Just a PSA: being on certain antibiotics can also make the birth control pill less effective so I would recommend doubling up on birth control methods while taking antibiotics! :)

Yes! Not all antibiotics make birth control less effective but I would ask a doctor to see if your antibiotics may affect it and if so use another method of protection!

So glad you are feeling better Katy! If you are not aware I would highly recommend looking into the Lyme crisis in Canada. The Canadian healthcare system essentially won't diagnose Lyme unless you have the "right" symptoms, ei. a bullseye bite which as you said does not always show up. My uncle contracted Lyme and is unable to get treatment (along with hundreds of other Canadians) and has been living with Lyme for over a decade. You mentioned 3 weeks of a migrane etc. so image that for years and years, being unable to work, or do your favorite acitivities due to pain. It is so awful as if it goes untreated for a period of time those symptoms will be lasting and a lot of Canadian Lyme sufferers end up having to go to the US to get treatment but unfornunatly most cannot afford to move and pay for these treatments :(. Just trying to spread awareness as a lot of people don't know about this !!

Be super careful with minocycline! I took it everyday for a year and a bit when I was 15 (to treat acne), and it completely destroyed my digestive system! I was meant to take it for 6 weeks cures at a time, but my doctor didn't realise that she hadn't communicated that to me. As an antibiotic it eradicated both good and bad bacteria in my gut, I still suffer from severe IBS 12 years on (and wouldn't wish that on anybody). Maybe ask about probiotics whilst you're on it? Congratulations on your promotion! 🎉👏☺️ And yes, The Bold Type is awesome! It's like The Devil Wears Prada finally became a TV Show. 👌😜💕

Hi Katy! I've commented before, I'm a clinical lab scientist, and i just wanted to comment on how you think you might have gotten infected with lyme disease. Only about 20% of people who are infected by a tick bite will produce the bulls-eye rash, so it's much less common than people think. Therefore, it goes unnoticed for a lot of patients. A lot of the symptoms of lyme disease are really non-specific and can mimic many other more serious diseases, so it's very difficult to diagnose. Also, there have been new studies emerging about lyme disease being transmitted sexually. Hope this helps!

Jessy Rose well said I was gonna say the same. So many patients and even drs. think you can only contact Lyme from a tick bite. She’s so incredibly lucky she got a diagnosis at the hospital. So many people struggle for years not getting the correct diagnosis. I was diagnosed with a Fibromyalgia and it has very similar symptoms.

Hey Katy! You said you have no idea when you contracted lyme, but you lived in the Carolinas for school, correct? Well when you went to parties or did stuff outdoors, you likely got bitten then. A lot of times there's a latency period and symptoms don't appear for a long time in some cases. Also your parents' house is near a lake, so that sort of environment would be great for ticks too. I thought I'd shed some light since I study environmental health :) Stay strong!

Im so sorry to hear you have Lyme disease. It’s truly a nightmare. I hope that you are seeing a LLMD (Lyme literate medical doctor or nurse practitioner). An infectious disease doctor or general practitioner will NOT treat you long enough. Lyme disease doesn’t just vanish from the body, it’s there forever. You can go into remission but you won’t be cured. Unless you work with a LL practitioner you won’t be treated long enough for it to go into remission. I treated for 4 months, literally couldn’t afford treatment anymore, and 6 months later I have symptoms coming back. Also anyone who suspect Lyme disease...it can come from ANY biting insect. I got Lyme disease from a mosquito. I just want to share this information because there is A LOT of misconceptions about Lyme disease. Katy you have a huge platform, please- on behalf of those of us with Lyme disease- please share as much accurate information as you can. You have to do your own in-depth research. Much love. I wish you healing.

Hi! Sorry to hear about the lyme diagnosis. My sister in law and friend from high school have been suffering from it for over 5 years. A lot of times with lyme there is joint pain as a symptom. I had Lyme Disease for five years (2000-2005). In the summer of 2000 I got bitten by a deer tick and it gave me Lyme Disease. It bit me on my right inner bicep about three inches below my armpit. When I pulled the tick off he spat in my skin and it left a target bruise. The next day I went to my doctor and when he saw the target bruise he yelled "Damn! You have Lyme Disease!" He gave me an antibiotic shot and a prescription for the strongest antibiotic known to man (his words). After about three weeks I quit taking the antibiotic pills because they made me so sick at my stomach that I couldn't stand it. Along about that time I found out about the Hulda Clark zapper so I bought one and I used it to keep the Lyme Disease in remission. But when the symptoms would abate I'd stop using it. Then a couple of months later the symptoms would return, so I'd start using it again, and so on. I went back and forth like that for five years. But gradually the symptoms were getting worse. Then in the summer of 2005 a friend told me about the hydrogen peroxide cure for cancer and he suggested that I try it to see if it would kill the Lyme Disease. I was a little scared to try it, but I was feeling so shitty that I was willing to try anything. I did the three week procedure and it completely killed the Lyme Disease, and it never returned (doctors say that cancer is curable but that Lyme Disease is incurable. I proved them wrong about the Lyme Disease). The hydrogen peroxide cure for cancer will kill just about any disease (including AIDS). The only disease I know of that it won't kill is herpes, because herpes mixes with your DNA and becomes a part of you (so that in order to kill it you'd have to kill yourself). The procedure I followed is at this link: www.hps-online.com/hoxy.htm I bought a pint bottle of the 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide at a healthfood store in Huntsville Alabama (Nature's Apothecary). You can probably find it at any big healthfood store. The brand I bought was Oxy-Tech brand, made by Eagle Enterprises in Whitney Texas. They have a website. So if you can't find it at a healthfood store you can order it online from them. I bought the Hulda Clark zapper from Tools For Healing in Chattanooga Tennessee. They have a website. There are several KZbin videos telling about zappers and how to use one. If I was going to buy another zapper I'd buy the one with the gold plated contacts because you don't have to clean them before each use (the copper contacts get tarnished by your sweat and have to be cleaned off before each use). Tools For Healing has some pretty good info about zappers. There have been some testimonies by people who said that they killed their Lyme Disease with a zapper, but that they had to have it in contact with their skin all day and all night for a month. The zapper will also kill all of your intestinal parasites if you use it for a month like that. I think you may have to replace the battery after two weeks.
