@huntah615013 сағат бұрын
Will be a really cool thing. I haven't heard of many movies from Africa besides Who Killed Captain Alex, and that in my opinion is an example of great filmmaking. Not per say the quality, but the passion, the director saved up for a 200 dollar camera and shot it all locally. The talent, the ambition, its all there just need someone to capture it and bring it to a wider world audience
@darrylferguson36228 сағат бұрын
While i disagree that the film industry in the African continent is non-existent (it just isn't global like Hollywood), it is great to see Idris Elba being willing to highlight and help elevate it. The awesome thing is that he recently visited Ghana and went on a sort of tour of the NGO's there, so he isn't just throwing his money at any random charity

A tiktoker had done more marketing compared to how Disney marketed their original ips made by Africans. I am referring to *Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire* it sadly they came out the same year as Little Mermaid live action movie. And You know Disney loves the pointless live action remake.. There is also *Iwájú* it came February this year but not much people talk about the cartoon. Aside the controversy about people not liking the cartoon for being CGI.
@agx84476 сағат бұрын
As a white Canadian guy, I’ve been saying this for a while now. So many people in Hollywood preach about inclusion and representation, yet we only ever get stories in western countries. Africa is the oldest continent in the world and has an absolutely massive wealth of history just waiting to be told, yet we basically never get any African stories and the ones we do are gross misrepresentations of history used to further western ideals and politics (I.e. woman king). This is some of the best news for the film and storytelling industry as a whole and I legitimately can’t wait to see what comes of it.

An African film I'd recommend people to watch is Who Killed Captain Alex. That film was what got me into watching foreign language films. It's a cheap low budget movie that's ridiculous on the outside but actually brilliant on the inside when you dive deep into it. One of the best low budget movies I've ever seen.

I actually think this is the best way to go about diversifying and making global media then just check listing ethnicities in Media this way real people from different regions can get represented and tell their own stories rather than trying to change legacy media which has a following to fit a diverse audience.
