Im a teen, and i absolutely love your channel. My mom and I deep cleaned my bedroom a couple months ago, and i rearanged my bedroom so i could see more of the floor. I found out that i have hoarding tendencies because I have both Autism and ADD. I keep things for projects and completely forget I have them. With my room being cleaned ive found ive been doing a lot better, and these videos keep me aware of what i do and dont need. I appreciate you sharing your journeys as you clean :D Edit: Thank you everyone for your kind words and relatable stories. It's nice hearing that I'm not crazy and that other people struggle with things just like I do. Lately I have been pretty alright with keeping my floors mostly clean, but I'm dealing with an overload of clothes, most of which I do wear. I also have a tendency to not wash clothes for a long time because I have so much, so I basically end up scrounging for any pants I can find by the end of the month. Hopefully my new medication and some better scheduling and storage will work.

I always remember watching an episode of Hoarders, where the guys house was far worse than this, and the therapist asked him what 5 items he would grab if his house was on fire. You're a saint. My mom passed six years ago and though her house was very clean and uncluttered looking, it was because she managed to cram everything into closets, under the bed, the garage, etc. Her hobby was buying in bulk and I also found things from the time of my childhood that she kept like old pots and tools. Needless to say - I treasured most of it and now my house looks like a second hand store. I have a lot from my grandmother too. Wish me luck, as I now understand most of it will have to go away and free my mind and house. PS. I would call myself a collector of memories, but I have to move on.

The stuff you said at the 6-minute mark just hit me. My partner's family is in that scenario. Hoarding is mostly mom's fault, but then a single sibling has added to the hoard, MOVED OUT, and left their hoard, so it's a combo hoard. The other siblings are minimalist as heck, they all thought they had a ton of stuff until they moved out and realized they own basically nothing and keep a tidy house. I'm cleaning my partner's half of the house right now and they live bare bones, even more so now after we clean the leftover sibling hoard. Other items siblings want but can't physically reach because of the hoard. There's an entire sewing desk under all the hoard that is useful, valuable, and wanted and nobody can reach it.

Thank you for explaining the different type of preppers! I am a prepper, and had a stockpile of 18 months realize that that was too big for my household and we’ve wiggled it down to a manageable three month stock up! Mainly in case, anything happens with a job loss or if the winter is too bad, and we can’t get out will be all right! I have done the Swedish death cleaning four times in order to get rid of most of the things in my house, and I was able to downsize by 85%! If we don’t like it love it or use it it went out of the house no questions asked! We now have a much more easy manageable house. It’s not a minimalistic way, but it’s minimal lysing my way and clean up now is super easy to clean the house and maintain it! I don’t have a lot of clothing anymore. We got rid of a bunch of it. I never was in a hoarding level but I was in a level that it was hard to keep the house clean because I had three babies in diapers at the same time! And I over bar on things such as their baby clothing and baby toys, and things of that nature my kids are now teenagers and it’s much more manageable to keep things in check! Absolutely love what you do. Hope that you get to feeling better soon.

I am a prepper too but not to that extent but after living in the same house 28 years and having a husband who saved stuff and sadly just passed away today I am keeping myself busy by starting to throw away bags and bags of stuff and getting totes from my sister in the next few days to list on ebay or FB Marketplace things that are not useful. I can't believe I've filled up 2 garbage cans already. We have a lot of items that are now "Vintage" that my husband hung on to "Just in case" I won't blame it all on him but it's definitely time to get rid of things that are not being used. He told me when I'm gone you can do what you want with it. My sister will come over and help me clean once we get everything out of here.. it's not hoarder stacked for sure but way to much for a small 672 square foot house. And I have enough food to last probably a year now with it just being me and my dogs. Anna In Ohio

Take care, Two-Tub Power Lifter Johnny from Austin ☮️ I watched a UK show on hoarding where a woman transferred her mothers entire hoard to a warehouse! She sorted it by type (shoes, clothes, kitchen, mementos, furniture, etc) with a mountainous trash pile in the corner (wrappers, empties, food etc) She then cleaned, repaired, painted her mothers home so it was sound, empty and functional. When her mother saw the enormity of the hoard as well as her home as she’d not seen it in some time, it was very powerful. It was the most radically transformative, productive method I’ve ever seen regarding a hoarding situation. Usually the hoarder puts up resistance and every item has to be touched and gone over, it seems excruciating for all involved! I wish the Dr Pepper Hoarder all the very best on her journey 🕊

I have a rule in my own house, if an item is stored for 6 months and not used, touched, or brought out, then it’s not worthy of my space and has got to go. It took me a lot of years to get to this point, but I am just not willing to take up my space with stuff that means nothing. I truly wish her luck in her therapy.😊

Here's Jonny! Take care buddy! If the house has a crawl space or basement, the homeowner can get a carpenter or a specialist to come in to jack up the bad beam with a floor jack. Depending on how bad it is, the jack might do the job and stay in place. Otherwise, a new beam, of course, needs to be "sistered" or put next to the bad one. That's easier and cheaper than pulling the beam. I'm sketching it out so you can give her an idea. My Grandpa's house had a couple of bad floor joists, so Dad and his brother did this for him. Thankfully, Grandpa wasn't hoarding, just an old house!

To the family in this video- you can do it. You. Can. Do. It. You can start picking out the most favorite beautiful things and start setting some items free. I have been in a place where life was so stressful I would come home and barely manage basic tasks. Then as family members passed away, items came to my place to sort. Then we didn't know my grandpa's house also had my mom's things that relatives took as I was young when she passed. There also was a mystery storage unit. It can be incredibly overwhelming and there are times where you say screw it. You have a great resource with MMC, you all can keep at it, bit by bit. Big hugs!

Mr. Magic, God Bless You. The service you provide to people is just incredible. I do hope you are feeling better. I have encountered severe hoarding in my job, over the years, and have some hoarders in my family. One I encountered had a room where you could not enter, it was literally floor to ceiling stuff. It appeared that it got to the point where she just stood in the doorway and chucked stuff into the room. Yes, it is a mental illness and it is much more common than anyone would ever think. Take care and rest up so your shoulder heals.

I just wanted to give a heads up about using brand new bedding without washing it first. When I was in high school we moved to a new house and I got new bedding that I loved. I wouldn't let my mom wash it before putting it on my bed. The next morning I went to school and my arms an legs broke out in a splotchy red rash. It didn't really itch or butn, but I was pretty splotchy. Came home and took a shower, and my mom washed the bedding, and I was good to go. Of course I don't know if everyone would have that reaction, but they use some serious chemical in fabrics and dyes.

I appreciate that you don’t mask the sounds of your video with music. I really like the natural sounds of you cleaning. I enjoy cleaning along while I watch/listen to you. I know most people prefer music but it overstimulates me and makes it difficult for me to think about the tasks I’m doing.

I am sending my best wishes to this courageous person. I hope therapy progresses so that she can get rid of stuff and return to having a calm, peaceful, rejuvenating home. All hoarder homes look like they would make the owner feel overwhelmed every time they looked around, a stressful, depressing, painful way to live. It's wonderful she is brave enough to let you in her house and to make that great leap of faith to go into therapy. All the best to both of you!

I always get angry when people comment - where are the children, why did no one help thos person etc etc. I always have a lot of compassion with the relatives of people that live this way. They are often very, very difficult to be around. This almost never comes out of nowhere and oftentimes children had to suffer because they had to grow up in these situations which makes me really sad. You did an excellent job here and i hope you feel better soon❤
