I just wish the villagers would interact much more with the furniture. I get so sad building stuff for them to completely ignore it forever that I eventually stopped playing. The forever empty fairground rides were the worst lol.

I was always curious how people felt who DO actually take the time to make their valley so pretty, just for it to basically be mostly aesthetic and only our character gets to use /interact with anything. My valley still looks the same as when I first bought the game aside from character houses and very few decor items.

Transparency is definitely key when it comes to a game like this. I would rather pay for a game that I would play for hours on end than not paying for a game that I would loose interest in not even a hour after playing.

Still kind of pondering how I feel. When they were so generous with moonstones through dreamsnaps, I really wondered how they would make money going FTP, so I do get that decision. A little bummed personally because I had been waiting for it to go FTP to get it for my PC (been playing it thru Xbox GamePass and bought a copy for my Switch), so now I need to decide if I want it badly enough for my PC to purchase another copy plus the XP and I’m not certain I do, at least not at the moment. The thing is the people that supported the game by buying the founder's pack for $70 are getting screwed. New players (gold) are getting the game cheaper, with the dlc included. They want founders to pay an additional $30 for the dlc, how is that ok? How is that not screwing the people that supported them?

I really feel for people who I know were holding out for it to be free to play. If that were me, I would be upset, and rightfully so. That said, I have been playing since week one and the rest of the news was not surprising to me. I am very excited for expansion DLCs while still getting realms unlocked for free. I am excited that founders members will be able to get the downloadable cosmetics for free from the gold edition. I am excited for the future and what is to come of this game and continuing to watch my favorite streamers play it! I would appreciate DDV to be more transparent, but as someone who works at a large tech company, its not as easy (sadly) to roll out information to consumers quickly (like Palia, who is a smaller business and can be more transparent). That said, they could have done this a lot better, but I agree that I prefer quality > free to play access.

The one thing I would say, is that them charging for the game doesn't guarantee an improvement in quality or reduction in microtransactions. They could literally just charge more and pocket the money with no changes to what they were going to do.

They are okay with it, because they already paid so even in the worst case scenario it doesn't effect them. That is true for me too, though I think we should be realistic and not hope for too much, because I am confident they are going to continue doing microtransactions.

I am just glad I didn't get the cozy edition even though I really want the raccoons. I do think they should have told us it wasn't going f2p when they announced the cozy edition. I am very excited for the expansion pass though. I will have to watch the stream to see what's all in it, but I don't think $30 is going to be unfair price for it from what we have seen so far. I just hope that there's going to be some free content for everyone alongside the expansion pass and multiplayer and act 2 is part of the free content.

I am pretty confident they knew they weren't going free to play by the time cozy edition was out. They probably knew they weren't going free to play back when they increased the daily blue chest moonstones. So yeah I agree, they should of said something.

I am disappointed but at the same time super excited for the expansion pass and will be getting it. DDV had become one of my favorite games, so this isn't killing it for me. I think them doing this will just make the game better and the free updates they can do bigger and better as well. I am also so happy they decided to not nerf moonstone rewards for dreamsnaps instead.

This is the last straw for me. I was cautious of this game because I had a feeling this was going to happen. I’m upset with all the new cozy games trying to nickel and dime us while they over saturate and dilute the genre. I’m already writing a script to make a video about this with DDV being the focal point in the ‘degradation’ of the cozy game genre. It should not be tolerated to have a PAID game with a cash shop. The only exception I can barely tolerate is when MMOs do it. I’m exhausted with content that should have been in the game when you buy it being sold back to me. I’d rather drop $60 on a feature complete game (like Baldurs Gate 3) than just $30 for the game and $20 for more stuff that should have been in the game. Sorry if I’m a downer but I’ve been burned by Epic Games with how they gave up on Fortnite STW. If you have to have a spreadsheet for which pass you want to get to get the content you want is a bad sign they plan to continue to obfuscate their intentions to nickel and dime you.

@@Doyoungismyfave Expansions are fine when it is extra content. My issue is games FIXING issues or putting stuff that are essential to enjoy the game into paid expansions and not an update. Look at Stardew Valley. Has had several updates that would technically fall into my definition of acceptable paid dlc and he released them FREE. That game has arguably more content that DDV and is half the price. My Time at Sandrock has more, Coral Island, Sun Haven, all have way more thought and content in them and don’t try to bleed you for money and they have infinitely smaller dev teams and budgets than a Disney IP.

