The trick will always be finding a putter that feels good in your hand and matches the stroke you want to use. For me, I ended up making my own so I could put face-on... I found having actual depth perception allowed me to trust my line. Whatever works for you, no matter how gimmicky needs to be what you go with. I used walnut, added a bunch of tungsten to give it a little weight and then epoxied a 1/8" thick piece of aluminum on the base, used an inexpensive Apollo driver/fairway wood shaft for the length. Looks amazing, works great (for me). I went from 3 or (ghasp) 4 putting to 2 and 3 putting. It's saved me at least 10 strokes per round, broke 85 for the first time ever despite hitting horrible tee shots all day. It's all about the short game!

I made a putter similar to that over 20 years ago out of a Zebra putter. Bent shaft backwards at a 10° angle. The ideal was that you swing it like a pendulum straight back and straight through. It had a more upright shaft and perfect balance. I used it for two years. Didn’t seem any better than a regular putter!?!

Slotline putters had alignment marks that let you know when the face was square. It was up to you to get the line on the ball lined up with the hole. It didn’t really change much because you still have to follow through to the hole or the line of your putt. I often see people poking at the ball and their wrists move slightly and the ball gets pushed or pulled. Pick a point ahead of the ball and putt through that point. If you have read the hole right, then it goes in. This might sound goofy but if someone made a flat shafted putter that is set up right, you can see the reflection on the shaft and that would be the pin or the hole. It would still be in regs and if you got it right it would be hard to miss.

Strange looking but in all seriousness, surly the most productive way to test any putter would be on a pure straight put with no break, that way the results of the putter being tested would not be punished for a bad read!!

I mean for a golfer who toes/pulls a lot of putts this may be a quick fix if they don’t want to learn not to do it.. similar to draw bias drivers. Other than that it’s a solution to a problem most golfers don’t have imo.

I think if anything maybe like a mid shafted … maybe extend the heel out and up a bit more to add some weight and give it more of that scythe look. Thanks for the review Rick
@michaelplantarich33753 ай бұрын
To be fair, shutting 1 eye was going to screw with things all along. While using a microscope, there's a reason that teachers always tell you to not close one eye, and learn to look with both. Dropping your hands back while having one eye closed messed with the alignment, even if you made that one putt. However, that is one weird putter, and I can imagine that, on contact, you're more likely to have the club face twist closed, especially if you hit it from the heel. But I'm curious to see what the research eventually says about it. Thanks for bringing another wacky club review, I love these!
@rimskykorsakov28923 ай бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. Trying to alter the way you usually swing a putter is just ridiculous. I feel Rick tries to make excuses to hide his inconsistences in his swing. The prime example of this was his fitting video with Titleist which he took down very quickly.

It's not really a new concept, either. A company decades back made something called the "Basackward" and it did effectively the same thing, only with the putter head being massively offset from the shaft. Felt weird then, and apparently nothing's changed since. Thanks for giving this a go, though, Rick. Keep up the great content!

This putter design is not a new idea. FYI - Gene Littler used one back in the 1960's. The concept was that (with the shaft towards the toe) the clubhead would always want to tend towards squaring up to the line. I saw/tried one many moons ago, and yes, it is somewhat awkward but it does work.

Anyone seen the couzen of Seve and his odd looking putter being sold in American golf stores in the UK? A strange design that actually feels good but its a bit out there to be seen using it on the course. Not seen Rick test it, would be good.
