I've read from one of the Expanse crew that Jane was absolutely in love with The Expanse universe and his place in it, and on his last shooting he made an entire speech thanking the crew for the wonderful art they created together. The entire show reeks that the people who were working on it loved what they were doing.

I don't normally binge shows, but I flew through The Expanse in a week. My wife wasn't watching it at the time, but she walked in the room on this episode right at the part where Miller walks in on Julie. I screamed at her "If you are gonna watch this show ever DO NOT come in here right now!" 😂 I got to the end of season 3 before she decided to give it a go, I paused at the end of 3 and rewatched it from the beginning with her so we could both see what happens after season 3 lol.

Beautiful reaction to a beautiful episode. The writers took their time with fifteen episodes to build this moment. I've lost count how many times I've watched this.... it still gets to me. What an amazingly written, directed, acted show! Dawes told Miller he hadn't lost everything, but when he did he would see what matters most, clearly for the first time and it would welcome him home. Miller told Naomi that he sees Julie and knows she isn't there but she takes his hand and says you belong with me. We all cried... but he finally found Julie. All I will say is this won't be the last time you will need tissues. Looking forward to the next one!

Yes, crying along with you as this is such a beautiful episode. Miller found his way home with Julie. Avasarala defended her home the best she could. The Roci crew were ready to sacrifice their home to save Earth. So much heroism. And I loved that the bird affected you too. For whatever reason, the protomolecule likes the bird, an ancient species related to the dinosaurs, and seems to use it for some type of non verbal communication. I always found that profound and beautiful even if I could not understand it.
@Shawn_M
@Shawn_M Жыл бұрын
I think the bird was like a signal between Miller and Julie. I always thought that the proto-molecule had some quality or trait that existed outside of time. Julie saw an image of Miller and the bird as she was dying, even tho she'd never met him. Miller saw flashes of Julie after he got irradiated on eros, even tho he never met her. He told Naomi that he saw her clearly, taking his hand and telling him 'you belong with me' which happened in the end. And they were both eventually infected by it, tho at different times. It's like their fates were somehow intertwined by the PM. Like the universe was telling each of them that they would meet and they would need each other.
@MegMageReacts
@MegMageReacts Жыл бұрын
That is gorgeous. I think it affected me mostly because I grew up believing birds were deceased loved ones coming to check on us and protect us. Little signs that they're still around, and that you're on the right path. But now I'm crying again thinking about the protomolecule using the bird image for guidance.

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Master calls a butterfly" is a quote from the Richard Bach book "Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah". In the book it's attributed to a fictional book of maxims called The Messiah's Handbook. It's basically about putting faith in something greater than yourself and hoping everything will work out, even if you can't see it. It's not really clear if Estabon is being sincere or sarcastic imo.

The focus on science, on physics, on understanding the way the grounded universe of the Expanse works... is so that when the Protomolecule starts ignoring the rules, you really understand just how terrifying it is for the cast. "Can you believe a guy like me would believe in something?" Damn, that line is heartbreaking. A would be tough guy, a hard-bitten noir detective, laying his heart open. Letting himself be vulnerable. Amazing writing, amazingly acted.

Three things stand out to me when I watched this episode. One the bird. Have you ever read the poem Ode to a Nightengale by John Keats? The bird guides the seeker to his beloved. And for the journey love alters the poet permanently. The second is Miller fed Julie the nuke. If you notice she got a lot stronger after he did that and the nuke shut down. He earned her trust. The kiss was completely unscripted. I think Florence Faivre (Julie) talked to Thomas Jane and she initiated that. Last the scene with Christian and her husband got me more than the Julie/Miller scene. The idea that you’ve built your life with someone and now you have to watch them die. Thanks

The psudo-gravity on Eros is only 1/3rd G, a comfortable gravity for Belters. Similar on Ceres. As Miller is a belter, from Ceres, the gravity on Eros feels normal to him.

Eros hitting Earth would have almost certainly set off the near destruction of humanity. There would likely be just enough stuff out on Mars and the floating in the Belt that they could scrape together some kind of ecosystem but that's assuming Mars could get along with the Belters long enough to do even that.

After s01e08, after all this suspense to find Julie, and we just find her dead… it was gut wrenching. I was so sad and confused and wondering where this series was going to go. Also, as for reading the book, you may not want to start reading yet. I think most will say once you finish book 2 in the show, then it’s a good time to start book 1. It’s just season 1 is kinda sorta a blend of the first two books. I don’t want to say more than that.

For sure if someone wants no show spoilers the books probably should come a few season behind. For me I wasn't as worried so between season 1 and 2 I read everything that had been published to that point, and so I had some ideas what Season 2 had in store but it was still awesome.

I love how mostly nobody starts out liking Millier, but then he grows on you like a fungus you can't get rid of (something he would say). Thomas Jane created one of the most memorable and iconoclastic characters in Sci-Fi, and when you go back and rewatch you can see how much he put into making a solid through-line... and part of that is being a bit unlikable on the surface, abrasive, brash, uncool, and full of a borderline rockabilly arrogance.
