This video talks about my article in TheBody.com, what I meant when I said I wasn't the "stereotypical type" to have HIV, what scares me the most about having HIV, my animals and some recent skateboarding footage of my boyfriend and myself.

I do not have HIV, but will be tested soon. I stumbled across you videos and at first they scared me, but I have learned SO much by watching these videos. I had no idea that you could lead such a “normal” life and still have relationships like you. I’m so happy for you. I love what you’re doing with your channel. If I was ever in the position of being positive, I would be forever grateful for you. I appreciate this so much even though I’m not going through this. You’re amazing.

Jennifer, First and foremost I want want to say THANK YOU for sharing your journey. I too have HIV, i was given the diagnoses on January 23 2015. At the time my T-cells were only 14 and slowly rose from 14 to 44 to I don't remember then suddenly they jumped from 79 to 192.. My overall health is perfect. I was undetectable after my first 6 months of taking my meds. I also panic if I don't take my meds within a certain time, usually between 3 and 5 in the morning. I have had a great attitude about this situation from the beginning. It's not a death sentence... it's a new part of my life. I someday want to help others cope with the fear of living with HIV just like you. Thank You again, Love and well wishes

I can't believe how hard it is for some people has HIV but thanks to Jennifer for keeping up a positive aura (especially to those has HIV). I'm definitely going to see a doctor to get tested next week (hopefully i ain't sick). I guess since i live in Oregon, they allow mercy killing. God bless everyone! Happy New year Jennifer!

Usually people who are infected with HIV signs show on skin like lesions and skin cancers. Ulcers open sores herpes on lips. I have seen a few I also know a few plus sized women who are HIV infected. When we think of HiV we think of someone who looks malnourished and thin. I'm seeing more overweight people with the disease now. Btw thanks for sharing your story I respect people who educate others and aren't ashamed of their journey.

It's just a matter of when they begin treatment, I suppose. For a lot of people, the sudden weight loss is a sign that they have it. But some people catch it earlier and end up on treatment before losing weight. Same with the lesions and ulcers. If you catch it fairly early and commence treatment, your immune system can recover very quickly and relieve you of symptoms. We're just lucky that in this day and age, what was once a life sentence has now been reduced to a manageable condition like diabetes. One day it will be curable, too. It's just a matter of coaxing the viral particles from cells in order for the antivirals or your immune system to destroy them. We haven't got there just yet, but science is moving in the right direction now that we have such a wealth of knowledge gathered in the past few decades.

i'm a 22 year old heterosexual man and right now I'm pretty sure i'm hiv positive, past 2.5 months since my exposure i've had all the symptoms incluiding the rare thrush, funny is that i didn't even know what thrush was until my doctor told me i got it. Anyways, taken by stigma I was really scared and cried everyday thinking with luck i was only going to live until like 30, but then i saw your story and I investigated about these topics and now i'm really free of stigma, i even could handle a relationship with someone posiitive if i was negative thing that i impossibly've done before, and each time i see your videos like this one reminds me of no fear in testing positive cause it's a pill of a difference than before, thank you jennifer for sharing your incredibly great life with us and teaching the ignorant like me the hiv reality, hope you doing more than okay and stay tunned with us your fans, love ya.

Jennifer, I stumbled upon your HIV story and after watching it I immediately thought about my aunt. Back in 2000 I had to watch my Aunt died from this virus and it was the most painful experience of my life. I was 18 at the time. I am 34 now and I still break down with the single thought of her. I said that to say this, you have a very positive attitude and I love to watch your videos. For many years I've wanted to be an advocate but it was always too hard. But after watching your videos and seeing all your positivity it made revisit the idea of being an advocate. So, I am looking forward to it and I want to say thank you for your bravery and keep up the good work.

You know, I always say I try not to say what I would or wouldn't do if I haven't "walked a mile". It's easy to hear someone's story and think or say, "Well I wouldn't have put up with _____." or "You should've done ____.". And while I'm at it, it's all too often very easy for people to post comments anonymously. What you (and others) have done in posting about your personal lives takes courage. And I'm fixing to break my own rule and say, I don't think you owe any of us an explanation as to how your story has transpired. In saying that, it's also not my business if you feel the need to clarify...it is after all YOUR story. Just know YOUR story has definitely touched many lives, and I'm sure it will touch many more.

I truly love watching you, it's inspiring in every sense of the word. I also have a friend that has HIV and she has motivated me as well. The last time I saw her was in 1997 and I believe that she had gone through the same thing that you had, where HIV advanced to Aids really quickly (It's good to hear that Aids can revert back to HIV). She got really thin over a couple years or so. I didn't know at the time that she had contracted HIV because I left Florida where we lived and moved to Chicago. I just found out last year because I had been in contact with a mutual friend that told me that's what it was and so I got in touch with her through the mutual friend and she seemed so upbeat when I spoke with her this past December. It was just amazing. So just like her, you exude a great spirit. I am happy for you and I am more informed about HIV and Aids now, which will help in my pursuit of a Nursing career(not that I won't expand upon or research the things that you have said but it is good to have info to begin with).