I don’t mind it not going F2P, BUT I do mind them having lied about it and not respecting their customers enough to be honest with us as soon as they knew they were backing out of it. And the fact they seem to be punishing founders who paid $60 for the Ultimate package, forcing us to pay another $30 for the expansion while new players can pay $60 with the expansion included, that bites.

I personally don’t mind DLC but I do think it’s overpriced. The base game was $30 on its own, and that got us 8 biomes and so so many characters and items. Now we have to pay an additional $30 to get probably 3 extra biomes and let’s say 2 characters per biome so 6 new characters. That doesn’t feel comparable to me. It would be like paying $30 for the base game and only being able to unlock just through Dazzle Beach. I think if the expansion was $15 that feels much more reasonable to me and I wouldn’t mind a bunch of expansions at $15 each. I also wish the expansion was more themed. So like all Star Wars characters for example. Or all Marvel characters. Things that feel like they wouldn’t have been included in the game otherwise and really are just a bonus for people who are fans of these franchises. I get wanting to make an expansion that appeals to as many people as possible, so therefore including a variety of characters. But there’s no reason Eve or Gaston or Rapunzel couldn’t be in the main game. So it feels like a bit of a rip off to now have them behind a paywall. Especially since many of them have already been teased for the main game (particularly Rapunzel and her tower which have been in multiple trailers).

I believe they moved in the right direction but yes they should have been more transparent. I am so thankful they’re including founders with the gold item cosmetics no matter the tier. That is so amazing of them. I cannot wait to get the dlc. It’s reasonably priced and I am so excited. I’m glad they’re thinking about the longevity of the game. I really do think free to play could have hindered that. Valley talk is going to be popping with all the tea!!!

I was one of the people who was waiting for FTP but I had a feeling that it really wouldn’t be. I didn’t purchase the game when it came out because I thought it was too much money for me at the time, especially since it was running so crappy on the Switch. I had the opportunity to watch my favorite streamers (you being one of them) play the game and give their reviews and decided it really wasn’t something I wanted to play. So for me I’m glad I waited because it would have totally been a waste of money. Yes Disney should have said long ago that the FTP aspect was not going to happen, so those who were waiting for that could have made the decision to buy or not buy and enjoy the game with the community. I totally understand, they are making money from a large portion of the people buying the extra customizations and that is what is allowing them to continue providing updates. Seriously would you choose not to make money when you can? I’m happy for all the fans of this game because nothing really changes for you and you’re being rewarded for your loyalty from playing from the beginning. To this day I don’t watch any content from the game and I don’t miss it. 😊 Have fun everyone!

I gave up on DDV a while ago, when I got sick of being essentially unpaid support, since they didn't seem to have enough support staff, and I was constantly in the Discord helping people out. The attitudes of some people there were pretty rough too. They seem (to me) to not be honest, or to keep their word, and I can't get behind that.

Hey K, I know I've been absent from the community for a long while. I ended up being let go from my job, they did not want to accommodate my physical and medical limitations and to add insult to injury they used all the times I was out sick (due to my health, which is documented as well as my double hip replacement surgeries) as their justification to push me out so to say things haven't been going great is a vast understatement. As for this announcement, I was one of the people who bought the top tier game bundle, so to me I feel like this expansion pass(?) should be a little on the cheaper side for those of us who have been playing early access. I don't know, it could just me but I'm very big on companies showing appreciation for loyalty. It could just be me, but in that case it should be five or ten dollars cheaper, then going forward charge the stated price for other future packs/passes. I'm sure some would say "we're getting the gifts for free". To be fair, I would pay full price in exchange for more moonstones because to me, that would be what I would look forward to more🤷‍♀

As someone who dropped a 50 spot on the Cozy today I can already tell you I didn't want to spend $70 more no matter how many moonstone they included. (15k is a lot but I got my ultimate founders Edition with 20k moonstone on sale for like $45 so nope didn't want to buy yet another) will I buy the expansion, yep probably.

I'm a Disnerd( Disney Nerd) and I have been hooked ever since, it is all I play. To anyone who is on the fence about buying the game... do it, you won't regret it.

