Blank the series is one of best Thai series. Commonly you will find awkward and cringe acting in gl series, even plot is so cliches and overused. But the blank show us that you don’t need fan service to show chemistry and make series success with fs. Fayeyoko did amazing, their acting is top tier and chemistry is so good without fan service. Blank the series have realistic and 3d characters, we can feel their emotions. Story is very interesting. Many love it and prefer it over gaps.

Well from what I see fans are heartbroken about the reduced interaction between FreenBecky and so they started liking Blank more Gap. But lets stay real as someone who enjoy and appreciate any good GL story, I think all actors in Gap and Blank the series play their roles well with the right chemistry. Fans just don’t overreact please and lets give the actors the privacy they deserve. Also don’t take this comment offensive as I just want fans to appreciate the good GL series out there since I like Gap, Blank and The rich man’s daughter the top tier GL series in the past 15 years

I'm also a fan of Freen and Becky, I loved the Gap series. They are cute together but at some point when The Blank series aired I feel like I have never been excited and curious about this series. Many say that because of Faye who carried the show but in my opinion first of all the story itself is so beautiful and gives us a curiosity about this Series. Second the Characters Faye are good at acting and give us so much in her acting skills, but don't forget Yoko also because for me it is a blend in everything her good acting skills , her innocent look and her for being natural star her characters that is annoyingly cute, so natural that many who watch it love her in a instant. All the staff are great because the result is so beautiful and admirable. I personally love The Blank series over the Gap series. The Blank series gives us beyond expectations. Over all top notch. Love love all 🌈😊

IDK about all that lol I mean what's more cliché than "Naive and sheltered girl with mommy issues falls in love with older woman"? I'd say gap did better on that front bc at least she had a great relationship with her parents and she actually waited until she was all grown to go after the woman. Basically, it's all cliché lol

Thank you for taking the time to carry out this analysis. I started watching this series recently just because I was curious about all the controversy that was created around it and the truth is that I am grateful for having made the decision to watch it and not be guided by some bad comments. When I watched the first episode I had a hard time connecting with Anueng's character since she was very annoying and childish, but as the episodes went by I understood why she had that personality and I honestly love her now. I slightly disagree with what you mention about the chemistry of the characters, because as soon as I started watching Blank I was really impressed by the chemistry they give off, both in their characters and in real life. I have seen many GL series but I think none has captivated me as much as Blank, it is definitely now in my top 1. The acting of both actresses is incredible and the development of the story is wonderful. The best decision I have made lately was to watch this series.

Totally agree with you. The chemistry was natural, not forced. That’s exactly how it would feel, considering their different life stages and also so early on in their relationship. As the series progresses, we see aneung begin to take her rightful place, ask that equal commitment is returned and begins to behave more like an equal.

When people make bad comments, I'm more compelled to see what they're talking about. I have to agree, I saw nothing wrong with the chemistry between the characters. They performed as in real life, especially the Sapphic age gap relationship. Which is so different from BL or hetero. Believe me, it is. And I think people forget, depending on the culture, chemistry is gonna look different. Wide age gaps are always gonna look different, and I can already tell from the performance without reading the book that Faye's character is extremely insecure about the age difference more than anything else. It is the root driver of her decisions in the story.

Personally i like the story and the chemistry. I'm so over teen romance at this point and this is finally something new. Season 1 has been great imo, the chemistry is there. Anueng is 21 and with that an adult, there's nothing romantic happening before she turned 21 and she's in college by episode 5. The book was problematic but the scriptwriters did a great job in avoiding 99% of the weird stuff. Gap was just as problematic if you read the book. Between Mon and Sam is also a big age gap considering Mon is 20(younger than Anueng) and Sam 29(almost 30) As i said the series is doing a great job and while Anueng was very annoying at the beginning it was mostly a defense mechanism due to abuse and abandonment issues. She's more mature than most of the characters in the show.

