I took my 2017 GTI to 262,000 miles, lots of at pace backroading and autobahn type speeding around America. Have lead PCA group runs, chased GT3's around Malibu and up the coast, Colorado, Utah, Tail of the Dragon (2nd gear near redline for an entire week reeling in sports bikes), etc etc etc. Lost the car unfortunately but miss it dearly. It surprised me (and other unsuspecting victims) over and over again with basic suspension modifications and tires. I think the badass JRZ 3-ways had a little something to do with the love too, haha. For track cars, my philosophy is to spend the money on a good, high quality suspension/chassis setup first, then build the car around it. I am more excited to unbox coilovers on delivery than a turbo. And on a car that will see track time, they should cost more too. For a car that will have a lot of track duty, a good set of 3 or 4-way adjustables is the BEST possible major mod, and they will give you the ability to make drastic changes to the balance and feel of the car with relative ease. Even for a car that is on a budget and will spend a lot of it's time on the road and just do some weekend-warrior track time here and there, I would still start with a quality set of 2-ways. It's easy to make the big changes you need for the specific track you are going on, and then set them back up for the 9-5 after. No sacrifice, faster laps, more fun, feel and connection with the car and then back to the perfect feel on the street. It's sad to see all these awesome, $15,000-$30,000 track and street builds on YT, just to find out they have crappy $1,000 coilovers and can't properly utilize the build on the track or street.

Coming back way later to follow up for no real reason. I have so much time on so many MQB GTI's. The biggest differentiating feature they can have is the front "LSD", which is actually a haldex clutch on one of the axles. What it does, is have full control of that axle's ability to turn, and by manipulating one side it can provoke the open diff in the middle as it wishes, up to 100% committed to either side. This feature feels like black magic on corner exits and is indisputably the key to getting the fastest lap times and best snow traction in these cars. If you don't have that you are stuck with XDS, which does the same thing but only has access to the cars ABS to tweak the center diff's torque bias. These systems feel like dog$hit while they are working as we're all well aware. All that being said the best GTI for almost all street driving is one without the "LSD" clutchpack. The reason is steering feel, as while that haldex on the front axle is active it utterly mutes any possible feedback sent your way. It literally instantly quells all torque steer that the car was beginning to demonstrate, to give you some idea of how dramatic that transformation is.

Been to the Ring twice, 16 laps with Ring Freaks, and 11 with Porsche GT4 from RSR. After watching this video I’m thinking the Golf this year!

Properly tuned aftermarket suspension can transform the worst handling cars into racecars, and i'm surprised at how many people prefer to just add more power and bigger brakes. That's not enough.

Traction control doesnt fully go off in VW’s unless you change the code in the ABS module with a device

Who tunes the GTI suspension? Do you also give it an alignment?

Why do you lean on ABS so much? Is it faster this way, or is it better to be on the fine line between ABS being activated and continuous, smooth breaking?

Adding an intake/downpipe/is38+tune+semislicks+betterseats would be just more then enough i guess with 340whp ! Basically a GTI clubsport!

Makes me miss my GTi, might have to get back into one soon and throw some proper handling mods

Me too, every time I get behind the wheel of one I remember how much I liked the car. Everyone I know that didn’t like the car took mine for drive and all of a sudden understood why people love the Gti

@@PapiAndrey yeah, I miss it. I’m probably gonna get back in one soon as much as I like having awd.

Cheap plastic surrounding you in a car with 245 horse power while driving over 200 km/h on Nürburgring must be thrilling experience.
