So fun fact: there’s actually a deleted scene where it shows the giant dreaming and his dreams transmit to Dean’s TV. In it, it shows that he was from a race of literal thousands of giant war robots that went from planet to planet and destroyed them. Dean catches glimpses of it himself on the TV and is kind of terrified from it before the giant ends up waking up, yelling in a panic. Not sure why they got rid of it. Might’ve been too dark or removed a lot of the mystery of what the Giant was. Edit: I owned a VHS copy for years that didn’t include this scene, so it sounds like it was included in more recent releases of it like BluRay, so forgive me for my ignorance to that fact.

@@justanicemelon9963 It is a beautifully animated and creepy scene, especially with the look of terror on Dean’s face and the somewhat justification for his eventual blow up in the junkyard towards the giant. Two reasons why I think he works: 1. He isn’t some nut job, that nobody believes when talking about monsters or aliens. He literally starts off, not taking the job that seriously, only for the worst things to happen to him, which forces him to try to convince himself to believe that the Giant is real, which the creators managed to pull off quite early. And it makes it all the more funnier that nobody ends up believing him as even he thinks he’s going crazy. 2. While, he may sound like a dude just throwing threats around to get what he wants out of people, it’s not like he comes empty-handed. The scene where he interrogates Hogarth and threatens to take him away from his mother has some truth to it, when looking back. Kent has evidence that links Hogarth to the power station accident and he could probably find something to pin Hogarth at the train wreck. But if word got out that these incidents were caused by a child, the town may start throwing concern to where the child’s parents were in all this. Even Annie testified to Kent that Hogarth was out that night. With this in mind, the ultimatum becomes more clear. Hogarth can take the blame for the Giant’s recklessness, which may cause the public to look down upon him and his mother, leading for him to be taken away. Or he chooses to reveal where the Giant is.
