I have to say I fully agree with your views on brakes. It really irks me that factory rifles and many customs are fitted with brakes on 223, 6.5 Creeds and 308s. I see no need but get given the explanation that they need to see their fall of shot. I say get a better performing stock. As for fitting brakes to barrels below LV profiles I go another route. I make the rough brake to have a thread to a size where the barrel has minimal material removed to prevent any belling of the bore as you explained in the video. The internal thread of the brake is relieved and an internal shoulder cut. The muzzle crown outer diameter is cut square to mate up with the brakes internal shoulder and the barrel thread cut tight as you do with the brake fitted NEVER TO BE REMOVED. Time the ports if not a radial, profile and taper the brake and finish the brakes bore to no more than 20 thou over caliber size. The finished product is a larger than barrel diameter brake with a rather ghastly Howitzer look compared to your flush finished style but the demand for brakes and the cool factor in the gun industry of late has led me to this.

Seems like this is only a problem when your worried about making the brake flush with the barrel diameter. Otherwise you can make the threads the maximum size the barrel will allow....
@quarterminutemagnums Жыл бұрын
Dear Sir - true, but you must still begin with a large enough muzzle to avoid the Trombone effect. This varies depending on the bore/caliber internal hole diameter. Thanks...............

Breaks ate great! Idk what your talking about. Even w smaller 308 rounds I still run muzzle breaks. I shoot so accurately cuz I kno there is gona be little to no recoil. I can shoot n watch my impacts . Why deal with anything? When technology allows us to not have to. No Brainer to me!

If someone is putting a break on a rifle for the sole purpose of recoil reduction, then they have too much gun. They'll be much better off getting something they can actually handle.

I shoot a 300RUM (for 18 years) stock Remington 700 bdl (sporter contour). Before a T3 terminator, 8 shots and my shoulder was done, complete loss of sight plane, terrible muzzle jump. Yes, it looks like complete shit, and the crown is thin. But trust me, I have watched my bullet hit 11 animals this year from 80 to 300 yards. Zero recoil, zero loss of sight plane, zero muzzle jump. Shoots 1” all day with factory 180 sciroccos. I could care less that it looks stupid. It’s a killing machine, not your wife’s purse.

Just subscribed, great video.... I hope you can help with some questions..... I have a Nosler M48 Liberty in 28 Nosler with a 0.64 inch muzzle diameter. What thread pitch do you recommend and what style of brake, radial or baffle? I know you might say it doesn't need one but I can't shoot the gun without having the scope bite me and trying to shoot tighter groups. Rifle is strictly a hunting gun for moose and elk....Thanks!
@quarterminutemagnums Жыл бұрын
Dear Sir - in the interest of retaining whatever level of accuracy you already have, I would never thread a 0.64" barrel muzzle; very thin to start. Thanks.
