Im going through this same battle right now, back and forth between 8.38-8.5. Crazy how an 1/8 inch could F with my mind so much. 100% agree with the 149s tho regardless

Doing a 8.5 after trying an 8.38. Feeling like 8.25 with 149 Indy hollow and 52 radial slims is Te goldilocks. Yet adapting is key.

I am in constant state of board madness. Shapes, wheel bases, lengths, widths, heights, wheel sizes, weights whatever else you can think of is playing on this twisted mind in dim Carcosa. Especially when winter is around and skating is less.

I always switch things up. I like 149s but I ride 144 because I can switch between 8.125-8.5. And pretty much I skate 51-53mm classic shape. 99 or 101 formula four doesn't really matter. With different setups sometimes you can learn different tricks.
@heavydrizzle44722 жыл бұрын
I'm in the exact same boat, I've been riding 144s and 8.38 decks for years but really want to try 149s for the extra grind space. I'm trying to wait til I grind down my 144s but I'm starting to get really impatient lol, might have to just splurge. I'm still entirely happy with the 8.38 decks tho it seems to give me the perfect amount of foot hang off my board for scooping tre's and 360 shuvs.

Personnally, i stop the madness (almost). I mean i still got 3 setups of different size of boards and trucks, but now I see it more like a toy to play with. I know that whit my big setup I can roll fast in the park, do basic stuff, but I know that my flip are terrible and hard to do. The best setup is the one you can do what you normally want and not the one that you think that you will be better whit! Too much philosophy here! HAHA!

yeah same here, I am also mad with boards. I have 2 sets of 99A spitfire wheels, powell dragons, mini logo 101, mini logo 90A, oj cruiser wheels, oj nomads ... also 4 different setups with indys, thunder and mini logo trucks and one ace. totally unnecessary, but at least I can claim they are for different purposes: I have a regular street and park setup, a bigger transition setup, a cruiser and a rain setup. but honestly, 1 setup for general skating and 1 for crusing would be enough :D then again because I am so mad I can easily waste one of my setups in the shitty weather we got here currently without worries. also I am not sure whether it helps my consistency long term or prevents it when I am switching setups so often. the thunder and indy setup are pretty stable, the mini logo is a cruiser, so that doesnt matter, but the ace setup is veeeery carvey, the aces turn so good, I can hardly shuvit on them without landing primo every 3rd attempt ... but at the very least adjusting to a different setup with different trucks, wheels and deck length is alot of fun, so theres that.

Since I came back into skating I´ve floated A LOT trying the perfect setup. From 7.75 to 8.5 with 129, 139, 144 and 149 trucks. Mostly is me, not the skate. But the 149 are here for stay. The extra room helps me a LOT with 50/50´s. I also like to see some of the wheel and don´t care with the axe nut showing. I´m still trying to figure out if 8.25, 8,28 and 8.5 are the best for me. But all of them need to be at the 14" wheelbase. 8.5 with big wheelbases are not for me. Currently ont 8.5 14" wheelbase.
@gorryman Жыл бұрын
everyone has their own thing but what works for me is .25 truck over deck such as 8.5 trucks with 8.25 board that way the wheel is flush with the rail for wheels 1 mm over trucks height so with indy 55 mm high truck a 56 mm wheel and with a 52 mm Ace a 53 mm wheel and so on and so forth right now I have an 8.375 with indy stage 4s that come in at 8.625 with 56 conical fulls , loving it (edit) wheelbase is probs the most important thing to keep really consistent
@Fatdill102 жыл бұрын
i skate 8.3 with ace 44 trucks which are for an 8.25 board so my trucks sit a little in on the board
@diplenski Жыл бұрын
I don’t like axle nuts exposed like that. Not necessarily that they poke out past the board, but more that I like wider wheels, radial/maybe radial full that cover the axle nuts at least somewhat. Generally go for trucks a bit narrower than deck (7.65” trucks on 8”/8” truck on 8.25”)with wider wheels with a rounded edge

Does your wheels stick out with the 149 on 8.25 set up? Everyone says 144 on 8.25 but I’m thinking to go straight to 149 on 8.25 like your set up. Share some riding experience park and street with this set up?

I am skating an 8.25” deck with 8.25” width trucks but I was thinking about this exact set-up as well (8.38” deck with 8.5” width trucks) but I am also worried about the extra weight (I am 46 years old haha) so I would need a pair of light trucks then (waiting for the ACE AF1 55 Hollow’s this spring or picking up a pair of Indy 149 Forged Hollow or Titanium)
