Very true, agree with Libby, having said that, the designs will come back in 10 years time, they will be even more expensive and you will not get the same quality in materials and craftsmanship.

Great video! Totally understand why you’re not reaching for those. The pochette Métis is always SO pretty but the flap I don’t like. Just make 100% sure you’re done because regret/buying them back is an awful feeling. Of all those bags I’d keep the Speedy 35!! Good for overnight/travel and fairly indestructible. Enjoyed the video!

As a vintage bag lover i say go easy on yourself and enjoy your bags. I myself went through the phase of should i sell 25 years ago. I am so glad i didnt, because i later added them back into rotation and they were still age appropriate. Once i saw the current quality and subpar craftsmanship designers offered, i was so grateful i didnt sell my items impulsively. The one thing i did was annually condition the leather and check condition of the bags and they have stood the test of time. Whew, i was wiping my brow. I almost made huge mistake. For the record, i dont follow trends i wear what i love.

All your bags are so pristine! Personally, I keep things if they make me happy whether it’s when I use them, or just seeing them or touching them. If they are giving you a lot of stress in deciding to keep or let go, I’d say let them go. But if they are not stressing you out, I’d say keep them. When I’m in a conflicted situation, I usually set it aside in a box, and in a year if I never even thought about reaching for it, then I let it go. And by that time, it’s important not to negotiate with yourself again whether to really let it go, it will just confuse you even more. Another good way is to ask someone else to deal with that box of items for you, so you don’t have to rekindle memories with the items.

Try putting away the bags which you are currently using a lot and bring these to the front. Assume that these are the only bags you have and see if you are able to incorporate it with your wardrobe. That might give you an idea if these bags really work for you or not :)

Such a smart idea! I don’t really have a place to “put away” my other bags since I don’t use storage and I keep all my bags in my closet but maybe I can rotate these to the front and the other ones to the back! It’ll be a good experiment!

I was thinking the same thing really! Like put away the others you use most rn & bring these out ans use them as if it's your whole collection and see how that goes. We fall in & out if love with styles ans colors vibes etc., I guarantee you'll end uo wanting them all pater on. Honeslty. Unless u need that cash bad & you're positive you'll never miss it, then go ahead ans sell

I think because it’s spring and summer, and most bags on the display here are more Autumn Winter bags. I have thought of pass on my bags to my daughter and future daughter in law too once the kids grow up but seriously we don’t know if they like them or not. It’s sentimental yet I’ll be more proud of my kids will be able to afford and pick their own. We don’t need to keep so many bags that we don’t really use and less loved for the sake of passing on our children. I start to enjoy having less. 😊

Don't sell anything you aren't 100% about it. Seller's regret is real! What I do is take my bags out on a week long "date." If using the bag doesn't bring me joy from that one week, I sell it.

I would keep all those bags! They are all beautiful and their time to shine will eventually come! I recently sold a Gucci Marmont Super Mini in the limited edition Kelly green and I regret it the moment it was sold. The bag was impractical for me since it didn’t fit all my essentials, which is why I sold it. But it was just a beautiful bag that I will not be able to purchase again and I shouldn’t have let go…. So again: keep all of yours 😊

I am pretty much a minimalist, and when I see these bags, all I can say is don’t get rid of any of them. They are beautifully maintained. You will gravitate back, in time, first one, then the other. There is nothing more interesting and thoughtful (in a fashion sense) than having a beautifully curated wardrobe. I am 60, and just love when people say, your bag or coat, or whatever is beautiful. People will ask where did you get it, or when, and the answer is VINTAGE. Their eyes light up and you know it was still a great fashion choice then and now! Enjoy in the best of health.