I was honestly dreading it going free-to-play, because I knew once they do they'll ramp up the microtransactions. Some games thrive on being FTP, like Fortnite. But DDV is not Fortnite, at least not in popularity. You say "Fortnite" to a nongamer and they'll have at least heard of it. Most of my gamer friends have never even heard of Dreamlight Valley. I think if the player base was to go up to the point there are alot of people buying microtransactions they could safely go FTP. However, I don't have a problem with paying for the expansion pass. By the looks of it, it isn't a small update, so it seems fair to pay for it. Plus, it's not too expensive. Day one player, and I'm so excited to see what the future holds for this game!

You say that like there isn't already a ton of microtransactions already in the game. To be fair, they did start giving away a lot of moonstones and it has improved, but it isn't like they are going to stop adding new dream bundles and shop items, just because the game is paid now.

Literally everything is paid content except for the default options. They can get away with that because of how astronomically popular they are. Dreamlight Valley is nowhere near that level of popularity. As such, I think they have a reasonable amount of microtransactions. It's not to the point where I feel like I'm missing out on anything because I didn't buy some skin or something. Again, $30 for the expansion is also reasonable because it sounds like it'll practically double the game so it's not just adding a couple characters and outfits.

My only gripe with it not being free to play is that: 1- I'm playing on a switch and it's hard to decorate. I was hoping for free to play, so that I could continue on my computer (Mac). 2-I was really hoping for ftp so that I could get the extended item limit. I didn't think paying for the game twice was fair to my pockets, so I was holding out. Also, not to mention the glitches/crashes. 3-If they're going back on their word now, what else will they go back on their word with???

i just wish they would have said that from the beginning, would have been better to be paid and then free to play like the sims instead of backtracking. honestly i want a ddv MAJOR update before december 5th, between difficulties decorating, the camera, etc there's a lot of base things that i hope they address before allowing the expansion. I think the bottom line was they were not making enough money to continue the work. I purchased the game when it came out, and I've spent zero money on it since. The star path pays for itself if you complete it. I have all of the house skins and other premium items I wanted. Thank you very much dreamsnaps. Thirty bucks for another year long SL does not bother me at all. I pay $10 a month for another game I play, which is much more. I can't wait for the update!

We can't really know that. All we really know, is that they want more money. Do they want more money because they weren't making enough? Do they want more money because it was less than they projected? Or do they want more money because they just want more money and think they can squeeze players for it? I don't feel they are at all transparent enough for us to know the real answer to that.

tbh i never expected it to be ftp. disappointed for those waiting and unable to purchase the game. i feel there are too many bugs in the game to leave early access at this point. for example, i placed the cocoa stand and can’t remove it from my house or my frozen biome. i just hope that they continue to fix the problems as they release new paid content instead of just focusing on the paid aspect. will i purchase dlc? that will depend on how i like the first dlc. there’s a lot riding on this game for me. i won’t have any hesitation to quit playing if certain levels of expectations aren’t met.

Wow i have to say, i watch a good amount of tubers that mainly talk about DDLV and you are the only one that point out the good that the company did too and not just focus in on the bad. I notice a lot of people tend to forget the good when something they dont like comes along. You hit the nail on the head with give a negative with a positive. Vers just coming out 2 months ago and saying hello all,no free 2 play coming now, have a great weekend. Lol. I will say that the word transparency gets thrown around a lot but we really dont know when things were decided and are just assuming they had to know weeks, month or a year ago. If they told us in June there would still be people saying transparency. So i feel its kinda a losing battle with that. I also was thinking a lot of people think that the company was just sitting on this information. But think of this, think of all the people holding out for F2P. If a company knew they were not going to do F2P (we will say 6months ago), why would they just not say anything? What would the point be to do that? If you spoke up sooner wouldnt more people buy the game 6 months ago knowing now that F2P was not coming now. It would have benefitted them. Thats why i dont really think this was something they knew for a while. They have been crunching number and realized we are not gonna make as much with F2P which i think was smart.

Hey hun! I know I rarely interact but I'm still here 😅 I loved hearing your thoughts on this. I two had mixed emotions. I've been playing The Sims since it's second iteration so I definitely understand pain for base games and then paying for expansion packs. Still, this just comes off as a little shady IMO. Especially since they're still going to be so many microtransactions. I'm going to get back to playing the game because I miss it. I've been building my Sims channel so all my energy has been going there but it really is a cute game and I actually do recommend people buy it. So yeah, I get it.... But there's still a negative undertone to it.

