To think all it needed was a processor one generation higher! That's incredible! Did you have to do anything special or did it work just by installing virtual desktop?

@@TheMysticle I think alot of the bad performance comes to the nature of the 845 and windows, no x64 GPU Accel in 845 is probably what is probably making Ur games crash and/or play at terrible performance
@arminas.kersys

@@TheMysticle I tried installing Oculus software, and it failed for me as for you too, so I just moved the already installed Oculus software files from my PC to the phone, and launched the Oculus VR server executable along with Virtual Desktop and SteamVR. I also think that x64 emulation played a big role here, since Snapdragon 845 doesn't have x64 emulation, only x86, as 855 processor does have x64 emulation.

Edit: Oculus software is a buggy mess and airlink launches unreal engine, so it can render basic buttons. I wonder why virtual desktop didnt work, my guess is that video routing to vitual device, its compression and transmit over network, relies on win32 system call, that is not implemented in adreno GPU driver. The internal implementation is very close to miracast specification/requirements, that POCO X3pro supports. Not sure if mi8 supports, casting to tv via wifi (not chromecast). Anyway, thanks for eye-opening video, about phone modding I don't know existed. Original: Oooh, I have 3 of POCO X3pro, all rooted. Should I.... .... No, I'm not that bored 😁 But it's tempting, the phone is able to connect (on android image) to: +2displayport screens +audio +1gb lan +charging =on dell usb-c docking station. And the model is around 130$, used, in europe.... Too bad there isn't a WindowsServer on ARM version... ...OR IS THERE?! Gotta go check

Well, if you want that kind of project, you might wanna try using 2 cpus: 1 arm cpu + 1 APU(cpu)[ that has the same capacity of a 3060] = both in a SBC type motherboard, with the 32gb ram sticks + nvme cards for storage. The only thing missing now is a dedicated cooling & power system. Using a tiny version of windows 10/11 then hooking up a quest vr, then you're good to go. The real problem with this is its too expensive since dual cpu boards are kinda hard to find.

This was actually a really cool video. I just built my own PC so I could kind of follow along with why things were weren't working. Maybe you could look into getting one of those micro PCs. I keep seeing tech KZbinrs make videos about. That would be great for VR stuff. Especially if they are small enough, you could mount them to the head strap of a headset. Watching the video made me wish for a world where Microsoft could make successful Windows phones. But again, if the steam deck or even something like the switch aren't strong enough for a lot of applications than the technology just isn't there yet. But this was such a cool video!

when looking at RAM on a phone and thinking pocket VR. We need to remember that windows 10 if running at 64bit you have to automatically remove 2gb of Ram from what you get. Then you need to check background processes and see what else is taking up some RAM, You get what is left over for VR.

The point isn't renegade resolution. Basically the display driver doesn't support non-nstive resolutions (it doesnt do scaling) The trick is to do what android does and render a lower resolution but upscale. You lower the render scale in the game without trying to changing the display resolution.

think with a custom steamVR executable that it would work as the default steamVR has lots of unnecessary processes (same for oculus etc) .. all that is needed is the compositor and drivers for connectivity … no need for the gui / updater / steam library manager etc. .. i think when someone creates a steamVR lite it would work perfectly fine with virtual desktop.
@Zuggeerr
@Zuggeerr Жыл бұрын
This is possible because Microsoft has made several netbooks with the Snapdragon chipset, also providing drivers, which was necessary to allow it to work on other devices, such as phones with the same chip. One of the Chinese modders created an exploit and started the project. However, many functions do not work, e.g. camera, sound, sensors, etc. also often freezes occur and it is not super stable. As for running x86-64 applications, it is possible by Microsoft itself. The only drawback is that applications developed for regular PCs must run in emulation mode, which greatly degrades performance. Of course native arm apps work like on android, there are few in ms store like asphalt. The biggest problem is the drivers for the ARM version of Windows and many devices do not work at all, such as pcvr. I tried this on my oneplus 6t and all I got is adb and sidequest. I've seen more newer and more powerful phones get their support for the renegade project and the performance is impressive.

One thing you didn't try; a native SteamVR headset. All the failures so far seem to be related to the softwares not finding a familiar encoder to compress video over for the Quest or Pico. A lot of android devices support video out over USB-C, so if you can get a USB-C dock that does USB3 and HDMI or DisplayPort, you may be able to run an HTC Vive or Valve Index out of it.

I'm not sure about the abandoned part, I'm running the latest version of windows here.
