18:17 for anyone curious about the infield fly rule, if there's runners on first and second base, and the batter hits a popup in the infield it's an automatic out whether or not it's caught. I believe the reason for the rule is that if the infielder drops the ball on purpose, the runners would have to advance, which basically makes it a guaranteed double play, since the infielders are all so close to the bases

Biggest misconception about the rule is the fact that it's about whether an *infielder* is able to easily make the catch on the fly, not whether the ball is going to land in the "infield." An infield fly can (and should) be called when the ball is in what some would call the "shallow outfield" as long as *an infielder* happens to be positioned there waiting for the ball to fall there. There is no barrier that defines the "infield" and "outfield" (not even the infield dirt on a typical baseball field); it's all on the umpire's judgement. That said, yes, the purpose of the rule is to protect the offense from hitting into a cheap double play. Without this rule: If the runners don't move, then the infielder that's under the ball can let the ball fall on purpose and then has plenty of time for the defense to make two throws for two easy force outs. If the runners do start running during such a fly, then the infielder can make the catch and has all the time in the world to throw to a base for a tag-up out that the runner is required to run back to. It's the kind of rule that screams "rule patch late in the development of the invention of baseball" lol
