Thanks Peter. It is a beautiful watch indeed. We seem to be of the same mind with respect to our horology evolution in that a well-made, manual-wind, easy-to-read, no-date watch is the most satisfying in the end. That simplicity of setting coupled with the tactile experience of winding brings a bit of joy every time I put one on.

I have an awkward nitpick. I can't stand cut numbers lol. Yeah, you visually see the 12 and 6 because we know where they go which is why I don't need to see them cut in half! Personally, it makes me feel like the rest if the bits were after thoughts. Oh, we placed the numbers already. Lets just stamp right through them for the rest of the stuff we forgot. It's a beautiful watch, and I'd be tempted to have the tortured numbers surgically removed.

100% on rotor wobble Pete, my Tut’ grand flieger is a big heavy watch & it still has rotor wobble at times, I love it. Have to be honest though not a fan of the 6 & 12 being cut off, I would prefer no number at all, as you say you know where 12 & 6 are it always looks like a mistake to me. Legibility plus for that dial simple elegant classy that’s a hard combination to beat, IWC nailed it. Cheers

I appreciated that. I have a similar philosophy targeted at more affordable microbrands regarding the movement, although I also realise that servicing even a bog standard movement may take such a chunk of cash that one could consider some microbrands a total loss. That is also not the way that it should be, as it clearly leads to waste. Thankfully I haven't needed to so far. I really like all the blue(d?) metal elements on this dial, but that's probably where my interest stops. My likings are different and that's all fine. You touch upon people owning only one watch in the past. I think that probably applies to most who are not enthusiasts, or perhaps they'd have a daily and a dressy, something like that. That said, I cannot really imagine at the prices required for such Dornblüth or IWC that even in the past those who purchase and own such watches would do so as their only watch, unless perhaps replacing something at quite an advanced stage of life or career. After all, those are very considerable sums for someone not au fait or at least taking a more intensive interest. I have no idea if this theory bears out historically, but it made me wonder.

Ironically Peter I was looking at the IWC Portugieser only yesterday afternoon! I’m actually retiring as of this week after more than 40 years in my family business, my late father started in the 1970’s. As a so called reward, IWC is on my radar. Shocked at the prices, but I guess not surprised, I’m also considering a Rolex Subby, an Omega Seamaster, some other Omegas & Tudor. This is a stunning watch Peter & I do have a Tudor 1926, 41mm with Opaline dial which I love. All the very best to your family & extended families for Christmas & New Year mate!🍻🥂👍🏼

That was really good Pete. My primary concern is legibility, too: if I can't see the darn thing it's irritating. What a piece of design, just 10/10. The 6 and 12 don't unbalance the overall look, it's seamless. The WR on it is a bit stingy but it's probably a paper limitation; I wouldn't take the mickey regarding water with any watch apart from something like e.g an SKX007., horses for courses and all that, but that's just me. Such a beautiful piece, it would have to be a keeper 👍

Love the watch and the IWC brand. Also really like Artem straps, I have a few. But, for me, they don’t belong together. Very nice IWC and it's a big yes from me too. A sterile watch without at least one complication feels like I've been robbed. I must have a date, preferably a day and a date but I cannot be too greedy. I must have a second hand otherwise I am always checking to see if it is running. I see the benefit of a GMT but I don't travel so much that I need that. Don't get me wrong as I am a well seasoned traveller but these days being retired I have no need as I seldom travel. Having a screw down crown allows me to wear and forget especially during summer and finally, it must be an automatic. There are watch repair videos where minute amounts of water have almost destroyed a watch and I don't want to live with this concern.
@nathanwabre6 күн бұрын
Nice piece!! I love IWC, they do things right! You should know that IWC rates their water resistance differently, so a 5ATM or 6ATM IWC with a screw down crown is perfectly fine for swimming and sports activities ;)

No in-house movement and retail price is 33k AUS? That is absurd, it just shows how overpriced most IWC watches are. Also, the cut 6 and 12 look, in my eyes, horrible. There are so many better chronographs for a lot cheaper out there, e.g. Zenith El Primero ones. The Dornblüth is a whole different animal, I would prefer it every day in the week. Small manufacturer, handmade, original,.....