I commented on another one of your videos about the cost of the medication. You have no idea how lucky you are. You say that you would freak out if you didn't have your pill but some people can't even afford it. The price range is between 1200 and 3500 per month. You have insurance but imagine all of the other people that don't, they have to suffer. There are programs to help people afford medication but I'm unsure if HIV meds are in those programs.
@Pozleigh
@Pozleigh 7 жыл бұрын
+Erika May Just to clarify so others don't worry, HIV meds are very readily available to low income, typically for free, and through private insurances with a copay. My insurance is low income free California insurance. I'm not lucky, I've got what's available to all low income people in Ca. Every state has their own free medical insurance and no one pays. I don't know where you got this info from, but you are wrong. All insurances cover HIV meds, it would be insane if they didn't. This condition is easily controlled with meds so it's necessary to make it available to anyone who has it.

Your very brave to do this but the problem is the health care that people get.....not the way a person looks. Being on public assistance is like okay you get the bare minimum of health care so you just barely stay alive, and barely get paid attention to, where as the people that work and are in the middle class society get the better care. I wish everybody got the same care and the same attention but sadly they don't. we need a better system for this society.

I too just want to say how amazing you are for speaking out. I had no idea that hiv is noncontractable if the infected person is medicated. That makes me feel so much better for society as a whole. My husband and I married when we were in our mid 30's many times we have discussed how lucky we are to not have contracted hiv and etc..lets face it, most single people at some point in time do have unprotected sex. Not all the time, but I myself was in a long time relationship with someone whom had cheated on me numerous amts of times. Of course I didn't know, but later found out after the relationship. Anywho, point is, IT COULD have happen to me. It could happen to anyone, that has had unprotected sex. Like you, Im sure I don't come across a, " type", but it could have happened. In fact, I was worried and did get tested. I was negative, BUT it very well could have happened. Again, thank you for reaching out to people and for educating others.

I told her why didn't they tell the news and she told me they didn't want to start a panic. I think a lot of people have it but the government doesn't have universal healthcare so who would pay for the treatents if so many of us have it? Also, many people refuse to get tested even about other std's. Also oral sex is very dangerous and one should use safe sex always when having oral sex or kissing because either spreads stds. Saying people don't deserve anything bad that happens to them does not even make sense. Many bad things happen to bad people or ignorant people caught in the cross fire. One is worst then the other, your lucky to be blessed as you are because of your ignorance before finding out but someone knowing that they had and gave HIV to someone else that is truly sick wrong and they don't deserve to live. Thinking your a better person because you refuse to admit that does not make you a better person. It's bullsit!

This is a personal question and please don't answer it if you don't feel comfortable. The possibility of HIV infection must be a reality for your partner. Not only is sex a real concern but I once read that it's possible that if a mosquito bites a partner sucks the blood from the HIV positive partner then immediately bites the other HIV negative partner then HIV can be spread since there is blood transmission involved. I mean that could theoretically happen if you both were sitting outside close together on a hot summer night on the patio. Just wondering what type of precautions you or your partner have to take other than sex as that is obvious to protect your partner from catching HIV from you. Thanks

Let's see stadistics. Eventough the possibility is there, there is so hard that a mosquito bites and remains with the virus at the same time and he bites again, it could happen but the odds must be 1 out of 1000, ? Who knows. :P

There is not one recorded instance of anyone contracting HIV from a mosquito bite. That is an old fear left over from the late 80s and early 90s. You also cannot get it from hugging, kissing, toilet seats, sharing drinks etc... It doesn't spread through casual contact. And if you have been on your meds and have become undetectable, you can't pass it on to anyone at all.

I had "that look" to the doctors I guess. I was in my mid 30's, single but not gay although I think my doctors still thinks I am gay haha. Because I claimed to have a girlfriend that he never has laid eyes on. Kinda the snuffaluffagus effect I suppose.

I dont blame you but Im surprised none of the doctors sent you for a blood test in over 2 years, even when you were getting progressively more ill. If Im sick and I go to the doctor, the first thing he does is send me for a blood test. They test for all the common diseases, HIV, Hepatitis, diabetes, that kind of thing. Its unbelievable the doctors took so long, it almost seems negligent. You could have a legal case. I would be pissed if I suffered for 2 years because of their negligence. It must have cost you financially with work, and just the horror of being sick for so long and not getting answers. I dont think its a matter of hindsight, or not fitting the stereotype. Blood tests are a basic, fundamental part of medicine and should be one of the first options.

I was treated for yeast infections by one to two docs, no need for a blood test, that's typical for women. The derm put me on antibiotics for my rash on my face, no need for blood work. The antibiotics were actually causing the yeast infections. The gastro thought my esophogeal pain was due to coffee, no need for blood work. The ENT thought my swollen lymph node was nothing to worry about, no blood work. The doc who saw me for vertigo thought it was ocean water in my ear. And all the sore throats were chalked up to viral sore throats because they were never strep. There was enough time between all the symptoms that everything just seemed like normal/general illnesses. It wasn't until I started having unrelenting fevers, close to my diagnosis that blood because this "virus" I had was getting worse. That was with first time blood work was done and HIV wasn't included. Blood work was done again a few days later with an ID doc and HIV was included. No one put the pieces together because all of these symptoms on their own aren't alarming. I feel the ENT should have taken my swollen lymph gland more seriously and the docs at Docs on Duty should have seen the pattern of illnesses over the years and put it together. My medical is free, didn't cost me a thing. What I experienced isn't isolated, a lot of people aren't aware they are poz until they are at an AIDS diagnosis. It happens.