@@roblox1-pc2epit’s not because of the actresses ages. Their age gap didn’t feel significant in GAP because it wasn’t made to be. I think this is a very thorough and well thought out analysis and I agree with most of your assessment. However, I would like to add a couple of thoughts here. I believe that since the very beginning of the series they were hinting at the depth of Aneungs character. If you were to go back and watch episode 1, you would see that there are subtle moments when her maturity comes out but that it is quickly masked by her childlike persona. I think it was purposely done this way to show that as she draws closer to Khun Neung the safer she feels and as such, the more she lets the mask come down. As for the chemistry, I believe that they do have natural chemistry. I just think there are a couple of things at play here. One being Yoko is fairly inexperienced as someone else mentioned. (I personally do not think that it took away from this love scene). Secondly, I think what was portrayed in the love scene was done deliberately. I believe this love scene was that of comfort. Khun Neung was sad and hurting and Aneung was comforting her and in doing so was trying to be very respectful of Khun Neungs vulnerable state and put Khun Neungs needs before her own. Therefore, she allows Khun Neung to set the pace in the love scene. Which is why you probably felt that Aneung was holding back at least initially. There was a vulnerable tone to this entire love scene. Which I think was purposefully done not just because Khun Neung is grieving but also because it is the first time that they both let down their masks and let themselves be truely exposed. This isn't a love scene of passion but of searching for connection and solace. I personally think Faye and Yoko portrayed these feelings very well and I love that the writers chose to show a different kind of love scene to what we typically see depicted on screen. That being said, I can't wait to see what else the writers and the actors bring out of these characters and how the rest of the storyline develops.

I mean, I get it but I also think that we have to notice that is anueng's first time showing emotional and physical connection to someone. It's her first time kissing someone, first time having sex with someone.... Even if she is desesperate about it, she is still afraid about it, if you know what I mean. If you see the bts of that love scene is more passionate than this one. I mean KN was grieving, they are not horny or anything. Anueng just wants to show her love and confort

When my friend recommended me this series starring another Miss Thailand (Show me love did so much harm to my mind) with the whole controversy, I was super hesitant to watch it. But when the episodes went by, I completely fell in love with the series. It's so well performed, edited and with such great OST. Something you'd never expect in such series, at least a GL. I do see the chemistry between Faye and Yoko, they are super cute together and their intimate scene was so powerful. I also appreciate they are not doing fanservice (for now, at least). At the beginning, I found A-Neung's character annoying, but I'd say it was intentional. Thanks so much for your insights, you're awesome.

To be fair to the writers, they had a really crazy source material to work with. Chaoplanoy, the writer of the novel, likes to write crazy storylines but she doesn't care much about diving deeper on the characters lives and motives and backgrounds, that's also why the grandmas feel so flat. And that's one of the things I really love about the show, the writers. To me they did a excellent job with what they had. To the chemistry with Faye and Yoko, I think that at the beginning they not having chemistry and no sexual tension was deliberate, because of the ickness it would transpass. The thing is, they had then to build that chemistry in two episodes, when we see Neung showing love towards Anueng. You also have the fact that Yoko was really nervous about their love scene (to the point of crying), I think she is an excellent actress but she is very introverted and shy, it took a lot of her to be comfortable doing this. Their coach and director did a excellent job tho and their more intimate scenes and the more emotional scenes are the highlights of this season for me. Side note: I think they didn't have much trouble with Nueng wardrobe because Faye dresses practically the same, she is actually more daddy than Nueng 😆

Good day all! I really appreciate your review and agree that it started out with a huge question about the age gap and direction. As an avid Thai and international GL fan, I was not phased, but was waiting for the opening to make this situation acceptable to Western ideals. I will say that Anueng's voice and tantrums had me vexed, but I see she changed that up in the later episodes. I have followed Faye Malisorn for some years and agree that she is "Suay" (Beautiful) and a former Miss Grand Thailand 2016. She also said she only likes women and is a top. So, a lot of people may be getting their passports ready for that Thailand trip. ✈😸

Let’s be honest, Faye can have chemistry with a cardboard box, so I really think that the initial lack of chemistry comes from the fact that Yoko doesn’t have a lot of experience. Blank the series is such a quality show. I have not read the novel , but it is my opinion that the showrunners have done such a good job and refined the material they had to work with. There’s character development in the show as is in life, their chemistry is just where it should be for now. The acting is not dramatic or unrealistic given their life experiences as per the story. What I prefer the most about blank over all the other Thai Gls is the deep storytelling, there’s also the layered nature of the main leads; their acting range is top notch. I always feel like I can't really criticise lesbian age gap romances too much because I was in a relationship with a woman 10 years older than me when I was in my early 20s and it was not only the healthiest relationship I have ever been in, it was also the most healthy relationship I know overall lol. But it did ultimately end because of that age gap. I was still growing, she was already very stable in who she was. I wanted to explore more, she wanted to settle. In a way, an age gap where the younger person is under 30 can doom a relationship even if it isn't toxic. As a teenager and young adult I definitely REALLY liked age gap romances where the younger woman was under 25 lol. Now that I am 30 myself, I don't find them interesting anymore at all. Turns out I just really like women who are very stable, confident and independent, which are often times women over 40. I liked women in their 40s when I was a teenager and I still like them now, where it's much more appropriate. So I think it's completely okay for girls/young women to fantasize about being with older women. But being an adult myself now.. cringe at the thought of being with someone so much younger than me. Much more so when they act childish or very young. That's also why I am currently longing for more lesbian romance media with two adult women beyond their 30s and 40s. But I guess I will give this show a try, even if it's just for my inner teenager who would have adored this!

