I just injected my shot right before you posted this video. I feel you !!! I'm good with needles I have tattoos and I'm going into the medical field but even with that, it take me a while to get it in. Before I was so excited and now its becoming a whole day of mental preparation to just inject myself.

Damn I literally am the exact same way and I'm almost 3 years on T this March. I absolutely hate doing it every Monday, I procrastinate till the last minute, have to mentally prepare myself as I am afraid of needles, and I MUST have music to calm me down or the shot won't happen. Although it's gotten easier because I'm now a master at doing it, I feel like each week it gets way harder mentally. I've even thought about switching to Androgel but don't know how well that works/haven't done enough research. Knowing I have to do this for the rest of my life terrifies me...but it's become a part of my routine and it helps me be the awesome man I am today. So even with all the anxiety, knowing that it's worth it is probably what helps me get through the fear. You are not alone brother!

This is literally me. I need music, I sit there and try to pep talk myself into doing it--just hoping that I don't pass out or hit a vein. I've been doing it myself for about 2 months now. While I'm super proud and love not going to the doctor, the other half always has that daunting fear that I'll have to do it all over again in two weeks. Some weeks it's better than others, and I don't know if I'll ever get used to it. But I'm glad you posted this because it helps others to know we're not alone.

yeah dude i'm with you. i'm only 4 months on T and have also been hoping it will just get better with time. so far i'm always super exhausted after a shot from the amount of emotional energy and anxiety that happens before/during my shots. obviously i love the result lmao but it's rough in the moment. i'm sorry you've been struggling with it for so long but know you will do whatever works best for you in the end. hang in there! at the very least it is a comfort to hear that others feel this way too so thanks for sharing

My boyfriend will be doing his first self injection today after going to the doctor 4 times previously, and he’s very anxious and I’m going to show him this video for encouragement. Even after a long of time getting T shots you can still be nervous and anxious and that’s okay because you just have to persevere. Thank you so much for this video, sending positive energy your way 💕

You're amazing. I know you said you're not looking for advice but if you read what Bowlofcole said below, there's a key in the last sentence. "Every Thursday I dread thinking about sticking that needle in." I've had to do some pretty unpleasant things to myself in my life, and something I've learned not to do along the way, is not to over-think things. It's a choice between sitting and thinking about how much I don't want to do something and making myself more anxious, or just doing it with very little thought behind the action. For me, just doing it has been easier. Good luck to you Ryan. Oh yeah, you look great.

you're definitely not alone, i'm only one month on T and i've been having a health counselor at my college do them for me because i don't think i can physically do it to myself, at least not for a long time. she's asked multiple times about teaching me how to do it but i just don't think i can, as i've always had a really big fear of needles (flu shots, vaccines, and drawing blood are all things i used to cry about when i was a kid).

I struggle making myself do my T shot too. I'm not scared of the needle or anything because it's super small and thin since I do an SQ shot once a week. I think it has more to do with the fact that I've gotten the masculine appearance I want and now I'm reliant on this med to stay that way because my body will revert back to being feminine without it and the weekly shot sort of reminds me that my body isn't just naturally masculine and I have to suppress the feminine aspects of my body with this med for the rest of my life. I cannot do an intramuscular (IM) shot on my own though. That needle is a lot scarier and my moods fluctuated way too much with the larger IM biweekly dose that I had started with a little over a year ago. Props to you Ryan for being able to inject IM at all.

Hayden McDermott I agree I definitely think it was a lot easier to take the shot in the beginning because you’re excited about finally starting T and you can actually see the results coming from it but after a while it becomes more difficult because the changes aren’t as apparent and it just becomes a weekly dose of pain

Thanks a lot you reminded me that I had to take the shot today 😅. I have to watch videos to do it and it takes different amount of times to get it done dependent on my mood..so I feel you. That makes perfect sense. We take the shot to alleviate our dysphoria but in a way it actually can enhance it also. I never let my mind wonder that far but it is a hard to thing to think about it. If we stop our shots we will regress back to the way we were...and I HATED myself pre T. It helps become who want but know we have to depend on it to maintain. I always kind of wonder if I am truly happy or is the testosterone giving me a false sense of self worth....i completely understand where you are coming from dude

I feel similarly I’ve been on T about 7 months. I don’t really struggle with putting the needle in and etc but my main thing is it gets so tiresome knowing I’m obligated to take it to maintain appearance as well. It makes me mad because although I’m thankful for the journey and it’s exciting at times it feels like it would much easier just being cis having to do this essentially for the rest of my life makes me really tired and exasperated at times. You aren’t alone at all
@simsfan30
@simsfan30 7 жыл бұрын
When I first started T, it was a lot more easier to do my shot because of the excitement that I was finally on T. But soon after a couple months when the changes get slower, it’s harder to maintain the same excitement and it’s just a lot more difficult to forcefully give yourself pain when you don’t feel the positive effects of it directly even though it’s still helping. Sometimes my anxiety over my shot is so bad I miss a week and then I regret it the whole week and my hormone levels become even more uneven and it’s just a lot of negative feelings all combined. I’m glad someone else is having this issue I thought I was the only one who was too anxious to take my T shot even a year after I first started.

