Update: KCC now has a yearly payment model (but the advice in the video still holds up!)

*Correction: In the video, I use Adonis Gang as an example of a paid monthly community, but it's now free (it was a paid feature when the video was being produced). Just want to clarify this detail if anyone's confused by it. Thanks for watching 🙏

Is this sustainable though?

Probably not

It's no more sustainable than a company that earns its income by selling a product to a consumer once and then having to onboard new customers going forwards. Is it less ideal than lower-ticket recurring revenue? Sure (although the more nuanced answer would be: that depends on what you prioritize i.e., community or sales?) But it isn't impossible. Lots of companies, since the dawn of business time have been selling a single high-ticket item once and then selling to new customers after that. As long as Kaal is making quality KZbin vids (which isn't something he struggles with), there will always be traffic towards KCC and therefore new members and more sales.

Where are the long term studies 😂? This just seems like a fancy upsell-you’re getting the full/beyond lifetime amount from people who would probably cancel after a year. What will compel individuals that have completed their “arc” to stick around and help new members? Are they getting paid ? Probably not. I think it’s a clever way to front-load earnings but the community building preachiness is a bit disingenuous.

We don't have long-term studies per se, but we have a lot of members who are happy with the community experience (as seen in reviews of KCC, and peoples discussions within the community regarding its quality). As mentioned in the video, the fact that this is a 1x pay is quite refreshing for the buyer, in a world where most online communities are indeed subscription based. It certainly would be a strange "upsell" because if people would stay a year, it would cost north of $1,000, but if they opted instead for this "upsell" from the jump, they'd be spending less than $1,000. People stick around because they want to - it's as simple as that. We can't force people to be active, nor do we pay them to do so. People come for the creator and stay for the community. Not to mention the fact, that there'll always be new courses, guides, live lectures, and discussions to be had. A successful online community business and an excellent community aren't mutually exclusive (you can have both at the same time). On top of that, my explanations aren't disingenuous at all i.e., community is important (I don't think anyone would argue against that). Plus, I don't earn a commission from any KCC membership sales, so my "preachiness" regarding the importance of community and community building comes from a place of actually wanting to impart interesting advice regarding community management and building. This is a subject that interests me.

There’s always more room for community builders/managers/creators. I believe it’ll be a growing niche in the coming years with more and more content creators monetizing through paid private online communities!
