Wow! I had no idea that sense of smell had THAT big of an effect on the taste of jellybeans. As someone who has had barf and dog food flavoured jellybeans before, I was extremely shocked seeing you just eating them like they were popcorn.

smell accounts for like 90% of taste. All your taste buds can taste is various levels of sweet sour spicy bitter and umami. Everything else is your brain stimulating your taste based on the aromas of the food. Your other senses can also affect taste like seeing a generic fruit gummy dyed orange will make you more likely to process the flavor as orange. This isnt as strong as smell as your brain is first getting the hit of fruitiness then its associating orange because of the color. Froot Loops are a perfect example of the effect they all have the same flavoring but if you try loops individually often your brain will associate flavors with the colors

I once tasted rotten/dead fish jelly beans (it was from bean boozled) .... it was awful. It was probably the worst one in there... it puked because of it.

@@gaymerjerry smell affecting taste is probably because the body has a defense mechanism to stop you from eating rotten/expired food, and often if something smells bad it's because it has expired/gone bad.

@@ChrisHendricks I don't personally know anyone who dislikes the smell so much they'd try to get away. Children might jokingly hold their noses but it's more of a playful kinda thing. Durian types can be identfied from smell, appearance and taste of the flesh.

I tried durian flavor candy once, and at first it was kinda good, but over time it got grosser and grosser to eat because I guess I could taste the nuances more as I got used to it. Finally, I couldn't finish the box, so I threw it away.
