watching this video I went to the Disney app to watch that episode of Good Luck Charlie and I agree with you, their portrayal of same-sex marriage was brilliant.

I'm a Christian and a very strong advocate of gay rights. I also think it is ok to be an atheist as long as you don't act prejudiced against Christianity without even being educated about it. I once saw this quote that said "stop using Jesus as an excuse to be a bigoted idiot" and I got so mad because this person obviously knew nothing about my religion. Jesus never mentioned homosexuality, NOT EVEN ONCE. He was a very open minded man for his time, that's why a lot of people hated him. He promoted the acceptance of everyone and he didn't judge people (one of his most known followers was a prostitute). He also never mentioned anything about sexuality whatsoever. However, the Bible is divided in many parts and some of them have nothing to do with Jesus Christ, some of these being extremely ridiculous. I believe Paul was the one who mentioned homosexuality as an abomination (I'm not sure though) but to be honest he was an idiot and he said a whole lot of non-sense. So no, Jesus doesn't hate gays and he would be more than ok with them because he condones love. Moreover, being prejudiced against someone's religion is exactly the same as being a bigoted idiot, so don't do to others what you don't like being done to you.

Because if you read the Bible you would actually know he contradicted a lot of the old values, not only the homosexual prejudice. He came to debunk a whole set of values that were rooted in that society as sacred (including the things you said - jesus Christ was clearly against the old testament) And just because I'm a Christian it doesn't mean I believe everything the Bible says. I actually only believe in the New Testament (the one that relates to Jesus). He contradicted all that. He stopped many people from being stoned to death! If you were educated about Christianity you would know that. The bible has a quote that says women ARE equal to men. Moreover, Jesus Christ is against death penalty. Yes, the Bible contradicts itself at times specially when you compare the New and the Old Testament because one of them was written by so called prophets and the other was written by the people who followed Jesus. I personally believe some of those texts from the old testament are not reliable or to be taken seriously. Read the New Testament and you'll see how none of those things you mentioned are condoned by Jesus, on the contrary, he came to abolish those things.. You say you are educated but you're not. You only read a few texts about the negative aspect of the whole religion and you already think you know everything. CHRISTianity is centered on Christ, not on a bunch of prophets who came first thousand of years ago so if you hate Christ, you must be a terrible person because he talked about nothing but mutual respect and love.

Not immediately relevant to your points, but the Oreo guys are Nabisco, I believe. I don't know if anyone's pointed it out yet. Heh. I tend to use Daleks and Cybermen (from _Doctor Who_) as analogs for people like this, the "One Million Moms" people you speak of. The former for hating anything that doesn't line up with their holy book and/or beliefs (analogous to Daleks' extreme xenophobia and dogmatic assertions of superiority); the latter for when they decide to try and convert you to their cause. In the latter case, they're like Cybermen with even more logical problems than they already had. I used to be theist, until I took up critical reasoning and a "Comparative Worldviews" course and realized just how illogical the view I had was. Ironically, said course (and the college I'm currently in, for that matter) had a Christian bias, so that was *really* shooting themselves in the foot. I've embraced logic since, and became an agnostic deist or standard atheist, depending on how "exist" is defined. These people seriously have a doublethink going on in many areas. There are just... so many places and things (read: objects) that contradict their/their book's ideologies that they should logically have no business even using/being present at, but do so anyway. It's really weird.

My father says my brother who is 13 can't watch a show because it has gay characters in it. My brother has aspergers and this confused him greatly. My brother asked him why it was wrong. My 'sperm donor' as I prefer to call him, responded with "because god said so." I am so happy you talked about the Good Luck Charlie clip! People are completely outraged over nothing. It was a short clip, so even if they aren't a supporter of gay marriage there was no reason to get so worked up over it. It wasn't the entire episode talking about it, just one brief mention and showing of it. I am so proud of Disney for doing this anyways, they have really screwed up in the pass with making fun of eating disorders TWICE but this, this right here has earned Disney some of my respect back. Children should at least be aware of what a gay couple is and know they aren't scary or bad people. They just have a different look on love than you have. Anyone getting upset over Good Luck Charlie and boycotting it is ignorant and gets too sensitive over little things.

I totally get whenever he talks about Christians overprotecting their children. I come from a Christian family and was home schooled until about 5th grade, and even through middle school I went to a charter school that mostly consisted of Christian families. I didn't even know same-sex couples were even possible until my sister started bringing her gay friends home, and I was already about 13 by then. I don't understand why my parents didn't talk to me about it, it's not like I was never going to find out. My parents also became extremely judgmental not only towards my sisters gay friends, but my gay friends as well. I've had to tell them that treating people like absolute crap just because of their sexuality is nowhere near Christian-like. Christians are supposed to be forgiving and understanding, NOT ignorant and judgmental, no matter what the other persons life choices may be, because it's their life, not ours.

There is no point in them fighting against same-sex marriage. If you take a look at history this controversy is playing out much like interracial marriage. So when this generation's (90s to early 2000s) grand children are alive they'll look back at the fight for gay marriage in the same light as we look at the fight for interracial marriage.

This move by Disney is not about LGBT rights, or morals, or the decay of our society, or good or bad, this is about market research, about 10 years from now, about economics and demographics, about captive audiences, this is about who is going to have the buying power, not the parents but your pre-adolescent kids. Be smart, do not praise them for being open and inclusive, they don't give a damn about it, check all their other shows, do not hate them for being sinful or decadent, just educate your kids and let them know that Disney ´s shows and movies, no matter how benign and innocent they look, their only motivation is make money, your money parents, and eventually, your kids money, in an endless cycle since we were kids and or parents did not realize this.
