some redditors are really insufferable, when people post about how their monitor got burn in, you can be sure there will be a plethora of people just mindlessly comment "no burn in on mine". Then now it gets so bad that some of them already admitted productivity users should not get OLED. A person posted that he got his game minimap burned in, then people just bashed him for playing game, I really don't understand those people.

Agreed! Mine lasted three years and when I purchased, I knew there was a high probability it would end this way at some point. But I looked at it as an investment and work tool knowing that someday I would start to get diminishing returns! But, I am happy that it lasted this long before I started having issues. It's still really useable and if I were to move this to another space where I don't sit directly in front, I wouldn't notice from distance at all 95% of the time, but it happened so I wanted to be honest and transparent about it! I will still get another OLED though hahaha, can not beat the experience!

@@CoZChristopher I get you, I got to try OLED monitors at a computer store. My usage has a lot of static icons so definitely will be a huge problem for me. I was using a 48" LG C2 for about 6 months when I noticed burn in (completely my fault from the wallpaper) but LG replaced the panel under warranty. I have a cutout in my bedroom that is 6' wide by 30' deep so I bought a desktop that fits perfectly in it so my desk is only 30" deep. Being that close the 48" was just the slightest bit to large. I ended up buying the ASUS PG42QU and it's perfect for my desk. If I ever move my setup where I'm not in this cutout I'll definitely go back to a 48". Now I use wallpaper engine and any program I use is in window mode which I've gotten in the habit of moving a little every hour or so. Only thing I use full screen are games or TV/videos.

I love 42". it's the perfect size! honestly I could even go bigger purely for when I play controller based games or movies (as I sit back for those). my eyes like staring at far a lot more too, I almost wish I could fit a 55" on my desk but i'd have to sit further away and 4k is WAAAAY too low for 55". heck even 42" is near the limit of how big you can go with 4k for a monitor

i have a 1440p 240hz oled monitor, i found that leaving the background pitchblack, using autohide desktop icons after inactivity, theres a program you can get for it. also doing a pixel refresh every 8 hours or twice a day i found is the best to avoid burn in. luckily my monitor has an orbit function as well so the pixels will shift once a minute, never noticed it unless you're looking for it by watching the bezels.

C1 48" since 2021, over 10,000 hours so far, and i'm just seeing very slight burn in but I'm running the cleaner tonight. I just looked after watching your video :/ I have the same experience with displays; it's even spoiling me on tablets, there's simply no other display technology right now, my other screen is IPS, and the bleed is too distracting. I figure after this LG OLED gives up the ghost, I'll just get another one, it's certainly proved it's worth. Or check out what Samsung's doing with the QD-OLED TVs. But I'll never get a 'monitor' again; I don't understand why anyone would want a smaller screen; Like you said, just get a big boy/girl's desk - Don't complain about a beautiful big screen because you're sitting behind some little ikea desk with a slide out keyboard. I never understood that little desk thing, ever. I used to use a table as my desk at work at one point. In university, I had a few tresses and a slab of wood. More room, more work, more money :)

I use a 24" depth desk and I have my monitor and I have my LG CX 48" on a simple tv stand three inches away from my desk. The setup works just fine. I like interchanging from 4K" to 3840x1620 Ultrawide. Also, a really good Burn in prevention is using the LGTV Companion App and setting it so that the TV goes black after a few minutes. The app tries to mimic the idle/standby feature of regular desktop monitors. It uses Wifi to connect to the TV.

I bought my CX 48" in Dec 2020. I love it. Exactly when I had the TV for 3 years and used it for 12,000 hours the panel "Burn in". I play NBA 2K and started leaving the screen with the HDR on all the time and at the bottom now you can see the scoreboard burned into the screen. Fortunately I have a warranty at BestBuy and I can repair it but frankly it doesn't bother me yet. The truth is that I will never go back to having a small screen that is less than 48", it is simply great, you just have to have a large desk and calibrate the TV at a height on the wall that is on par with your vision. With the 3000 and 4000 generation of Nvidia you can customize the resolution on the PC to 3840x1600 (I have my resolution at 3840x1800 scaled to 150%) and since it is OLED, the edges stay nice and dark and it looks like an ultrawide monitor. I found this video looking for information because as of this date July 2024 LG still releases updates for this LG CX from more than 4 years ago.

Burn in is one of those things to where it could happen sooner then later or it may not but its a risk you take when buying a OLED. Dont leave static images on the screen for hours and hours at a time and your fine. Some people buy oleds and test burn them to see what happens. Those people then come back on here and say "i got burn in" making oled look bad when most likely they treated their oled badly.

Even so, looking back, I would make the same decision again. Always cool to see how the screens are doing after long term use as know some people worry about that with oled don’t think it’s bad as when it first came out as do prefer the oled and qd-oled tech over lcd or mini led as not keen on seeing the blooming with mini led suppose pro and cons with all the display technology

My IPS has dead pixels after 3 years. I have used enough screens and i can tell at this stage of life everything has a longevity of 3 years so oled or not oled doesn’t matter. For people like me who use screens for longs hours there will be eventually a setback. Days are gone where screens lasted 10years. Funfact my 11 year old lg oldschool flatron tv still has no screen damage 😂

Would you use the Samsung Geo 49" ultrawide monitor?
@CoZChristopher
@CoZChristopher 8 ай бұрын
Hey!! I've gone back and forth about Ultrawides over and over! I've always not liked them due to the vertical real estate. I used a 38" dell at work for like a week when traveling to a diff office location. But I've never personally used one. I didn't like how "skinny" it felt. I think that maybe the larger 57" one would be the one that would be most appetizing to me due to that.

3 feet (90cm)+ desk depth is not very realistic for most of the people.
@CoZChristopher
@CoZChristopher 8 ай бұрын
That’s a fair statement, but the desk statement was focused on the need for this product. Not the space allowed in one’s living space. I mean people wouldn’t buy a 75” TV and put in on a wall 5 feet from them to watch it, so why would they buy a 48” and put it 2ft from them to use as a monitor. It would be the same logic that determines that tv is too big if that desk is too small.

I wish people would stop using the term burn in for OLED as its misleading. Its not Plasma or CRT. Its Organic LED. So it should be called burn out.
@CoZChristopher
@CoZChristopher 8 ай бұрын
The technical term for this product would be “permanent image retention” that is caused by the uneven wearing of organic material within the panel. However, popular opinion refers to it as “burn-in” so as a reviewer you would use the term that people recognize. This term is also now institutionalized and used in legal documentation such as warranty coverages, etc. This is the same phenomena where popular opinion labels everything a “Kleenex” even though “Kleenex” is a brand! This is called neologism and is a common theme in linguistics. Other definitions would be a “coined” term.

burn in is the fate of every oled monitor - it is a feature - it is the discrepancy of degradation between the oled pixels and no matter how much mitigation or screen refreshes you do oleds will get it

I agree to an extent. Image Retention is a constant probability of the OLED technology. But, I dont think it's necessarily inevitable. I have several OLEDs here at home with no signs of Image Retention. My oldest one is a C8 I've owned since launch 2018 and it has no signs. But if abused, for sure, they'll definitely show signs of image retention much easier!