Let go: LV Pochette Metis (so similar to celine box and august atelier, and you are over the loud monogram and won't go back I think), LV speedy 35 (tumi nylon is just easier to travel with), Gucci (be real, you'll just reach for the chanel woc or lululemon beltbag lol), Hermes Kelly (just personally I think the gray is bland) Wait it out: Beige chanel (investment purposes) Keep: Black chanel (for daughter.. if she'll get into bags a black chanel is a safe starter piece. Let her decide and buy a colored one for herself lol), Speedy BB (it's tbh my fave bag of yours. So special! I also think a classy not-so-mini bag size is the hardest to find), Lady Dior (I just never got the vibe that you absolutely love this bag whenever you talk about it)

I think you have many bags...but not TOO many bags! 😅 What I want to say is: when you own many bags, it is quite normal that you rotate some of them more often than others, but they are still a staple in your collection! And in some years they will make a great comeback and you will be carrying them more often again. Really, these days, when prices, quality issues and availability of certain bags are going crazy, we should be very careful if and what we sell! ❤

Thank you for sharing. I can totally relate to you even though i have less bags than you do (about 13-15 bags including non designer bags). Like you, I am also a user of bags, and I don't like the idea that a portion of my rent/condo fees/whatever costs for my living place is somehow allocated to store unused bags:) People tend to want a bigger place so that they can store things, but what is the point of getting a big place to store things you never reach for:) So I always go through my bags periodically and try to get rid of those I don't enjoy as much. Right now each of my bag has a sufficient place in my closet and there is still some space available for more bags, but I really enjoy a closet where there is "breathing room" and I still want to get rid of a couple of bags that I fall out of love with. I tend to be overwhelmed by the look of a relatively full closet. I like to have some empty shelves. I think by heart I strive to be a practical minimalist and if i have too much stuff I feel burdened and heavy. To me i have to say letting go of bags that cost a lot to buy at the first place is tough, because subconsciously I would blame myself for wasting money or for "not having a good taste in fashion" so I tried to find excuses to keep them. However, over time, as I grow older, I tend to make peace with myself, telling myself that it is okay that you fall out of love with things over time and you can let them go and learn from the experience about what really matters to you.

I totally understand where you are coming from with saving a bag for your daughter - mine just turned 14 and she isnt quite there yet but I think a vintage piece to pass down would be amazing. The quality is probably better on your vintage find. The beige I think is the one to let go of.

I have never had luxury bags, but I have had rare bags from other brands that I am into. I have found as a minimalist, that it is pointless to keep a bag just because it’s rare if I’m not using it. The whole purpose of having it is to use and enjoy, and if that is not happening, it completely defeats the purpose of owning it. So I have found it quite freeing to let it go and see someone else actually use it. Also, I have the mindset of yes it’s rare, and I may never find another one, but if I’m not using it and don’t really plan on using it, why do I care if I ever find another one?
@hellocatwalkcity

Absolutely agree. Letting go is such a freeing exercise… WHEN it’s done well. 😅 I don’t want to let go when I’m unsure because I know I can be a bit extreme with my decluttering.

I am someone who rarely returns items and has never resold a bag, so you kinda know where I am coming from. I look at your collection here and think it is such a nice, diverse collection that supplies a variety of situations. These bags may not fit your lifestyle and wardrobe as much at the moment, but they probably will again. You will not always be that “busy mom” doing mom things. If there is a bag you really want, I guess you could pick one to sell, in order to make room for something else. I recently purchased the Chanel medium flap in beige clare with SHW. I am enjoying wearing it with whites and off whites in casual styles of pants and tops. The SHW makes it more casual, I think. I will NEVER sell it. I like your Lady Dior. Blush is such a versatile color. If it were me, I would keep all of them. 😁

I've been doing the same practices and have gotten my collection down to just 6 bags, all staples from Loewe and Longchamp for when I don't wanna wear fancy bags at all. I feel the key to not having seller remorse is to be very honest with yourself. Some bags you'd still wanna keep in your archive and that's OKAY (I have a coach 1947 piece I'm no longer using but admire its quality and decided to keep it). One method I found working that might work for you is to keep the bags that you want to let go, to be out of your sight (store it in different place in the house) and just gravitate toward the ones you would wanna keep. Once in awhile if you feel you're missing something, go find that pile and 'shop' from your to-let-go list. The ones you feel indifferent and have no desire of using/keeping after certain period of time, is safe to let go

