U give them too much credit. The purpose of this handle was not to improve comfort or sensitivity! Absolutely not! The purpose of this handle was to cut 3 grams of weight from the rod. Because otherwise this rod will be 60 grams, and today 60 gram is embarrassing. Yamaga Blanks is very similar, but full size handle, and is 60 grams.

It seems we've definitely reached the point where design matters more than functionality. Thankfully my Tict SRAM rods have generous foam handles, but if it wasn't for that I'd probably consider picking up some cork as well! I agree that the 1mm top guides can be ridiculous but if you stick to

Alternative method…cut your index finger off. Maybe this rod is from the Yakuza series. Most of those guys are already missing a finger.😂

thanks Gary. I've done this 3 times for 5 years and haven't try to find the best way. Every time i put the cork there just 'temporary' to see if it will help, and then never take it off : )

Not just JDM rods. The Abu Garcia Vendetta baitcasting rods all have too short grips for comfort. It hadn't occurred to me to try to fix them, but maybe I will now.

To be honest i think they just want ro out on paper how light the rod is to impress people. If they add thumb support they have to add 2 grams..

Probably. For me, it's the way they narrow the circumference of the grip at the rear. I always feel that the grip wants to squirt out of my hand. If you hold your hand as if around a reel, then it seems to me that the part of your hand away from your thumb is larger in diameter, not smaller.@@ifishcatfish

I have same issue with my rod..but i just use EVA foam shape into size and put 2 silicone O ring or heat shrink tube because tape is sticky and messy

some tapes have too much adhesive. This tape i have is very clean. I can wrap it very tight and feels like plastic. Very hard and sensitive

Instead of electricians tape perhaps you could try some heat shrink tube? I have seen it advertised somewhere as a replacement handle option for surf casting rods.

Out of interest . I have the gekkabijin mx ajing in both sul and ul . I prefer the ul to to sul as i find the ul to be more sensitive and just as fun as the sul model when it comes to playing fish . I can feel more of the fight and bends almost as much as the sul model . I'm looking at purchasing one of the presso ags models you have and wondered your findings when comparing the sul and ul model . I also have the gekkabijin air ags ul and love it . The newer daiwa rods fish beautifully . I look forward to hearing your findings .

I have a second video comparing the models. I am careful to compare sensitivity as it is extremely subjective and influence by many things. But in that video i describe the power and the action of all models in the lineup and u can make your choice yourself using only objective descriptions. My preferences are different than yours and my preferred feel and fun are different, so its better not to go there. But i do have 4 of these rods now and i think they are the best trout magnet twitching rods in the world, bar none, not even those stupid exotic brands like in this video, and the ML model is in my opinion the best swimbait UL fishing rod in the world also, bar none.

I got this rod in the 21 corto prototype 6'4" I think it is . Same specs . It's extra fast though . Is too fast . Very sensitive . Can't use 2.3lb ester , it's too thick . Chokes the cast . I have to use pe 0.15 max and 0.12mm diameter leader . Stupid microguides . Grip I find is ok at best . Was looking at 23 model in fast action instead of extra fast . Will not bother now I think .

Review ? I look forward to it but I'm guessing it's gonna be similar to 2021 model but even more uncomfortable . 21 model is slightly tip heavy with reels under 165g . Your model I'm guessing is fast action and has more fun factor , especially as the fish you are catching are much bigger than mine . Extra fast action of 21 model kills the fun of super ultralight with smaller fish . Hopefully graphite leader fixed the issues with the 23 6'4" model , if that is what model you have . You righta out Daiwa and shimano . Gebekkajin mx and ags ajing in sul and ul are excellent rods . They feel so beautiful in nearly every way . I look forward to your review .
