Folks, I was out testing the Custom installed Minn Kota Instinct Quest so this video is short as we were putting the motor through its paces and we wanted to use it in the way we fish to make sure we are ready for our style of fishing. It will require more testing before we can be comfortable with it but so far the spot lock and cruise control are our go to's but the drift is spotty at best but we hope to work that out very soon.
The drift mode needs much more testing but we intend to keep on testing utnil we are satisifed and ready for the next few outtings so bare with us as we play around with the unit and fish will come but learning the modes is priority number one so I can get myself off the helm to help fish on days where there are limited deck hand help.

Folks today's outting priority was to test the Minn Kota features and catch fish as a bonus. We wanted to play with some features that we know will be needed to make our outttings even more eventful. Drifting, Trolling and Dropping down on fish and we intend to incorporate the Minn Kota into the fishing so we can maintain control of the ship during these techniques, Be patient as we put the unit through it's paces and you may see me finally able to get myself out of the helm and helping my guys get some fish in the box. There is more testing to do but the today's effor was to make sure the mount was secure, water tight and that it can handle the crazy waves we often fish in and so far so good, really happy with the install just not the Drift mode which needs to be understood futher and will require more time on the water to tune that and dial it into our fishing day.

It is going to drift you whatever direction the motor is pointed when you hit the drift button. It doesn’t automatically know where the current is going. Point where you want to drift with motor then press it

yes, there are some variables to consider knowing it will attempt to keep the drift going in the direction pointed, it will take some practice while paying attention to the tides and winds to get better at drift mode and interesting angles. We generally like our transom to be directly behind the incoming swells as we drift but found cruise control seems to be more fitting for that purpose, drifting it a crap shoot in the bay but once we turn that on enough to understand what we can expect, we can determine if drift mode is even something we will use or can use with how hard the winds and currents push in the bay area. Its been very hard to keep the rods behind the boat with drifting so far not a huge fan of it yet, needs more time to play with

@@24ksportfishing it won’t hold your boat in a set position unfortunately, example having your transom always behind you. Especially if you try and tell it to slow down the drift. The motor will turn on and push the boat back which will turn the boat. Ocean/bay will be hard to get the boat in a perfect position due to the variables of current/wind/swell. More calm waters like delta/lake will. I’ve used it for months just a matter of getting use to

@@fn799 I believe you are onto something. As I have been testing it out, I notice that cruise control and heading lock seem to keep us about 95% transom behind us so we know it does a briliant job at this effort. Example tides incoming 1MPH and we set heading lock with cruise control a say .5 MPH this has kept us heading in with the tide wind behind us and transom behind us. I notice without this trolling motor, we would definately drift sideways rocking uncontrollably but the motor has kept our transom behind the swell so I think this works beautifully. more testing though but so far its does more for us than not having it at all.

Any problems so far other than the drift mode? Really want one but very skeptical being an early adopter and the horror stories of the ulterra. My local minn not service center said they haven’t sold any and will not stock it until it has proven to be more reliable than the ulterras.

Only time will tell, I have nothing to compare it to, so far so good, have not found any annoying operational issues so far. As the season goes on it will reveal any nuances but I believe drift mode is working just gotta get used to strong tides and winds to understand bow direction during drift so only time will tell