8:51 Thinking of holding on to these for your daughter is not a silly reason! My late grandmother was born in 1912 and always had impeccable taste in clothing. She wasn’t rich but always invested in high quality pieces and kept them in good condition. I was the youngest grandchild and she passed when I was a young woman. I can’t tell you how often as a grown woman that I wish I had more of her beautiful things. All these bags are so classic, beautiful and in such great shape. Haha. All of these bags are GORGEOUS 😍 I would say hold on to these for some more time. Force yourself to use the bag - even if it’s more than half empty - because that will tell you how much you enjoy using the bag on a day out and if it works for your lifestyle “right now”. If you MUST declutter, I think you’re ready to part ways with the beige classic flap. I agree with you that it looks a bit dated. It’s the color combination, to be honest. However, if you want to try using it more, try wearing it in summer with say beige linen shorts and a plain white top, or black drawstring pants with a beige top. I think it CAN work. And then when you’re in your 70s and 80s, you might love this bag!!! As for the Pochette Métis, if you think the bag is super functional - keep it. You might reach for it in a couple years when the quiet luxury trend has passed and everyone is wearing logos all the time! However, the LV pochette Métis is the only bag here that I don’t think is very “special”. Yes it’s a nice bag, it’s functional and it looks good…but it’s not anything special. All the other bags here look special and like they’re “keepers”

Plus with all the price increases I feel you would regret letting either of them go. And for the Kelly, if the color doesn't work let it go maybe that would make room for another Kelly later that you would love. Lately I have been selling my bags that I don't wear anymore. There is more than one reason to it. 1. I want to declutter. 2. I don't like keeping things I am not using. 3. I don't gravitate toward monogram anymore either, so I have sold almost every bag I had with monograms. 4. My bank now gives me 4.15% APY on my savings account, so every $10k is $415 a year I could be making out of thin air. And considering I've bought most of my bags in 2018-2020, my used bags now cost pretty much as much as I have paid for them at the boutique, simply due to price increases. So I have been able to get most of my money back, and essentially I wore those bags for years for free. The way I look at bags in general - I don't have sentimental attachments to them, and there will always be more bags I can buy in the future. So why let my money sit in the closet and collect dust while it can make money sitting in my savings account. Unless of course they are from Hermes - those will have netter return than my lousy 4.15% APY, lol. That's just my approach.

My first boutique purchase was a Speedy 25 in Damier Azur. I wore it a ton when I first got it. I didn’t wear it for a while but it’s been my favorite bag this spring. The logo bags will flit in and out of style. I’ll wear them when I feel like it. I think several of your bags seem more fall and winter. If you still aren’t wearing them when the summer is over, it might be time to let them go. I would not get rid of the Kelly or classic flaps as those will only go up in price if you want to replace them.

Great video. I do understand wanting to hang on to bags to pass down to our daughters. I’m not sure how old your daughter is, but I can see a young girl really enjoying having a cute, small Gucci bag as her first designer bag. My daughter was about 15 or 16 when I purchased a Chloe bag for her. She was so excited and really used and enjoyed the bag. It’s also a good test as to how a young person is responsible and takes care of a designer bag. If it was me, I would still hold on to the Dior and Chanel bags. When my daughter turned 21 and 25 as part of her birthday gift I did gift her with 2 of my bags. It is fun to see how a bag is incorporated into some one else’s life. My daughter styles things differently then I do, and I love seeing that she appreciates the history of the bags I have given her.

Love your videos! Thank you for sharing ❤ When I’m really on the fence about getting rid of things (especially things I used to really enjoy) I keep them for a year as a kind of consideration period. This usually helps me determine do I actually no longer enjoy it, or am I just not gravitating toward it right now (maybe it doesn’t feel like this season, maybe I’m over the color for now but will love it again in a few months, sometimes I’m really over small bags then will switch and be really over big bags for a while). When I’m considering getting rid of something I usually pack it very nicely and put it out of sight so I can have fun “shopping my closet” when I want to change things up and get something new. I don’t like leaving it in sight because it makes me feel obligated to wear it even when I don’t super want to, and that sours my feelings about the item. One thing to consider about saving something for your daughter is how you would feel if she didn’t want the bag, would this cause hard feelings? I love my mom and she once gifted me a handbag, which was such a sweet gesture, but my style is very different from my mom’s and I never used it. I found myself keeping it because I was afraid she’d be sad if I didn’t, even stressing about what I would say if she asked about it. (Gifts are not my love language, but they are my mom’s so we find ourselves in this loop from time to time).
@hellocatwalkcity
@hellocatwalkcity Жыл бұрын
Aww yes that’s tough when our moms gift us something that’s not our style. It has happened to me before as well, but I never keep out of obligation and my mom seems to understand that. Sometimes if I tell her it’s not working for me, she’ll take it back and use it herself. 😂 As for my daughter, I wouldn’t mind if she didn’t want any of my bags. I’m just mildly worried she WILL want the ones I already let go of. But that’s silly right?

