@@BagelMediaI think it’s because the Tundra’s grill literally goes into the bumper and therefore looks way too big. For the other new models they split up the grill and the aggressive bumpers, and it looks way cleaner.

@@mottom2657 it wont be THAT much better I dont think. This i-force thing really turns me off. I was really looking forward to the 6th Gen. It looks great. Hybrids are too heavy and eat away cargo capacity/towing weight so its hard to replace my truck with this with the base engine.

I've been looking forward to this 6th gen to replace my old GX, and while I do love the looks, not having the turbo V-6 as an option kills it for me. Toyota/Lexus 4 cylinders are thrashy and crude.

They did a really good job with it but its about what i was expecting. This was absolutely needed and these will sell like hotcakes despite what the 4Runner cultists say. I think the sweet spot for most people will be the TRD Off Road... Thats what i have my eyes on

@@KJVirander There are two camps. One is excited for the updated powertrains and tech. The other camp likes the proven simplicity of the NA V6. Slow development of proven technology has traditionally been the Toyota way. It's a big part of how they've earned their reputation for reliability. Fans seemed a lot more vocal about their concerns with the J250 and Tacoma, but that's largely just because they were announced sooner and this is the same exact situation.

I think the new design looks a lot better than the previous gen. The thing that I'm most happy about is that - unlike on the RAV4 - Toyota's designers didn't make the edges of the top grill droop down to give it a frowny-face design. That alone is a huge win in my book. Plus, I think the new taillights look good and do pull in a horizontal direction. In particular, the housing for the reverse lights perfectly matches the horizontal elements and is in the same line/size as the Toyota handle in the middle. I like it!

The 4Runner has never had a Platinum trim and it wasn't on display at the reveal. (Interesting that they aren't using the Capstone name instead, like in the Tundra and Sequoia). It'll be interesting to see where it and the Crown Insignia fall in the price range.
@mystic7055
@mystic7055 Ай бұрын
A lot of it has to do with pricing, marketing, and positioning. I work at a Toyota dealer and I've seen it all, and it makes sense why they're doing what they're doing. Tundra/Sequoia are the top dogs. They're the largest, most expensive, and greatly capable vehicle Toyota has to offer. Having up to Capstone positions them at the top of their price chain and market. They can compete with the competition that way. Then you get into Tacoma/4RUNNER territory. They're the midsize and decently affordable vehicles - in which are still extremely capable. Then we also have to factor in the Land Cruiser - which has the exact same dimensions as the new 4RUNNER except for the height, sitting 6 inches taller than the 4RUNNER. I'm 90% certain that if Land Cruiser retired, the new 4RUNNER would've had a Capstone grade. However, I highly believe Land Cruiser is essentially the 4RUNNER - but in Capstone grade. It's the more luxurious and equally capable sibling. There's absolutely no difference between the two except the luxury factor. We also have to consider that Tacoma in Limited grade already beats the competition, so there'd be no need for a Platinum nor a Capstone. If you look at pricing for all of these they all slot in before the major perk higb once.

This is all nice and all. I started looking at forerunners about six months ago because of the underhanded antics of jeep and bronco dealerships. I found Toyota was doing the same thing with the TRD premium, and pro. I will go look at them when they hit the dealerships, but I have no illusion that I’m going to be buying one until about maybe late 25 or 26. Or maybe not at all. I want one, but I’m not paying markup and I’m not paying MSRP. I did find out today that Norman Chevrolet here in Houston never did markups during the pandemic or the last four years. I think I’m going to go look at a Colorado this weekend. I’m not a big Chevrolet person and never never have been, but it doesn’t say sucker on my forehead either

The rear taillights give me G87 2-series/M2 vibes. Which, needless to say, is not a good thing. Would have preferred a more square taillight or a more typical horizontal lightbar style. Probably more maintenance sensitive so change your oil. Big question still is price. A 2024 Tacoma I-force TRD off-road Premium package is $53k so add maybe $5k to $8k more for this....maybe. It seems like im alone in this thought but i, at least currently, don't really like the soft windshield to roof line. 4 runners have always had a sharp edge there and when i saw it, it just seemed off. Its probably for aero efficiency but from an asthetics perspective, i'd prefer it to be sharper and less raked because that line adds a lot of low down visual mass that isn't as evened out accross the vehicle in the front.

Personally not a big fan of the third row window curving up towards the roof like the 1st gen. A designer's response to your comments: (I was never a fan of the big bulldozer front-end of the previous gen, kind of a sewer filtration look.) The info screen sticks up. Would prefer it integrated into to the center stack. The side-view comparo points out how much more detailed the new one is - it's too much in some respects, typical Toyota. Yeah, yeah, everyone loves the rear side window - big deal. I'd prefer the simpler lines of the previous gen. The extra creases above the fender flares are pointless detail (typical Toyota). Like you, I also dislike the 45 degree line behind the rear wheels; they should have related that area to the sharp door crease somehow. The taillights are way too complex inside, shapes, lines, colors - too much (typical Toyota). The rear plate visor looks like the cheap plastic it is and the exterior window buttons look they came off a blender. I don't want no "chamfers." Flush and smooth; again, SIMPLER! Toy just ain't ever simple (except, shockingly, the new Prius). That "desert color" would be much cooler as a solid - no metallic flakes at all. There are plenty of bad Toyota interiors. The Supra is flat boring, not sporty, could be in a Corolla, for example. This new 4R interior is very complicated. Again, Toyota just doesn't know when to put the pen down. The design problem with most steering wheels is the hub is not the same shape as the rim. It's usually a big plastic cowpie, and this is no different. Imagine a more metallic, industrial looking hub, more like the drive-mode dial. Overall, you don't seem to value simplicity. Good design is not littering a shape with arbitrary detail. Toyota and most of the Asian makers are big offenders in this respect. Land Rover and Jaguar are probably the cleanest, nicest designs today.
