The Desert Luxe Kit is a brand new Kit released for The Sims 4 in 2022. This new Sims 4 Kit is a build buy Kit for the game. I reviewed whether this new Sims 4 pack is worth it or not!

I was pretty impressed with this pack but I believe the doors are supposed to be open like that on purpose like its supposed to give a "rich" vibe to certain houses or a mansion for the patio or pool area. BUT I do agree that it should have been an option to be able to close them, not sure why they did that...wonder when we will ever get that option :) As always, awesome video!

I believe that doorway is actually an arch, just with the aesthetic of having your doors open. Which I get, in those warm climates people tend to have lots of windows and doors open and create an indoor/outdoor living space effect, but I wish the Sims team would just make it so that doors have an option to stay open all the time instead of having to put in arches to achieve the same look lol I'd like the door to have the option to close

This kit actually reminds me a lot of Arizona and adobe. I have a lot of family in Arizona, so I'm really happy this is free and it made my heart very happy. Jungle adventure matches with this kit pretty well too.

I really thought I was going to hate this kit. I had no plans on getting it, but I’m not a person to turn away free items. I am surprise by how much I do like it. ESPECIALLY the blank curtain rod to match the new curtains. I don’t normally build houses that would have this aesthetic, but here I am on Pinterest trying to get ideas. HOWEVER, I am also slightly disappointed the door is actually an “archway”.

Such a shallow game where we don't even have basic animations like having some doors closing/opening. Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the objects in this pack, but thats just it. I could get the same via CC. The problem is, its The Sims Team job to surprise us once in a while (and to go the extra mile) with quality content, and when the content creators do a better job than them, that says a LOT.

I love the door...but it sucks that it doesn’t close or at least allow you to lock it. I always lock the back door so randoms don’t just enter my house 😂

It’s supposed to be an arch and none of the arches have that option but it’s a bit confusing because it looks more like a door lol. They should have just animated it and set lock options to make it a door but none the less it is still cool.

Having once lived in the southwest of the US, this really give southwest desert vibes- like Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Nevada. Just the colors and the stone/adobe surfaces. It’s very much ubiquitous to that area.

There is an open door like this in Snowy Escape. I love the look of it, but it doesn't keep anyone out LOL I'm guessing this Lux one is a retexture of the snowy one.

I'm sorry but that door/archway mesh absolutely does not exist in snowy escape. This is a tall, folding door and the only 'open door' archway in SE is the wide, low, sliding shoji screen. The only similarity is that they are both fake "doors" lmao (except the SE ones has an accompanying functioning door version, unlike this one). The sims team reuses meshes and just slaps new textures on every so often, yes, but this isn't one of those cases.

I think the Courtyard Oasis kit and this one kinda matching in vibes is actually pretty clever, cause you can mix and match to create pretty interesting looks. Cause if (build) kits all have a bold specific theme, then it becomes harder to match items with other parks or base game stuff. The “Decor to the Max” kit goes very well with the vintage glamour stuff.

The industrial loft kit also comes with one of those arches that has false doors that never close. I think it's standard for kits to have arches like this... Btw thank you so much for making this video! If I hadn't seen it in my feed I would have missed the free period, since I'm not playing the sims at the moment due to the several bugs.

Honestly the stuff in this kit remind me of things I have seen when visiting my cousins in Arizona. While they have sliding glass doors out to their patio and pool area, one of my cousins does have glass folding doors that divide the living room, dining room, and family room/den areas. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them close them so the doors not closing I didn’t think about until watching folks on KZbin mentioning they wished they closed and I see them using them as the patio door (which based on the room build that comes with the kit seems to be what the developers thought it would be used for also so it is odd they didn’t animate it). It’s always interesting to see how people respond to different build and buy things since we all have different lived experiences and so we interpret them accordingly. My first thought was doorway inside the home when I first saw it based on a cousin’s house in Arizona with similar things like that fireplace and awning, etc, and everyone else is like “outside patio door” and I’m like “Ooooohhh! That makes sense, too! Then yeah why doesn’t the door close?!” Also, if those doors were pure wood (no glass), that’s literally the style of door that I grew up with as doors on bedroom closets. Although it was just four doors that folded open like that. My maternal grandparents house had similar doors on bedroom closets that folded like this, except that they weren’t square panels of wood, but were triangular so that as you opened they folded like an accordion. But again, they opened in the center and you moved them towards the door frame in either side. My family in Louisiana has doors between the living room and dining room that are somewhat similar to this except that they don’t fold like this one on either side, but folds only in one direction (it doesn’t open in the center). The doors aren’t original to the house, but were put on by the previous owners my cousin’s husband bought the house from. The only reason she hasn’t removed them is because she’s trying to find doors similar to the original which open into the living room. At least last I knew that was her plan. She may have decided to keep the doors. I haven’t visited since 2019 and she doesn’t talk about it on social media. She mostly talks about her vacations. Great video!!