Ever since switching to subcutaneous, my anxiety has lessened significantly. I still put it off as much as possible, but the needle of a 25g 5/8 inch is so much smaller than the IM I used to do. It's literally night and day for me when I compare the two. I suggest subq Ryan. My dosage is the same, my routine is the same, but it takes me around 10 minutes (or less) as opposed to the half hour and plus before. I'm really glad my doctor switched me.

I completely relate. I'm a little over a month and a half on t and every time I have to do my shot I panic. I worry about it the whole day and then I end up doing it sorta late at night. And I do subq. Which is the "easy" way. It's not that painful usually but everyone told me "don't worry you'll get used to it". But that hasn't happened yet. Every time it's gotten worse and worse. I have my 8th shot on Friday and I'm already worrying about it.

Ah, don't worry I hate doing mine loads now, it's like a very tiring thing I have to do, and I worry a lot when it comes to injecting it into my skin especially avoiding any bad situations so I try so hard to be very careful and I just need to give myself that motivation to say "ok you got this, you can do this! This is for making you truly who you are, you deserve this after so long." And I don't really hate needles I just dislike having to have it be injected into my skin, worrying about that the shot didn't go right, and I've only been a year on it but none the less, it's the only way to be who I truly am even it means doing T for the rest of my life.

I'm a male on TRT (my levels were low) and after 5 years I still dislike my shots, but I have found alternatives that help tremendously (such as using insulin needles in the shoulder or subcutaneously into the stomach). Also, If you care to look into it, every 2 weeks in between your shots is far too long since you are using testosterone cypionate. You should be administering it once per week are the bare minimum. Now, the better alternative for you would be switching to test undecanoate, which you'd need to inject even less often than you do test cypionate (can go upwards of 4 weeks- same shots as before, just different ester which makes the hormone release slower in your body).
@DeygudBoyes

Also, what gauge needle are you using? You can use a 25g or higher despite what you may have been told (23g is commonly touted despite being unnecessarily large). I use a 25g bare minimum, and often a 29g insulin needle as mentioned above.

I used to feel this way, I started 2 years ago with the needles but experienced a feeling I never want to feel again, so I switched to patches, those without insurance? Are $1,025.50 per box and I had to get 2 of them because my prescription called for 2 a day and ended up costing me $150 every month, so then I just stopped doing those and went back to needles, and at first I was just like you needed music and having to sing really loud in order to distract myself but now I have mentally installed that feeling in my head of what my shot feels like you have to do your twice a month? Imagine 4x a month. So I know exactly how you feel because I’ve been there and sometimes I admit I still get sweaty and nervous because not too long I believe I hit a vein causing a lot of blood to run down my leg it wasn’t painful but it was scary as ever but now I’m more cautious and I can deal with it. I don’t think anyone will ever get over that feeling because like you said we have to do this for the rest our lives and one wrong injection can be pretty ugly. But I commend you for putting this out there but you’re not alone💪🏽🙏🏽

Just ask your doctor if you can inject subcutaneously instead of intramuscularly. (Though, most doctors might still say no, it's worth asking!) You just switch the size of the needle to the size used for subcutaneous and then there are slightly different places you can inject.

Hi Ryan excuse me if it's a stupid question, but have you talked to your doctor about using gel? its an everyday routine but I think it could be an option for those who hates needles or are tired of them. I admire you a lot, thank you for being an exceptional human

I trained my boyfriend to give me the shot, but I did fear if it ended I would have to be brave to do it on my own and sadly I failed my attempt 2 days ago and I was bummed so I completely understand. so for now I'm taking the pleasure of having someone else to do it lol

Subcutaneous injection requires a much smaller needle, so you can switch and maybe that will help?

I’m not trans but when I go to the doctor for a regular checkup and they have to draw blood, I start panicking and crying like crazy. I can’t imagine the pain of that whole needle going in my thigh, omggg I’m panicking just thinking about that lol. I feel so bad for you

Try 200ml of test and deca every week. Wowzers!! Lol I got over the hump by dropping down to 1 inch needles in the thigh, I can even get away with 1/2 if I want to. I'm a man and I use test and deca purely for body building. I have transitioning friends though and I help them out any way I can. Good luck out there :)

I do subcutaneous (subq) shots, which don’t go nearly as deep. It barely hurts and the needle is much smaller (maybe a quarter of an inch)

I couldn't after a year now I put testosterone gel on every morning. I also have the same feelings about needing to do it for the rest of my life. I get you. Testosterone gel is easy but can become a pain in a culo.
