Definitely a relatable conversation at the restaurant. Music and fishing are my two biggest passions as well. Both have seriously helped me through hard times as well. I’ve considered both as a career, but I wussed out and stuck with healthcare.

Loved the analogies of fishing and musicianship with regards to expressing oneself and finding ways to keep it fresh/exciting to prevent burnout….👍🏼 It was great to meet your brother…it sounds like your reconnections with each other over the years have always been symbiotic. 🤗

Your story with hitting that wall, and you and your brother helping each other bring that passion and fire back to the things you both love growing up is great dude. This video kind of blew my mind for a couple of reasons. First, because it shows you are a lot more serious and thoughtful a person than you usually let on (yes that’s a complement). Second because I can see the love and respect you and your brother have for each other. Third because you actually bought some Vision 110s, showing that the baitmonkey crosses all borders and time zones. And that jazz music wafting over the vid was brilliant. 👍 ❤️

Ben thanks for sharing about that Dark place. As I'm watching, I'm sitting with my mother who is in her last days of a fight with brain cancer. Watching your videos and ordering, playing, fishing with new tackle has been an escape I've really needed at the time. I wasn't going to comment about that, but figured after you said what you said I'd thank ya for the outlet.

Very interesting! As a semi-retired professional musician (steel guitar) and a compulsive fisherman and tackle addict I had to learn Jacob's story as well as yours, Ben. So I Googled Jacob Koller and dug his ongoing metamorphosis, much like my own and a whole lot of us who've made our livings doing the arts. Looking at the lures was ho-hum, but the conversation and topics discussed, especially paralleling seat-of-pants onstage improvisation with on-water experimentation, effects of burn-out and recovery, and more was totally a grok-fest. Thanks so much for this, the most involved and fascinating episode I've watched in years of viewing HookUp vids. 👍👍👍

One thing to add is not throwing a bait because you want to catch fish, but just to learn and observe the bait. I was surprised how much I do this and don't mind not catching them...yet lol. When good and buzzed up I always say on the boat, each caught fish has to go back and tell his buddies he was abducted by an alien, and they picked him up and stared at him then put him back...lol! What? A dragonfly bug repellent? Were you guys clowning around or serious? I've heard hanging a filled brown bag will keep bugs away as it looks like a hornets nest, but never a handmade dragonfly. $26 8XD, now I feel better about my million 110's at $25! 😊 Thanks Ben, not only do you have my favorite (drug) JDM baits, but you give moral support too! 😉

So merchandising hard baits in Japan...seems like one per peg? do they grab what you want from the back? Great video. Many parallels but funny thing is I got screwed out of money more times in fishing than from dirty rock bars!

I’d think you wouldn’t see trash on the ground very much in Japan as we have here in the states. It makes me sick to see the trash left around my home lake in the areas that get fished from the bank a lot. Some idiot dumped a 55 gallon drum of used motor oil right next to the water and it all leaked out. That should be prison time.
@KriticullCTRL Жыл бұрын
Did you report it or do anything to have it handled/moved?
@jamesbarron1202 Жыл бұрын
@@KriticullCTRL it’s was already leaked out and everywhere. They throw beds, washing machines, old jet skis, tires and even old boats away there. I’ve seen it all. It’s a very small bridge that crosses a small creek we all crappie fish. It’s a well known trash dump. The game warden patrols it often.
@romaloboda2280 Жыл бұрын
There is trash in Japan, just go past cities, and watch Japanese fishing videos. They throw small gas tanks into the sea from a boat after fishing, etc. Don't forget about Fukushima.
@jamesbarron1202 Жыл бұрын
@@romaloboda2280 I would’ve thought with their traditions of not even walking inside their homes with shoes on, that they’d really be against trash. I brought this up because he said only pork could be used in certain lakes.