I have that second lv Matisse bag and I absolutely love it and your able to put so much into it wallet, glasses, sunglasses, lipstick nothing gets lost in it, it's very functional. I will say having it is probably more of a spring, fall , winter bag I feel like for me it feels heavier in the summer. From your collection I would say I would probably get rid of the beige Chanel flap bag. The black one is vintage and it's probably harder to find . Black is more classic and can be dressed up or down. I do try and get some function into the bags I get if I see it's harder to use or I can't put more or less than I would like then I do let them go.

I have the D-Joy bag very similar to the Lady Dior and I find it a very annoying bag to carry. I will keep it and use it occasionally. Having said that I think you should keep all of these. Don’t carry your bags thinking “I’m only going to the grocery or to take kids to school” just enjoy them. I try to carry a different bag each day, some of these seem more fall, winter and I think you will reach for them more. So much on social media these days about quite luxury too, so I think you are going through a phase just like we all do.

It sounds like you should wait to let any of these go! Agree that it may not be the season for most of these. You’ve also acquired many new ones recently so I think you will come to use these again! I cannot let go of it if someone just wants to buy it for Less than $1000 im just not ready yet. It’s either sell it for a huge loss or just use it till the wheels falls off. For the bags you are currently not using all of them is gorgeous especially that speedy one is just a keeper i would keep that for sure.

I suggest: to go through your closet and see if you have outfits you would wear the Chanel beige bag with, for ex, and maybe a factor is you just don’t own, or wear, outfits that complement the bags… Also think abt Writing out a list of places/times that you remember wearing the bags, like the Kelly, and Perhaps your lifestyle has changed or there’s another Bag you wear to those same type of events or w/ those same outfits… bc you could just as easily fall out of love with those other newer, more contemporary or more “trendy” bags, so I would think that’s not as good a reason to let a bag go, if that was the issue… Often we just need to buy a blouse we feel complements grey, for example, and makes an easy outfit to match the purse with that is in our more current taste & style preferences. Another idea, is to Go on to Instagram/Pinterest and search that color/type of bag to see what outfits and styles of outfits other ppl have worn the same bags w/, which you like & relate with; or just to see how others have styled the same color/type of bag to get ideas of different ways of wearing them… perhaps you just need some style inspiration or some wardrobe refreshments, or are in a diff. phase with clothing, that could easily change in future (e.g. wearing more leisurewear/casual clothes after Covid). I think it’s often that we get in style or fashion ruts, or a bag isn’t as convenient or comfortable… but given that life is constantly evolving and changing, esp as kids get older or our interests change etc… and we just need to step outside our comfort zone sometimes or get creative; but if that’s not the reason you think your not picking up the bag, then it’s better to sell it or trade for a diff color or style we WILL wear more often. If you wear your jumbos a lot, you prob just want to change up the look of what bag you wear, since it’s such a similar design to the smaller sizes… I would think your daughter would be happy getting a couple Chanel bags along with your other awesome ones, but she doesn’t need one of each size & color way 😉 maybe sell the bag and take her on a mother daughter trip, bc that may be more important/memorable in the long run, it usually is… ❤️

Remember you will age, and your style will change as you age. I would recommend holding on to your bags, and don't sell them. You will fall back in love with them. How large is your collection? If space is an issue then I can see the need to sell some, however it's such an adventure to pull out what you've not used in a while, and the excitement of seeing and carrying it again. 😊😊

My collection is much smaller and I only own a total of 5 LV items (3 bags and 2 wallets) but I've been considering selling my monogram speedy 30b. I got it almost a year ago and used it like crazy at first but since then it has literally sat without a second thought. I used it for travel one time and it was a great bag but otherwise I feel like it's much too big for an everyday bag for me. I feel like I'm always carrying around luggage even when I take out the extra piece on the strap and wear it as a shoulder bag. I know the speedy is such an iconic piece but I'm thinking of selling and replacing it with something that is more my style and will get more use. Mine was an impulse buy for sure. I do have a daughter that I will eventually pass bags down to but I just can't decide for sure what to do with my speedy. Thanks so much for the great video!

