My brothers and sisters. This matter has confounded me and left me so sad. Dr. Gikonyo says Raila personally drove the ambulance that took Kibaki to Nairobi Hospital after the accident in 2002. Gikonyo in his memoirs writes that Raila immediately paid for three first-class tickets, and had 8 strong Luos from Kibera to carry Kibaki's stretcher on their shoulders, as they crawled on their knees (remember they were inside the plane, and they had to walk on their knees carrying the stretcher, otherwise, it would never have fit), from the uncomfortable economy class to the comfortable first-class section of the aeroplane which flew with Baks to a hospital in London. I mean, it is okay if you vote against Baba here in Kenya, you are just exercising your right and voting for another Kenyan anyway. But when you export this tribalism abroad, we get shocked. We can delude ourselves that Baba supporters will ignore this matter. Nature dictates that reactions follow actions. Baba does not deserve the tribal hatred from Kikuyus. It is painful. That said, supporting this regime as it persecutes its citizens-failing them in healthcare, security, and education-cannot be justified, not even for the sake of a political seat. Raila is no longer just an individual; to many of us, he represents an ideology, an icon of change, an enigma, and a relentless fighter for human rights. To see him condone or support this oppressive regime tarnishes everything he has stood for. We admire and love him, but that does not mean we cannot express our disappointment when necessary.
