A lot of people hate Ace for what he did, but I think it makes sense. From everything we’ve seen, Ace doesn’t put value in his own life. He struggles to find meaning and the peoples he’s found value in are dying all around him because of him trying to fight Blackbeard. Now his captain is sacrificing himself someone he values more than himself and someone is talking shit about him on his death bed. Ofc he gonna turn around. He quite literally couldn’t let that shit slide

There's something about One Piece and it's character that often feels greater than themselves In the way they act, they talk even the way they live We've seen it countless times again again and again Through characters like Luffy or Roger etc But also through ppl like Belmer, or Hiluluk or Tom, who make decisions that defy reason for something bigger than them Where what defines them, what defines their convictions, their identity is stronger than their own life It's admirable in a way but it can also lead to this Ace's death is a tragedy for someone who spent his ENTIRE LIFE with an existential crisis He didn't know if he even deserved to be born When he asked Garp, he didn't just say Yes you do, which who know maybe it could have changed his perspective a little But that'd also be a pretty naive response because of everything else was bottling up A burning rage aimed at nothing Until he met Whitebeard The man gave him a purpose and a life he can feel proud of He literally wears him on his back along with a hat reminiscing of loved ones like Luffy Ace couldn't bear the disrespect the man who saved his life would face because that's also directly insulting his very core and existence It's a stupid decision But an extremely and emotionally valid one for him to have. In his final moments he felt loved more than ever '' Thank you for Loving me '' There's no words more shattering coming from him Now let's see how Luffy will take the next unfolding events❤️

Aces actions often bring out the same reactions in people. Upon reflection and when you are more removed from the moment, things become more clear. Whats truly beautiful is that SO MANY PEOPLE go through the stages of grief when dealing with Aces death as if he were a real honest to god living human being instead of a fictional character. That just proves the intensity and brilliance of Odas writing. A persons actions in the moment can be always be easily analyzed and criticized after the fact. But we arent him, we werent raised like him, under his life circumstances. Ace did what he did because hes Ace. Living in the moment has been what Luffy has been doing from the very start, we can hardly judge Ace for doing the exact same thing just because it ended poorly. Luffy tried to take down Crocodile and would have died in the desert if not for Robin saving him. Luffy should have known better than try to take down a Warlord so early on, but we dont judge him because after several tries it worked out.

The worst part for me is seeing Whitebeard's reaction to it. He was all ready to die for the sake of his sons. He kept saying that a child can't die before their parent. But then Ace's *blindingly* fierce love for both his dad and his brother got himself killed, and Whitebeard couldn't do anything to stop it.

It's been 15 years for me, and it still hits. This is what you call "Supremely Effective Storytelling" ... mainly because the promise of a series like One Piece in that first half, is a light-hearted, but emotional fantasy ride where you can be struct by a bomb, bullets, blades, or lightning and survive well enough. But when a character does eventually die... it counts much more because you don't expected it and it's when the main character desperately didn't want it to happen. It's genius... that's why this part of the series was a paradise. Zehahahahah!!

What gets me the most is that it wasn't just that Luffy lost his brother, it's that after EVERYTHING he went through to save him he still failed. The recurring theme since Saboady is that Luffy and the rest of the crew are way to weak to head to the New World and he's been getting thrashed without being able to do much since Kuma forced them to separate. But at least Bon Clay is actually alive and became the new queen of level 5.5. So at least he isn't dead.

@Strawhat_Pirates3D2Y4 ай бұрын
As messed up, Ace was for not seeing the bigger picture before retaliation, I can understand why he made that choice even though it doesn't make sense in the grand-scheme of things. Think about it, Ace was adopted and felt that he was so worthless and he should have never existed. Then Whitebeard, the father of all fathers showing Ace a loving embrace on a masculine level so balanced, that even kids with S-class fathers in their lives wouldn't be able to compare. If there ever was a person to throw your life away for, just for the sake of pride, it would be Whitebeard. There is literally no one else that would justify this level of illogical reasoning outside of this one man. Kids who grew up without fathers feel this way about the first fatherly figure that introduces themselves into their lives, and in often instances, the kids' feelings towards their perceived fatherly presence is not reciprocated or is only skin deep. Then, there are circumstances that can separate the kid and their un-biological fatherly figure even though they both feel mutual. It's just incredibly unlikely that a father-less child will ever truly be able to have a sustainable relationship with a would-be fatherly figure, let alone one that lasts a lifetime. Whitebeard not only did this for Ace, he did this for every one of his crew members regardless of whether they needed it or even betrayed him. Whitebeard is a not real, and I don't know how'd I'd respond to someone talking down about him as a character. GOATbeard is an example to live by and defend on principle alone. Whitebeard is definitely a contender for the best written character of all time, no question.

I always cry in this scene, especially when reactors do. Maybe it's cause I have a sibling.

There are actually a lot of people in the fandom that get upset at Ace for turning around, but the way I see it is Luffy's body gave out. That would have happened either way, he pushed himself entirely too hard. Akainu wouldn't have just let them go so the second Luffy's body gave out he would have attacked anyways, and no matter how many ways it would have happened, Ace would have always jumped in front of that attack to protect Luffy. The only reason he was here was because he couldn't let Blackbeard get away after he said he was going to go after Luffy. So yes while it's annoying or upsetting that Ace got baited and turned back, I honestly thing that no matter how it went down, this would have always happened to the brothers. And it sucks!

I'ma take a second...take all the time you need. This is one of the best/worst kept secrets in One Piece, and I'm glad you didn't get spoiled. It is an unfortunate step on this adventure, similar to the Sabaody separation. So many people came together for this war, and like Robin he did indeed deserve to live. We now must deal with the outcome. Hopefully you have a good day.

This entire arc is a 16 year old diving into a cage match with a bunch of seasoned MMA veterans for the sake of saving his bro. He has little chance and yet refuses to yield, keeping his eye on the prize.

The first time I saw this, I went through all the emotions. I wanted Garp to kill Akainu so badly.

Queen, you’ve been BRILLIANT. Having seen this scene many times, I’d think all my tears over this were shed. With you, those same tears came straight back. Thanks for letting me share that moment with you.