I'm excited for console players to have this kit. That being said I still refuse to update my game (my game is still pre-HSY patch), but I bet I have something similar enough in the literal 50k pieces of cc I've collected over the years 😬

@@melissat9586 it works pretty OK. I still have some bugs like items disappearing, sims freezing and not completing a task, or the game not saving, but it doesn't happen constantly. I mostly just build anyway and I've had no problems there.

@@iiiiiiiiiiii90000000 once the game updated for hsy, Npcs started disappearing, and a whole assortment of weird bugs. It was okayish before that update though. Once it gets fixed (wishful thinking maybe), I think I will leave off updates as well. I have no build/buy issues, but the live mode is just unplayable. Thank you for giving me the idea to turn off updates once mine is playable again!

i feel like there's pros and cons to packs having somewhat similar stuff to others. on the one hand, it feels like it's things we've already seen before and can kind of replicate like you did, so it can feel a bit disappointing that nothing is particularly unique. but on the other hand, it makes the items a lot easier to use mixed with items from other packs. as fun as it can be to get super unique/niche packs with stuff we've never seen or had before, i find i almost never end up using the items because they just don't match anything else from any other packs, so as a builder, it's cool to see but ultimately worthless. though it's not really my style as a whole, i quite like the items in the new kit, and i think they'll be very useful for builders. :) i'm glad they made it free (after all they've put us through, we deserve to have it free, plus maybe a free pack as well)!

I really like the content in this kit, and I’ve only found one bug so far with it - sometimes the new angled window can look a little awkward once some curtains are placed on it. It’s by no means a big issue but I did notice it while messing around

I kinda like the doors not closing. In my builds I sometimes work use cc doors that are open or an open square arches leading to the backyard to make the house feel more airy. I imagine it to be like giant opened up French doors

To be somewhat fair, they're not sliding doors, they're accordion doors. So they fold and push back, they don't slide, so they either had to completely change the style/type or create a new animation. And you know they're not going to create a new animation for a pack that they're going to be giving away for free for an extended period.

A piece of advice to Xbox users who the kit isn't showing up for. Go to the gallery, select any lot that uses the kit, set the kit icon from that menu, and you'll be redirected to the Xbox store where you'll be able to claim the kit.

Lazy is an understatement. The Sims team is too lazy to upload the lots from the promos for the packs to the Gallery. Look at Dream Home Decorator. None of the lots from the trailer were uploaded to the Gallery.

Can't get into my sim house the lower arrow is stuck on all my saves which means in live mode I can't put the roof up if I try to put the roof up then use the lower arrow page down it is stuck help ??? I can go into build and buy mode and the lower arrow works on the top right there's a upper and lower arrow which brings the walls down .

I just think it's supposed to be like one of those doorways that go out into a rich patio--it was never supposed to close because you're meant to have fences and gates before one reaches it? So… I both agree and disagree on your evaluation of the door? Basically, I still think they’re lazy, but for a slightly different reason. They did this at least once before, too…maybe in Courtyard Oasis? The logic is, sometimes people leave doors sitting open. And so they thought it would be good to add this possibility into the game. BUT. Instead of creating actual new gameplay - say, a setting, available on all (or even some) doors for open or closed the way lights are on or off; they instead just acknowledged the style by adding a permanently open door or two that just function as archways. They didn’t even make the normal door versions of them. And so since the intent of the style is for the door to sit open, there’s no need for an opening animation - leaving the animation off is intentional not lazy. The lazy part is solving the first problem with decorative archways instead of a setting. But I suppose it fits. Curtains and shades are either open or closed as well - you can’t have your Sim close them at night. So you also can’t close up the house for the night by closing the doors you leave open during the day.

I like the new kit, but I don't feel like it's enough to say thanks to those of us who paid full price for the base game. The door not having the animation to close is annoying, and, honestly, I hate the end tables. The shapes look very blocky and uninspired to me.

@@kseniyakaryakina no, I don't mind that at all. I think the base game becoming free is a great idea and am surprised it took this long. I just don't agree with the premise that a $5 kit is a proper gift of thanks to users who did pay and continued making the Sims popular with years of play. I would've preferred a larger package of $20-40 in value, or this free kit plus a special discount code for another two kits, them making small kits free in general, etc. Eta: Speaking as somebody who was not one of those years-long dedicated fans. I played it very sparingly growing up and only bought the latest version a few months ago.

the only reason i like it is because its free. otherwise i would have not bothered because nothing in it is ground breaking and when theres several items i know i would never use the pack immediately decreases in value for me.