The issue I have is I bought the game on Nintendo thinking it would eventually be free to play so I could download it on Mac for free to be able to decorate while I catch up on the game itself on my Nintendo.. so it bothers me that they weren’t more transparent prior. But even on my Nintendo, the game is just magical, I love this game truly. I’ve made tons of money and it’s not ALL about farming which makes it exciting. I have to pick up where I left off. It does suck it won’t be free though, that’s just it. But I’m ready for the new updates.

I was worried about Free to Play. I thought the attempt to offset the cost would equal tons of micro transactions and the Dreamsnaps would become flooded with new players, making those higher tier rewards harder to reach. I also really felt for any new players entering Dreamsnaps because they would be so behind and really struggle to find required tag items. I do think that making this announcement sooner would have been far preferable, even if it was a month earlier. For example, say you were holding out for free to play and then you hear this announcement, decide to jump in now because you figure there is no use waiting any longer, our starpath is ending in days and it would be basically impossible for a new player to finish in time, so they lose yet another Starpath. I also wish they would re-evaluate their stance on not bringing back Starpaths. Previously I played Love Nikki that had events basically constantly, one new and then one old, so that new players got a shot at those older items. I understand that some things will always be exclusive like founders items and Candy Croc, but Starpaths have so many items and with Dreamsnaps, you will be inundated with items that you just never can have. Even if they wanted to go to one and done Starpaths in the future, I feel like giving people a shot at those early access Starpaths would be a good idea to gain good will. Especially since, as much as I was dreading Free to Play, it still makes me uneasy that the company has gone back on their word. More concessions for players at this time can only be a good thing.

Great video, K! I was disappointed to read that it will no longer be F2P; especially for those who were waiting to play. On the other hand, I totally get Gameloft's decision. With the introduction of DreamSnaps, they had to have seen a drop in the purchases of moonstone packs. Also, I feel like the price of Premium shop bundles and DLCs would be way more if the game went F2P. I'm looking forward to the expansion pack and will be keeping an eye out for it to go on sale right around release time.

I was going to start playing it on my laptop once it went free to play. Part of me isn't too heartbroken over it not being free to play as I totally understand with inflation etc why it had to change. I think with it not going free to play the cost of things with moonstones needs to come down Massively!! In Canada to get enough moonstones to do a few things we're paying $150 for any few majors things together. So if it needs to keep being paid moonstones need to be cheaper.

Agree with everything you said. As someone who held off, I’m disappointed by how long it took for them to announce the change regarding free to play. I can absolutely see the advantages to sticking with paid only, changes are allowed to happen. It just didn’t need to take a year. The expansion sounds exciting. My biggest gripe remaining is that moonstones and micro transactions are still wayyy too much for my liking considering we’re now all paying for the game and expansions. They’re officially monetising every aspect of a game we have all bought at this point. No one should be missing out on items at all, they should just be part of missions or whatever.

Transparency is 100% the issue. In the beginning, we were all so thankful with how honest they were, how much they were communicating and listening to the players, etc. But like you said, somewhere they lost all of that. With the way they are giving out moonstones every week, like people wanted, there was no way they could have kept this game free to play. This news didn’t surprise me at all. Kind of surprised how many people are shook haha. It’ll be fine. The base game really isn’t that expensive and with the continuation of updates and items and whatnot they need to be paid somehow.