I feel like comparing Gap and Blank feels really natural because they're in the same universe, but behind the scenes, it's apples to oranges. Gap was created by a company that is run by Saint, who's career has been in BLs. Gap therefore heavily leaned into a lot of the tropes that are popular with the BL crowd, but used the organic chemistry from FB to bring in WLW that normally wouldn't be part of the Asian drama fandom anyway. It was the perfect combination that brought in enough numbers to show that GLs could be profitable. Blank on the other hand is almost a fan made project. To my knowledge neither the CEO nor the COO have a ton of experience in the industry, and they seemingly created the company on a whim because they wanted to make the shows they would want to watch themselves. Moving forward 9starstudio will be GL focused, and I think it shows already in the tone Blank has vs Gap. Where Gap strayed from the novel in order to attract the larger BL crowd, the team behind Blank has tried their best to stick to the source material since they have admitted to being fans of the novel. Btw, Ice who plays Sam 2.0 is also the COO of 9starstudio. Her version of Sam is in my opinion much closer to the version in the novel. Freen admitted in an early Gap workshop that she wasn't a fan of the character and presumably may have influenced some of the changes that were done to Sam. To be honest, Sam is much more likeable in Gap the series than in the novel so they definitely were positive changes, but since the blank team is sticking to the source, you'll likely see more discrepancies between the shows in future episodes. Anyway, no pitchforks here, I only got into Gap because of your review in the first place. 😂 So thank you!

Although I'd like it if the scriptwriters did stick close to the novel for season 2 of "Blank", there is no way they will be able to. There is just too much sex and controversial material (in the eyes of some) that would be too risky to include. I am eagerly looking forward to seeing what they do include from the novel this season. EDIT: After watching episode 3 of Season 2, it looks like I underestimated the courage of the script writers to include at least some of the more (potentially) controversial subject matter into the drama. I am very happy to have been wrong in my prediction.

Love learning that Ice, the COO was also a fan of the source materials. Which is weird because I think based on the readers the source materials was really, really wild. 😂 But the way Blank was done is how I think people in the LGBTQ community would’ve done it. With Respect, Care and Softness. Also, with Self-Awareness that since this is a huge gap story they need to build up the character dynamics which a much deeper touch. I honestly think the series was smartly and carefully well done.

Initially I couldn’t connect to Yoko’s character bcoz I felt it lacked depth. They showed us that Yoko is in awe of Faye in the first episode but didn’t show how and why she fell in love with her. But gradually I have started liking her. Even though Gap didn’t have the best storyline it had the best chemistry. Freen and Becky aced the romantic scenes. I will still say it is the best GL bcoz of the chemistry. Maybe bcoz Freen and Becky have been working and spending time with each other for 2 years whereas Faye and Yoko barely know each other for 3 months.I have seen many GL shows after gap but was mostly disappointed coz the actresses lack chemistry and some don’t even know how to KISS. I am liking Blank and I am emotionally invested in it. Faye is a really good actor and portrays emotions really well. I liked their romantic scene and I am waiting for much more bold scenes in season 2.😅

23:47 is exactly what I've been saying about Blank. I feel that so many people are caught up in the large age gap that they don't realize that it is Aneung who is the one who's more emotionally mature and Neung, the older, who is in need of that loving and patient guidance. The two women better each other and actually need each other, even if everyone says that they don't belong together because of their age gap.

For me, "Blank" is the best GL I've ever seen, even better than "Gap". I don't agree that the chemistry isn't there - I think what they've done is perfect. Anueng has always been relentlessly persuing Nueng, and doesn't try to hide it. Nueng initially felt nothing for Anueng, and in fact found her clingyness annoying. But slowly, Anueng wore down Nueng's defences, and when Nueng started to notice this, she tried on several occassions to chase Anueng away, the most dramatic of these occassions being the final scene of episode 6. I've seen hundreds of sex scenes in movies and dramas, and NONE have affected me emotionally as much as the sex scene between Nueng and Anueng, even though (almost) no skin was shown.

