Such a pleasure to listen to two smart guys, insightful, realistic, agile. Very cool, very inspiring.

Great, I love both of you. And I actually do think, that Lois really should now, after getting all these great advices from experts, try to go on and apply these techniques. Best would be to go kind of similar way like Ben from Refold, so choose a harder one, perhaps not as hard as Japanese, but still hard enough, so it could be more illustrative about how effective certain methods are (for example, Spanish would not be a good choice, as that one is managable pretty much using any technique, getting too much help from all cognates and similar structures). Oh, and when he talks about his strategies, he practically describes a Language Island method. Perhaps you check out Mikel Telleria (Mikel the Hyperpolyglot), too.

"The hardest language is the one you don't want to learn" AMEN! In Middle School I had to learn German and it was a misserable experience. At the time I did not like the language at all and I was struggling to get a passing grade, much less actually learn. Right now I'm learning Russian and the difference is STRIKING! Turns out you learn a whole lot better when you don't have to force yourself to learn and actually enjoy the process. Who knew!

Wow, I could write this exact comment and it would be 100% applicable to my life.

You move to the country the language you want to master. Study it all they long, immerse in it , and after 15-20 years you’ll become fluent. 😎

From 5 to 15 you will be great in the local language. New language from scratch in case of an adult after 15 years will be the same as it was at the beginning.