I strongly believe that the decision to maintain the current pricing model for Dreamlight Valley is the best one. The game developers have done an excellent job so far in ensuring that the game remains fair for all players. The ability to earn moonstones is incorporated into many activities within the game, providing everyone with the opportunity to earn some, even if they cannot afford to purchase them. However, I also believe that moonstones are very expensive, given the number of them you receive. This is why I am not particularly pleased with the price, but at the same time, I appreciate how easy it is to gain them without having to pay. Many people were expecting Dreamlight Valley to be free-to-play for Christmas, but I think that maintaining the current pricing model is the best option for maintaining the game's quality. If the game was free-to-play, there would be more "Pay to win" walls, and the prices of other in-game items would increase even more. I have always anticipated that we would eventually have to purchase DLC, but I am pleased to hear that expansions are the way forward. These expansions will bring full content groups and chunks of story instead of tiny little updates behind big pay walls. In my opinion, the developers have done an excellent job of showing appreciation for those of us who have been playing Dreamlight Valley since the beginning. The inclusion of items from the gold edition, as well as some extra moonstones, goes a long way in making us feel valued. Legacy players have had the opportunity to gain many items through all the star paths, one-time events, and giveaways, which makes them unique and unobtainable for new players. Therefore, I believe that this decision is the best for the game as a whole and will match the quality we have all come to expect from Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Honestly, I have to say, I am not really surprised and I kinda get it. I always felt like it was just too big of a game to just be free. I understand completely that they need money to pay for these updates that we receive and will continue to receive in the future, and the moonstones, while they ARE pricey, they are just not enough to achieve that goal. I feel like even more people would be mad if they got the game for free and it just ended where it's at, because while it would be a lot of content for the newcomers, us who have been playing, would be losing out on content if that was just where it ended because we have already made it to this point and they wouldn't be able to pay for anything much further without the funds to do so. With all that being said, I do feel for those who were holding out for it to be free. I saw so many people saying months ago that they could not wait for it to be free so they can play it and for that, I do feel bad, but I would be lying if I said I didn't understand their reasoning for making this ultimate decision. I do think that they made this decision well before they decided to actually announce it and they should have at least given a heads up that they were even thinking about making it a paid game instead. Overall, I feel like there are more positives than negatives to all of this news. This is just my opinion though. Hope you are doing well mama!

I haven’t played in a while. I got a steam deck a few months ago and was waiting for the free to play option so that I could transfer my game from the switch to my steam deck. Does this news mean I need to go and get the steam deck version to be able to pick up where I left off on the Switch?

I am sad about the fact that it won't be free to play because I got people to play this game and they LOVE it but it was down to the fact that it was free to play, I am excited for it and I would prefer quality. They did give and take so I do think it's alright but that being said people who can't afford the price won't get it but they're still giving them something. It's weird because they're no longer going FTP, but they're still monetising the game with microtransactions like it is a FTP game. For example the star paths and premium store. I would expect that from a FTP game but not one that you have to buy.

What bothers me the most about this is that the gaming industry seems to be moving toward over monetized games rather than charging one price. This game reminds me so much of Epic Mickey, which was a wii game. That game was FULL of content and hundreds of hours of game play, and had beautiful graphics, and it only had a one time fee of $40-50. People now are paying that much or more for games that are buggy and incomplete, and they're paying for in-game monetization like moonstones, and they're paying for expansions that should have just been rolled into the original game. It all just feels like a scam, and I think this experience has turned me off of buying more games in early access.

i started playing the game again after a long needed break and its so fun. im not surprised it wont be free to play but i dont think that means it never will be. its coming to apple arcade and im very excited about that. after much reflection i realized i dont care much about the microtransations, including the starpath (ive had to buy moonstones just to play it and didnt think it was worth it) the only things i would care about are expansion packs, which i dont mind paying 30 dollars for. im still playing in switch so the only thing im worried about is not being able to increase the item limit. i wonder what the item limit will be on apple arcade and how it will work when switching through platforms. we’ll see, i guess.

Mixed emotions. Paid game only- that’s fine. It makes me feel better about caving and buying into early access honestly. Upcoming content looks pretty cool- I’m a casual gamer (and I restarted once or twice or more), so I haven’t come close to exhausting what we already have, but I’m still excited to see it. Full release and not FTP but still buggy for so many players and with micro transactions for premium currency only products BESIDES the paid DLC… that’s a bitter pill to swallow. I can’t remember who brought it up or if it was in relation to DDV or another game, but someone commented that it becomes a fine line having micro transactions for cosmetic items when decorating IS a core mechanic of the game. The house skins I kind of get because they now act as a whole other house. With the sims, even the stuff packs have *some* impact beyond cosmetic because it would affect a sim’s environmental happiness or they could interact with it or their hygiene would improve more/faster compared to an equivalent item. That doesn’t seem to translate to item mechanics in DDV.

