Very informative! Thank you for the in depth explanation of each aircraft. I travel often and from my local airport (Bangor, ME) depending on where my first stop is, I fly either the CRJ 700 or the EMB 145. Since I cannot stand my feet being cold I will now forever always think about that! 😂 During the summer season, they do fly the Airbus A319 here and I always like flying on that one.

Follow up question should be, what type do you want to fly, or wish you had flown in your career...I understand your decision is more base proximity to home for a better work/life balance though.

I would love to fly an Airbus 350. I walked inside the simulator once. Very ergonomic.
@davidcole333Ай бұрын
As a passenger, I avoid the 145 like the plague. You become a siamese twin with your seatmate if youre on the right side of the aircraft. I also prefer 767 and A330 for long haul travel given the 2-4-2 and 2-3-2 economy cabin. For shorthaul, i prefer Airbus as they have slightly more room at the shoulder than the 737. As an AvGeek, i am gobsmacked with the 777.

As a Canadian, I'm glad you like our airplanes! We don't like them as much as the configs on the CRJs (or worse yet the Dash-8s) are awful for passengers (sorry about no leg warmers 😬). But these are truly the backbone of regional flights. On type ratings, do they ever expire? Or it is a do it once and you're good for life type thing?

Did it take a second to re learn to trim on the 777 after coming from the Bus?
@geekontheflightdeck2 ай бұрын
A bit. My thumb has to remember to move when power or pitch changes were in use. I will say auto trim on the Airbus is fabulous.
@Nickpilot3182 ай бұрын
The 145 is probably my favorite as well, 175 was also nice. Incidentally, we flew the 175 together way back when. I just upgraded on the 737 from the bus. See ya out there.

Did the Embraer 145 have an icing problem?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
Nope. Fantastic anti ice system when actual ice was involved. It would activate unnecessarily but more annoying than anything else.

There is no aircraft attributed fatalities on the 777 either- the two Malaysia flights and the BA and Asiana (fatality was on the ground) so aircraft and airframe has not led to a fatality as well.
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
The Malaysia passengers and crew have to be presumed dead. So yes there are deaths attributed to the 777.
@ikkinwithattitude19 күн бұрын
@@geekontheflightdeckCan the attribution to the 777 be presumed, though? If E145 is (rightly) considered a non-factor in an intentional shoot-down, 777 would be a non-factor in the Malaysia disappearance if speculation about pilot malfeasance turns out to be accurate. I suppose the way I would put it is, the E145 is the only plane that's been flying for 20 years which is certain not to have been a contributing factor to a fatal crash. The 777 may or may not have been a contributing factor in one incident, but it's not currently possible to confirm either way.

Hey you’ve talked about continuous decent approaches a couple times at LHR. Is there a departure equivalent to a CDA at LHR for noise abatement? If yes what does that look like and how would it work? Is it fuel efficient?
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
They do have noise abatement departures requiring fairly quick turns and climbs.
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
The departures don't really affect fuel efficiency unless they keep us low. I'll try to include an explanation in an upcoming video. I just returned from LHR

Hey Darren once again great video, can you elaborate on each of these ratings training licenses, how long did train on each? did you have to pay for training or the airlines covered the training? Sorry for the bunch of questions, am new to aviation.
@geekontheflightdeckАй бұрын
Thank you. Generally it's 60 days from start of ground school until finishing initial operating flights for a type rating. The airline covers all training cost. Two decades ago it was common for the pilot to cover the cost of training.

Hello Darren, Happy Thanksgiving, in Canada ours was in October. Hope you and your family have a feast!!! My wife and I have flown most of the types and I like the 145 as well we have flown the 175/190. I was never a fan of the CRJ series, What are your thoughts about them?
@geekontheflightdeck2 ай бұрын
The CRJ 100/200 were cramped, low windows and under powered. The 700 is great. 900 is a but long for a RJ

Hey Darren. Future video idea for when the time comes- if you could give us a rundown on how filing taxes as an airline pilot works (and if/how it differs from other jobs). For example residency vs base, how international flights work, do you pay taxes in each state you fly to, and just generally how it goes for you. I figure you’re the man to ask!
@geekontheflightdeck2 ай бұрын
I’ve only been based in Texas for the most part. Even when I was Chicago based my taxes were based on where I live.

As a 6’5” passenger, I would take almost ANY airplane BUT the ERJ 145:series. I have heard from other pilots that it is nice to fly. As a pilot, my favorite is my current ride, a G650. Also fly-by-wire. 250 knots to 300 knots to Mach .85 to FL 450. M.88 cruise for 10.5 hours, or slow to M.85 to be able to go 14 hours. 4,000’ cabin at FL 450. She’s a beastie!
@geekontheflightdeck2 ай бұрын
Yeah the 145 isn’t the best if you’re tall. Also at your height fitting in the CRJ lav could be an issue.

@ Haha! Yes, even the forward lav on the newer 737s are cramped for me! It’s a wide-body mid-cabin lav for me!😂

ERJ-170/190 and B777 type ratings under my belt here….id take the Embraer over the 777 anyday of the week! The 777 isn’t an airplane, it’s 1995 Microsoft Windows technology. It’s too big for its own good. Just my humble opinion
