Terrific video, thanks. I served in the Navy 90-94. I have one of those "horror" stories you hear about sometimes (very long story) but I too saw a lot of benefits despite everything. One of which is firmly setting one of my life principals. Don't judge people based on stupid stuff like race, religion, or social status. We are all unique. Everyone has good points and bad points. The only thing that matters is who you are as a person. When I meet someone new I try to assume they're good people. Now if they screw with me then I know what king of person they are and act accordingly.

I am finishing my masters degree next summer and have really wanted to join the Navy as an officer. I’ve heavily weighed all the pros and cons and your videos have been an amazing tool to help me with that and I know it would be worth it for me to join. My girlfriend however, has plans to attend veterinary school in Colorado so we would be separated. She is unwilling to do long distance and is unwilling to go to school somewhere else, say, close to where I would be stationed. We did previously have plans to move to Colorado next summer when she starts her veterinary schooling so I get that me wanting to join the Navy throws a change into our plan but… 1. We have only been together since January and she hasn’t given me any sort of indication that if I stay we can work towards a future where we are married and have kids (which I want) and 2. I don’t like being in a position where essentially we either do exactly what she wants or it’s game over. I feel that I am being forced to choose between her and the military. It’s a rough spot to be in. Any advice would be amazing. Just a shot in the dark.

Its so true what you said about image and I learned that the hard way. It aligns with “dress for the job you want and not the job you have.” I have been passed over for promotion in civilian world bc of dressing casually instead of dressing business casual. Great advice.

Thank you for the honesty in your videos. I’m considering joining the Navy and going through ODS for oceanography. Do you have any idea of what I should expect? And how do promotions work?
@911babygoat
@911babygoat 9 ай бұрын
Did you mean OCS? If so, because I’m not an officer , my knowledge on it is limited. I would imagine it’s similar to the usual basic training, with an emphasis on placing a higher level of expectation and responsibility on your shoulders as a future officer. But as far as promotions as an officer-- it’s more based off of not only the accomplishments that you make regarding your own career; but also your time in service and your leadership skills in regards to the service members you are responsible for. In other words, not only do you need to make great accomplishments, but also the people you are in charge of. Thank you for your support OpachkiBrother

Look, I'm in the Army and what I've noticed about the Navy is enlisted are treated very poorly. At least our leaders sit and eat with us. There's a very defined caste system within the Navy. Shocked the hell outta me as a soldier. I think at least in Intel, since many enlisted come in with degrees and take the paycut to get relevant experience as opposed to going combat arms and doing something completely unrelated to your degree, there's more respect among us.😅 I think the military is a great stepping stone into really good careers. If you do 4 years and dip, you have a lot of benefits you can use right away.

Do you know what the confederate flag REALLY was? If people would learn some history which you can learn at your finger tips you will see what it was.. it was other people and people's perception that brought negativity to that flag

@@911babygoat it was the battle flag of the northern Virginian army in the Civil War.. has nothing to do with hate.. literally a flag they flew during battle.. others turned that flag into hate and racism

@@mikeramey1033The Northern Virginia Army was apart of the confederates, which fought for slavery. People who rep the flag are clearly making it known that they’re on the side of the confederates. Flying that flag should be seen as treason, but I guess it’s a first amendment protected activity. Lets stop acting willfully ignorant. We know why the KKK flew that flag as they terrorized black people. It wasn’t for no history sake.