I don't think this is a transparency issue per se, I think this is a reaction-the result of watching how Disney Speedstorm was basically transformed into Disney Sh**storm disaster when it went free to play and they know DDV is an exceptional special game and they didn't want the same to happen. I am truly sorry for it not being F2P because this game is a truly special game and I feel for you, really, but I think this is a direct consequence of Speedstorm. I will continue to play and support this game in any way I can afford because it brings me joy and it is a beautiful escape from real life. And to end this, it is pronounced "kah-pee-bahrah"

But F2P games can and often get predatory, so hopefully this is the right move by Gameloft in the long run.

From my understanding you should get the gold items if you have the base game in early access from what I understand. Because the founders pack were the three packs they released for early access I believe.

I don't mind paying 60-70 upfront for a game, I don't mind paying for expansions ala the sims, I care about the transparency and trajectory of this game, so many other "free to play" games have gone down this same road, the company claims one thing and then after the game has a player base there are price increases, then you pay for cosmestics, then you pay for new worlds and quest, then game mechanics, and soon you're paying for both a tripple AAA game AND in-game 'free to play' content, I love this game and I'm looking forward to the new expansipn, but I'm not surprised and I won't be in the future as DDV looks more and more like a game with a tripple AAA price tag with free to play mechanics...I just want to enjoy my dreamsnaps and gardening in peace.

The sad thing is that it's really not a premium game experience or ready to leave early access especially on switch. I got the ultimate at launch but didn't really play more than the starpaths until recently so I'm behind in quests. I'll wait to catch up or for a sale on the dlc.

I agree completely, I’m not mad about the pivot but I would like more transparency. I would like them to spell out exactly what updates we can expect to be free. I also feel if they are doing a sims model then they need to release a lot more content with the dlc. I’m willing to pay for the sims because of the content I get with it. I wouldn’t pay $40 for a stuff pack in the sims & this is no different.

If I can continue to pay for the premium shop items through dreamsnaps winnings, I am a happy camper. My only worry is how many free updates will be per expansion and how often they release new expansions. I'm hoping it's an annual thing -- I would be more than happy with paying once a year to play this awesome game!

For people who already have the game, the news is mostly good. That said, I feel really bad for people who were waiting and now get slapped in the face with $40-70 price tag. Also a Release Day DLC in a game with microtransactions is not a good look. For people who have been playing it, we are getting a new expansion but for new people joining on release it just looks like the game released with a DLC. The expansion is going to have to be really good, to negate some of this bad publicity.

They kept saying it was gonna be free to play but now it isn’t. They keep saying main story content won’t be behind a paywall but how do we know that won’t change too? What even constitutes as the main story? Is it just the forgotten storyline? Will future star path quests have tasks that will involve characters from the paid DLC to complete it? That would put more pressure on players to purchase it. I’ll wait and see what they say on the 1st. I’ll buy the expansion because I only bought the base game but I bought it twice because it was unplayable for me on the Switch (I wish I could get a refund for it). I feel for those who decided to miss out on exclusive star path items believing the game would be free on release. I also have concern for Switch players with their item limited and whether the same limit will apply to the DLC or if it would have a separate item limit.

The star path is an interesting question. The fact of the matter is I could see them including the expansion characters in the star path, or even having a separate star path just for people with the expansion. In fact, you would kind of expect it right? If you are dropping $30 on the expansion, then you would want the expansion to have a major impact on the game, like being included in the star path. So why wouldn't they do that?

I keep seeing so many comments like, " No FTP means less expensive micro-transactions ." The game still has a lot of expensive transactions for a casual gamer who dropped a lot of money to help the game along at the start and does not have the time to play a game every single day. The game is still full of bugs right up to launch date, the decorating controls on switch are horrible, and it keeps crashing and deleting the data even though it said it saved many times. If there was ever a chance this was not gonna be FTP then say so from the start, I would have got the pc version instead! Also the DLC is to expensive for content that may not even be worth the price of a whole game! Is it going to be like the character worlds where they might be fifteen minutes worth of content then you just go back to look at the pretty sights? Will there be a resource you grab quickly and then leave? Will there be regular content you can not achieve without the DLC? I have played many games where the DLC introduced content worth being sold at full game price at half the price of this DLC. Also am I to believe not many people are spending money on the micro-transactions that are a big part of this paid game? Really?