Blank series Khun Sam, even accounting for the years of difference between the GAP part of the story and the Blank part of the story, is one, far better casted, and two, a much more three-dimensional, not artificially stunted version of Sam. I would have like to see this version of the character in Gap rather than what they presented. In avoiding the 8-year age gap between Mon and Sam, and as well as the fact that Khun Sam was a self-made billionaire, Gap the Series so completely broke the character of Khun Sam that it almost became a children's story. The backstory of Khun Nueng and the doctor. The only kind of relationship that Khun Nueng could possibly have prior to her transformation by Anueng would basically be what you see in part 4 of episode 6. This is a 36 year old woman who has never been in love or in any way vulnerable, so her relationship with the doctor was as a f buddy. The doctor (even at the point where we see her in the series) has a long term girlfriend. The series took artistic liberties in order to punch up the tension between Anueng and Nueng. The real scene in the novel, has Nueng meeting with both the doctor and her girlfriend for dinner and Nueng only has the doctor pretend to be interested in her to make Anueng jealous which works. I suspect they want to have the good doctor end up with someone else in the story because in the novel, she does not reappear after the dinner, but in the series she is at the funeral. Since in the series they also made her single, this suggest they want her to end up with one of the other characters and the only one possible is the dad who she just happened to be standing near at the funeral. ps. Season 2 (the rest of the novel) is rumored to begin on May 4th.

What I like most about all of this is that Faye is part of the LGBT community. She has said it openly and without any problem. She had a 5-year relationship with a woman, and from what can be seen, her partner in the aesthetics that she has in Thailand is her partner, since they have the same rings. For my part, she is my super crush, and I want to marry her. And the best thing, I can admire her without any type of remorse or anything like that. I love your videos, thanks for reacting to Blank. I hope you make one of Faye to admire her beauty and pour honey over her together, Regards.

Thank you! You touched on everything I mentioned in your previous video including the things I couldn't articulate; such as the chemistry being stilted and not understanding if it was because Anueng was inexperienced and shy or the actress was terrified of Faye (which is understandable because... Well, look at Faye) but it ended up leaving me cold to the point I preferred the scenes when they weren't being physically intimate because there was more chemistry in that. Side note/question: I just want to know what happened and why they couldn't get Freen and Becky to reprise their roles? Anyone have an answer?

I'm also a fan of Freen and Becky; I loved the Gap series. They are cute together, but at some point, when The Blank series aired, I felt like I had never been excited and curious about this series. Many say that it was Faye who carried the show, but in my opinion, first of all, the story itself is so beautiful and gives us curiosity about this series. Second, the characters: Faye is good at acting and gives us so much in her acting skills, but don't forget Yoko too, because for me, it is a blend of everything: her good acting skills, her innocent look, and her being a natural star. Her characters are annoyingly cute and so natural that many who watch them love her in an instant. All the staff are great because the result is so beautiful and admirable. I personally prefer the Blank series over the Gap series. The Blank series goes beyond expectations. Overall, top-notch. Love love all 🌈😊

For those who read the novel before watching the series... They definitely tried to clean up some of the more controversial stuff, namely the age thing to be more acceptable. For Blank, it started out strong but I take issue with the editing of ep 5 and 6, especially 6. It was sooooo choppy, like just bridging the different parts of the story together was so sloppy. That being said, there's a lot of merit that can be given to both the production of GAP and Blank.

I am currently in Thailand, in Bangkok specifically. I've been here for a couple of months, and I've noticed something: there are MANY lesbian couples on the street. Many even go hand in hand. But what has caught my attention the most is that many times (really, many): either one looks much older, and/or one is much more masculine (like Sam's friend in GAP) ((In fact, I have noticed this last thing in other Asian and Southeast Asian countries...)) So... yep, well, I'll leave you the information here, I'm probably very ignorant about many things, so I'll delete it as soon as I know you read it hahaha Another detail for your "mental files" haha is that I have seen many of these couples in galleries of art and exhibitions. Like if those places have a particular concentration of GL hehe. Fun/interesting fact? maybe. Oh, and yes, that button-down shirt style is very trendy here, and pleated dress pants it´s a recent thing also. OooK Bye.

So what you said about their chemistry during their physical moments it's totally fair but personally I actually liked how subtly awkward it felt. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it but i felt like it showed how inexperienced anueng is and is just acting on what she feels and wants in contrast to Khun nueng being conflicted and trying to restrain herself from what she feels for Anueng because she is younger. But if it remains the same as the story and relationship progresses in the series I don't think it will have the same effect, so we'll have to see. About the doctor, she and Khun Nueng had a one night stand some long time ago and remained casual friends ig. In the novel the doctor was actually with her girlfriend as well when they had diner so it was the three of them. if I'm not mistaken the doctor's story is a novel called "Affair" written by the same author as "Gap" and "Blank" and is being adapted into a series as well.

