That engine won't last without a stand alone. I know people say the stock ecu will correct itself, it will to an extent. Throwing a single on there is past that point. I own one, I've done the research. Please don't blow that engine relying on tech from 1993.

This. Chris, please install a standalone, a decent fuel system, and get it tuned. You can't just throw on a turbo and call it done.

Chris. You absolutely need to tune it. You can’t stuff a ton more air in an engine and expect it to run at a proper AFR without calibration. The ECU can only compensate so much.

When I was in high school my mom got a Red 1994 Supra Turbo as her mid-life crisis car. I only got to drive it once but it was amazing (even though it was an automatic). Awesome - you need a Haltech Elite 2500 or similar type ECU to match the turbo kit. Car looking mean now - great work. With the Haltech there is about 25 years or more in development over the stock ECU. Install the Haltech Elite 2500 and tune it with that. You will see a massive difference....the turbo kit you put on the car need it to run correctly. I would also recommend much larger injectors with a fuel rail that has AN Fittings. As you know there is a formula for the duty cycle for the injectors, stock injectors are no where near the size that you need. To get the car to run right with the turbo kit you need large injectors and that Haltech 2500 Elite ecu.

As a long time MKIV Supra owner, 700-800WHP is really manageable with this chassis. After 1000whp is when you start seeing some diminishing returns for street cars, however they handle 1400-1500WHP fine if setup correctly.

Being imported from Japan that car is tuned to their gas which has a higher octane rating than you can get at the pump here. Please get a stand alone ECU and get it tuned before you have detonation and hurt the engine. You will also have much better drive-ability and reliability if you get it tuned properly for what gas you plan on using.
@UKDreXeLmobile2 жыл бұрын
You're going to destroy that engine. You can't expect the stock ECU to compensate for the amount of extra flow you're getting, let alone the fact that your stock fuel system will max out way before your power targets. At the very least you need a standalone, bigger injectors and an upgraded fuel pump. $10k on a turbo kit and half-assing actually tuning the thing is madness. SMDH.

Trevor (motion auto) ran his single turbo drift car on a stock ecu for years with no issues. I think he made 500 on the dyno in one of his videos. A standalone would be better yes, but a stock ecu isn't a death sentence. If a drift car seeing tons of abuse doesn't have a single issue, a street driven supra that's probably going to get hardly any miles put on it is going to be just fine
@TaylorNottz2 жыл бұрын

@@kshepthedrummer I don't watch his videos but I'm gonna say he at least upgraded his fuel system and has a wideband to monitor his AFR. Even ignoring the ECU, the stock injectors and fuel pump just can't flow enough fuel for 500hp. And running bigger injectors with the stock ECU and no tuning will mean it'll run like shit off boost and have terrible drivability.

Very confused as to why you're not running this on a standalone, because having seen you put together some pretty awesome cars, I think you know better. My daily driven car runs on a Link G4+, pump fuel, RB26 with stock ITBs at around 500 HP, no problems with drivability. You're going to run out of injector & fuel pump before you hit 350 HP.

I have a haltech sitting on the table right behind me. Its not that i dont have one, i just dont want to use it on this build. You're very wrong about running out of injector and fuel btw, people hit 500WHP on stock fuel/ecu, i hit 400 on my last 2jz build. The reason im not going standalone and e85 is drivability. It takes forever to tune these to run as well as the stock ecu, and i just dont see the point because i dont want anymore power in the car.
@kaukovainio8472 жыл бұрын
@@BisforBuild Yes but there is a difference between JDM and USDM models. In USDM there is bigger injectors and MAF and that's why people can hit 500whp with stock fuel&ecu. It's impossible with JDM 440cc injectors.

I definitely disagree with the stock driveability aspect of a stock ECU. At this point ECU Masters and haltech and even a.m. Infinity all make ecos that would make it run exceedingly well and still have a ton of drivability. Not to mention the ECU on that thing is 30 years old and known for taking a dump. There is no reason in 2022 to still be running a stock ECU with the piggyback. A $10,000 kit on the car and you're telling me you're not going to properly tune it? That's insane

Chris a stand-alone will make for better drivability vs an old oem ecu. Running that turbo on a stock ecu is more concerning. Regardless of e85 or not, running a stand-alone will insure longer life for that engine. All those parts you installed are un-tunable until you get ecu
