When America entered World War 2, the small town that my grandma grew up mostly spoke German, unless they would go to larger towns nearby or at the public schools, despite many of the people living there being 2-4th generation living in the US. We (students in unarmed combat class at NYMA in the '70s) used to have a game of 10 or 12 people standing in a 30' wide circle on mats with a small gas engine and some music playing nearby to make a noise blanket. My father was an MP in the ARMY and after he got home from Nam. He was posted at the front gate of Fort Brag and hippie’s were protesting at the gate. Some men my father thinks were FBI or CIA were talking and one said I would love to get whatever they are passing out. My dad walked up to a very attractive blonde and asked is he could have some of the litterateur she had. She gave him what she had and spread the word that he was interested in the movement. There is a lot of cool stuff buried in those archives. including historical events involving National Security or acts of sabotage, etc. Fact is, if you are well known, or belong to just about any organization, or did something like get arrested, joined the military, applied for a US Visa, or filed a complaint about someone in the govt,, or applied for a govt. job, etc. the odds are there is at the least, an FBI index file naming you. Before Robert Kennedy became Attorney General who and what the FBI investigated was pretty much whatever J. Edgar Hoover felt worthy of being investigated. Additionally hundreds of reports various FBI operatives thought should be investigated also existed. Remember when doing your own FOIA request to include 'and per the Privacy Act' otherwise some stuff you get back may be incomplete. Sometimes redacted stuff is about the name of the snitch who reported on you (or information that may help you identify them), or it may involve a still classified method of collecting data.

#20 You have a fact wrong. Amelia Erheart was trying to fly around the world when she disappeared, not across the Atlantic. She had a man with her who is forgotten because she was already famous and a man had already done what she was trying to do, but no woman had yet and she did all the flying. Your mistake, Infographics, is that she disappeared over the Atlantic. Wrong Ocean. She went missing in the South Pacific. This was during the pre-war period (WW2) and the Navy launched a massive search and rescue operation looking for her. A conspiracy theory was born claiming she had gone missing after the US Gov't asked her to, so they could have a real good look-see at what the Japanese were doing and what kind of build up they had in place already in that area of the Pacific that later became so vital for both sides early on in the war. She was supposedly given a new identity somewhere in the world and was suppose to live out her life in secrecy. Nice tale. But I don't think so. I think if that were true, they would have made a show of finding her and how brilliant we were to find a metaphoric needle in the haystack like that. That would have served the propagandists in the news bureaus much better. And how many famous people wish to forfeit their glory?

I went to Kent State in the late 90s and early 2000s. My daughter goes there now. I can tell you that May 4th is taken very seriously there to this day. As it should be.

The Great Dictator wasn’t silent. It’s a shame this video gets that wrong; the use of voice range to convey its message is a big part of what makes it work. It has one of the best movie speeches in cinema history, and anyone who’s into that sort of thing should watch it.