Ey Blank is definitely completely different to GAP.. but the writing is craazy😂(good).... I find myself both nervous for everyone and at the edge of my seat... I like that their chemistry isn't too wild, i see it as a hyper awareness of their own role in the situation.. e.g. fayes character stresses that she respects confidence, but we know that little one's confidence probably stemmed initially more from the highs of flirting, than a natural faith in herself.

Am I the only one who couldn't get passed the first episode? I found that Anueng's character acted like a clingy 12 year old plus she was still in high school so I found it off-putting that her character was being paid off with a 36 year old that actually acted her age and was at a Avery different stage in life (like not still needing help with school work). I worried their dynamic in future episodes would come off as weirdly parental since they sort of have that vibe in episode 1(at least to me). People keep praising the series so maybe it gets better over time bit I'm not sure if I'm willing to take the leap.

Which may give more insight into KN thought process. Regardless, after the video release of 3.2 workshop scene, I’m convinced it is a major turning point for both actresses. It was more passionate than the scene that aired! Which was a smart move from the producer/director to add it after the fact. Keeps us wanting more! ❤ I believe season 2 will be much different, not only bc of the intimate scenes to come but bc they will be more comfortable as “co-stars” or whatever we are calling it. ❤

Some fans even look past Sam abusive behavior because they idolize freen. When had a man been treating his younger female intern the way Sam was treating mon. They would be like heck no That's messed up. Where's HR when you need them. I guess I'm controversial, because GAP felt incredibly immature in so many ways compared to Blank. Just so we're clear, Freen and Becky weren't the issue. The overall tone of the show was. Part of that might have to do with the fact that GAP aired on television, not just KZbin. The novel is definitely a bit darker than the show. Blank never had any hope of being mainstream, so they followed the novel a bit more. My only criticism of your review is you never explicitly stated whether you have or have not read the book. That context is actually really important. Things don't always translate well from book to screen, despite how wonderful the writing or the acting are. The book isn't a literary masterpiece, but I do think people should read it before they pass judgement on the show or the acting.

Thai here. For context, that type of school uniform is for 16-18 years old. (Some private schools may be different, but most have the same pattern, even in the vocational colleges.) I've worn this, most thai girls have worn this. What I (and many) find problematic is If this is a show about an adult man and a school girl and have this exact same poster, people wouldn't be this excited. No right mind adult would interest in a girl in a uniform which is indicated that it's possibly be a minor, right? Then why it's start to be ok when it's wlw relationship. If they change the school girl phase part altogether to some uni student or whatever, it'll be fine. But they still keep those parts and what, change the age? Yeah, so accurate to the reality. Such a great copout. FYI, the original writer has been quite a problematic one since 2017. With her opinion towards the community and also her writing.

@natmal9774 I agree. I'm 25 (bout' to turn 26) and teen romances are boring and a thing of the past, It's always the same plot in movies and series. I just to love teen romances back in the day of course when I was a teenager cuz they were cheesy and unrealistic, but now that I'm older, I want to watch a mature and realist romances. Give credit to the blank producers of turning a messy book into a good series. Btw, I'm looking forward to Pluto as well and The Secret of Us.

@@N0b0dy08 yes me too. Teenage romance IS cute but I want the angst, the drama, adult problems. And yes, I mean 9starstudios are ruled by women so they knew to Take the things that made the story unconfortable and change It. Thats why Im angry that People are judging It based on the book and not the series. The book was weird but they made the series beautiful 💖. Me neither, so many GLS coming and Im excited for all of them: Pluto, Dream, the secret of us, royal Pin, uranus, be mine .... Every single one 😝💖

The one who keeps chasing from the very start is the younger one. The older one eventually just gave in. Point blank, there's CONSENT. Let's be honest though, we all had crushes on women who are older than us. If we were all blessed to be with our older women crushes, wouldn't we also take that chance? come on! I personally would give up everything if I had a chance on Jennifer Beals.

At this point I'm almost certain they can't write an unproblematic GL. First GL with the weird boss/intern(?) power and age dynamic then Blank with the huge age dynamic. No idea if it's shock marketing or if that actually something they endorse, not sure what is better tbh. Everythime I read some one of their books or watch one of the shows that are based one their books I get the ick and can't touch the whole GL genre for a few month.

@@nyeehees579 No not really I’d rather have nothing than this borderline pdf stuff. Yes they did change the age in the show but this is just lipstick on a pig. Just as I don’t like Harry Potter stuff because of JKR I don’t really like this because of the OG author.