I sincerely hope they don't lock characters and/or content behind a paywall. I have little issue with the quest packs they did for Wall E and Ursula - nice to have, but not really necessary. But let's say they introduce a major character like Snow White as a paid DLC, I think that will upset a lot of people.

In my opinion, it could go 2 different ways. 1. It could be similar to Elder Scrolls Online in that it releases jaw dropping new dlcs and content but the prices for each are around 30 to 60 dollars. 2. It could go the route of Fallout 76 in that, yes, you buy the base game but all of the dlc and updates are free. That unfortunately means a drop in quality. Lackluster content every say 2 or 3 months that just adds a tiny bit here or there. That's the unfortunate reality of gaming. Sounds like they're trynna appease both sides and I don't know if that'll end well. Edit: I do realize i'm comparing DDLV to 2 mmos lol. But I think it's a fair comparison given how the pricing for each is set up. If you disagree, that's fine.

Hello! I'm fairly new to all of this, and I feel a bit overwhelmed with all of these new informations/changes. (I'm really sorry.) Like many others, I have been waiting for the official release. 🥺 I have been missing a whole year of gaming experience and now I wonder, if a new player will be able to get access to all of these early access items as well (especially these during seasonal/temporary missions). Did they mention anything about it? Will they return at some point? I don't really care about the different packs, though. I just want to clarify this for sure. In the end, it would feel really frustrating if you were missing out some stuff. I consider purchasing the game, but I am really worried about the potential item loss. If someone could provide me some further information, I would be grateful. 🙏

Hi! So sorry that you waited and then are dealing with this change! I feel for individuals like you in this situation. Maybe I can provide some clarification to help! To start, you can still purchase the game between now and Dec. 4 and receive the gold edition exclusive items which include the flower cottage, overalls, and capybara. Unfortunately, no matter which edition you buy and when, you will not be able to get any of the items from the previous items from the past Star Paths. Those do not come back around. You will be able to participate in any of the new Star Paths that come after you purchase though. If you want any of the items in the Premium Shop then you can get those even if they aren’t in this weeks shop currently. The items in the shop do come back around. I hope this helps. I’m sorry you missed out on the Star Paths waiting on the game to go F2P. That suckkksss. I will say if you are still debating on purchasing the game, I would say go for it because it’s still worth it in my opinion!

I’m honestly really happy that it won’t be free to play. I do believe it should’ve been mentioned sooner but it really would’ve turned the game and community into something completely different. But I do like that they’re telling everyone now so that they can get the base game now for fairly cheap and then still get the moonstones and items from the gold edition when the game leaves early access. That’s pretty good value for money, and a decent way to welcome new players and then ones who have been waiting for free to play. I wanted to get the cozy pack because while I bought the game a year ago I just started playing 2 weeks ago, not even. So I don’t have the cottage house skin and I wanted the raccoons but I’m glad we’re getting the cottage with the gold edition when the game leaves early access. So if we already have founders packs, we have to pay for the expansion pass right? I know it’s included with the editions that can be purchased once the games leaves early access and I know we’re getting the gold edition items but that doesn’t include the expansion pass right?

7:04 I've been seeing that opinion a lot - that people assume the company held out on the f2p info purposefully and I just dont get that? To me, I think that they did give us the information at the correct time. They didn't jusy say "oh btw no f2p" they ensured that in delivering that information the community can see other deliverables from the game and give compensation. Is it that the community wanted a play by play of how they came to that decision? I dont think we're entitled to that. Personally, I dont think there was any "sooner" time to share this. Just my 2 cents.

It has helped me with my anxiety through a tough year. Secondly I want new content and new characters so if that means a paid game so be it, I'm OK with it. Me personally, I’m happy it’s not going F2P, but I can understand peoples disappointment. For all of the content coming in the expansion, $30 isn’t that bad when compared to what other games charge for less. I’m happy they are giving the gold edition cosmetics to early access people, it feels like it was worth getting founders packs. My only con is the cozy edition, it doesn’t seem necessary. I’m excited for the future of the game. Just hoping that the team is a little more transparent in the future.

Honestly the cozy edition and the higher priced founder editions seemed like a huge waste. They are kind of for people who have a lot of money to spend. The cheapest founder edition turned out to be a great value though, especially if you got it early and did all the star paths and stuff.
