Depends on the field. PhD’s in engineering can actually make it harder to get jobs because you become over specialized. It’s actually better to stop at a master’s degree in that case if you want to work for someone else. A PhD is basically committing you to be either a researcher or a professor.
@ppiriou3 ай бұрын
Your diploma is not your job security, it is only a good investment to help with your career, for which nobody can ever take away from you! You are young and educated, so you have a lot of potential for the future. My best recommendation is to associate your PhD with a specialization into a very niche market. You should accept lower job offers because your education will easily facilitate any future promotion within the company. All work experience usually lead to many other opportunities. Good luck!

@TheFramedsolutions2 ай бұрын
I think that’s unethical to claim credit on a project you know nothing about. I don’t second it. That said, I think many PhDs since are done immediately after undergraduate, they lack experience only great at the theory as you say. But to speak about myself,I worked internationally for 3 years before embarking on my MSc & then PhD. My advice to most of the pre-phd students I always give them is to first gain at least 2 years of working experience before PhD because that experience however little it could be, it goes a long way at perspective sharpening & deepening your understanding of the theory of your interest of study.

"When life gives you the boot, it's just a push toward something better!" It's normal to loose some jobs, no matter how good you are. Learn and move forward follow what you love doing. "God said pride is a sin, so don't go strutting around like a peacock!" Stop being so proud of the Phd, you have repeated that so many times that it shows how much this is hurting you. Repeating sins is hurting. Go get a job soon, even for a lower pay because every stop in your employment career raises questions for your new employer, you will recover anyway.
@TheFramedsolutions3 ай бұрын
Thanks for your opinion. But what is pride, saying I have a PhD? Or knowing my value? I bet such mindsets are what are killing the employee's plight when it comes to the job search. Downplaying your achievement does not only do you a disservice as a employee but also shows disbelieve in your capabilities as a job seeker/ employee. When you talk about pride, the same bible tells me that a worker deserves their due payment - 1 Timothy 5vs18 (so earn less than I would deserve does not cut it), and as a Christian I will be the head and not the tail, above and not beneath (deuteronomy 28 vs 13). There's nothing about pride here. It is merely the fact that the job sphere has changed. The faster an employee (job seeker) learns this, the faster they (job seeker) can find solutions to the issue.
@tincustefanlucian74953 ай бұрын
@@TheFramedsolutions If I'm your employer I prefer you to be more humble about your achievements and prove your qualities at work. I'm sure that someone without Phd could have done your job. @tincustefanlucian74953 ай бұрын
@@TheFramedsolutions Indeed no employee is imune to layoff. To be employed you must have a degree that proves that you can do the job, that's all. Except of the very high architectural senioral jobs, high political jobs, or to work as a teacher in Universities the Phd don't matter and the normal people that you will encounter will feel strange and inferior to you if you mention it. If you desperately need a job in a tough market then I recommend that you hide that aspect or at least don't mention it until asked. Some may even consider automatically that you are overqualified or so good that you will leave anytime or way to expensive. The effect is generally completely the opposite to what you would expect. If you do your job exemplary, take difficult initiatives and be successful, be nice and helpful with your colleagues, be comunicative and you will make others depend on your help then your employer will value you and at that moment the Pdh will start to matter when they will look for a management or architect senior role.
@TheFramedsolutions3 ай бұрын
@@tincustefanlucian7495 I agree with you. It’s just another paper added to your career story. This paper should be able to speak through the work you do and putting it at the forefront is often regarded as pride but in my case, the jobs I have applied for are jobs that would benefit from my experience as a PhD holder with over 10 years of experience and lots of things that speak for me more than the PhD itself. Thanks for airing out the fact that you are recruiter. But perhaps you as a recruiter, could you offer more insight to a job seeker, not just the typical generic emails? Unless as a recruiter you are in for the money. I have been a career coach for over 8 years but I find most recruiters are more about the bidding for the company they are recruiting for rather than the employees (the people they are set out to recruit). I say this from a place of humility, I have +10 years of work experience culminated with lots of personal development & numerous transferable skills. So, I wouldn’t say, I am inexperienced or I can’t do the job I applied for. My take is the recruiters swing the balance to the side of the employer more than the employee. My father inlaw also got laid off after being a Senior development software engineer with over 15 years of experience; the layoffs were company wide against the Software engineers due to the company hiring people in third world countries instead for cheaper. He also learnt that the CEO later that month was bragging about recently buying a new Lamborghini (he had 2 already) The only real way to be free in this world is to be the business owner.