I think that if we have a lot of bags we rotate them, but we don’t necessarily rotate them equally. Sometimes we don’t even wear our most loved ones the most or every season. That is because we love each bag for a different reason, and the ones we love the most may not be the most useable for whatever reason. If I love a bag, even if I don’t use it often or even hardly at all (I’m thinking of my Chanel black lamb skin jumbo and my light grey large chanel 19 as I say this) I can’t let it go. All bags are not meant to be used all the time. Some are used a lot and some just have their own time because of the material, color, size, etc, and the rest of the time it just makes me happy to have them and admire them. I do sell occasionally, but only after I’ve decided that I just don’t really love them anymore. Not just because Im not using them. If I love them, one day I’ll use them again. I say keep them in plain site and sell only if you don’t like them anymore. As for the Kelly, maybe it’s the wrong co,or family for you. I love greys as I have a cooler wardrobe. Warms tans don’t work for me so I don’t reach for warm co,or son bags. Color makes a difference! Maybe sell the Kelly and trade it in for a color that draws you on.

I’ve never regretted selling a bag.. I would give it another 6 months and then sell if I’m still not reaching for it. But then again I need space and money so depends on your situation. I think it depends on how long you haven't reached out for these bags, for the medium classic flaps it seems like you have a good idea that they just don't work well for your preference/lifestyle. I recently stopped to really think about bags I reach out and bags I don't, and think through what works the best for me, and I ended up selling a good half of my collection, for example, I realized I have a much better experience wearing the Marc Jacobs tote over all my other totes because my other ones are all open totes and things slide off when I put them under the seat on the airplane or if they fall from the car seat. With that in mind I sold my neverfulls and my cabas tote, even though I find those much more beautiful then the Marc Jacobs tote, they are just not convenient for me, I am learning to prioritize what works best for me and that I don't need to own something because I find it beautiful, I can just admire without owning it.

I would sell everything but the Pochette Metis (using it so much when the kids are younger can make it sentimental later when they are older), black speedy and Hermes. Also reduce some of the non luxury bags as well. Then you will be able to see your collection better and evaluate the last 3. It just feels like you are too full even uncomfortably stuffed. You have enough to give to your girls even without these. I look forward to buying exactly what my kids want at just the right time I want. Going through the buying process together and helping them make great decisions seems even better than handing them something. Also, I don't have to hoard everything just in case. I know purging can be stressful churning but you can figure out some guardrails/guidelines that work for you. Put the money away for future you to make a great decision with.

I love the brown bags in general but I despise how many “browns” there are! I never understood the double flap classic Chanel in terms of practicality. The other single flap Chanel’s that you have and you are using frequently are all lovely!!! I’ve never been a fan of the LV monogram, but I love the damier print (I have monogram that my mom passed down to me; and just bought my first damier eben). The speedy 25 is lovely, but I think it is a “workhorse” bag in a delicate form for you….would you consider swapping out the beautiful chain for a more casual one? I did this with my YSL college bag in the summer, and used it WAY more often! Btw I love your channel, I’m new and I’ve stumbled upon it in preparation to go shopping in Paris next week! I’m certain I want to see the AA Mini Monceau, and possibly Chanel mini flaps or WOC- if and only if they pass my husbands QC checks.

Hey love! I’m not sure if you will see this, but you have been on the fence with the Dior for a long time. What I hear that you love about it is the color. What do you think about finding another bag that you love in that color? I don’t hear a lot of joy about any other aspect of the bag…for the majority of the time that you have had it. Just something to consider. As for the rest….keep! They all go well with your overall style (I’m not a big fan of the Kelly personally but that’s just me). Especially love the beige claire Chanel for the style and color….no offense, but as it is a more mature style, we will only use it more and more right? 😘

You're very practical and not a hoarder. When you did your Chanel video, I found some pieces to be repeitive. Is the gold mini square DD's fave? As the beige medium CF and the ABC Lady dior are the least like your aesthetic, I'd be more apt to let those go. You have to keep the Speedy BB, as I commented before, it's a shining star. lol The rarity of that piece makes it a must keep, no matter how little you use it. The others are replaceable.
