I work in a different field (data science; basically just collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and *presenting* data to companies to help solve their problems) but writeups are also pretty common in my line of work. Writeups in my case are generally pretty long (usually around 20-30 pages, around half of which are filled with charts, tables, and graphs) because of all the data that we usually have to visualize and explain. The main reason why i think a lot of people dont like writeups is because we basically have to explain our findings in a way that is easily understood by our client; i.e. even if it's the most basic common knowledge to us data scientists, we have to dumb it down for whoever may read it so they can understand. This is necessary because writeups are documents made for people that you cant verbally explain your findings to, meaning that you have to cover all of your bases and answer even potential questions they may have so that they wont have to follow it up with you to ask for further elaboration. Doing all of that explaining for whatever findings you may have when you've finished your job can get pretty mind-numbing and boring when you have to type it all out in excruciating detail.

Some officially recognized hacking attacks that I learned about for ethical hacking include shoulder surfing and dumpster diving. Aka looking over their shoulder to see them type the password and picking through their garbage to find discarded devices. The weakest link in a network is the human, so that is the most commonly targeted point for an attack.

First job I got out of university was based entirely around supplying confidential reports to customers on a web server. The password for the account that controlled the domain name registry was "[companyname]2014", and if you somehow cracked that impenetrable security you could do pretty much whatever nasty shit you could have easily set up a mock page to skim people's passwords. I was completely dumbfounded when I realised this. There were multi-million dollar contracts

So in Finland we had the largest national databreach 2018-2020 when a psychotheraphy service Vastaamo, a bit like BetterHelp had leak of 30 000 patient records to tor and people extorted because of weak pasword "sjuka66" and "office_location70" and no root user password at all. The attacker allegedly (it is unclear to me if this was ever protected properly with a sensible firewall.) socially manipulated the IT team to open port 3306 for remote access. They were hacked twice and for years they tried covering the mistake.

My step mom used to be a teacher and last year decided to go back to teaching 4th grade last year just to get out of the house some and she hated it, mainly for the parents. Many just act very entitled and complain when their kids have stuff to do, and she admitted one of the main reasons she didn’t return cause this one mom just wouldn’t get off her ass and would try to get other parents on her and they were always like “.. no?” Even the girl she had would try to do it with the other students and the students were always like “huh..? She’s great!” The school has its issues cause it’s a small catholic one so they tend to side with the parents more to keep the students and the money coming, and doing so has a lot of problems (most of the students aren’t being taught on the level they should be, like reading 2nd grade but actually in 4th). But when she left the principle said she has the highest test scores out of everyone. Problematic girl was on the lower side of that, probably would’ve been at the top if she just did the work though

Also for my company, while a lot of teachers are transitioning to administration, they tend to switch to a different school, so they dont even know the other teachers/the kids.

My strange job; I'm an opera singer. I travel around the country (soon the world) and perform at opera houses, as well as sing at concerts and recitals. A lot of the work is done in the rehearsal room (and alone to learn the music), but we only get paid per show so we have to ask a price that's worth all that unpaid time working. My side hustle is counting cards in blackjack, a legal method of playing blackjack the mathematical best way possible. It's like an active investment, you can have volatility in the short term but if you prioritize expected value and minimize risk of ruin in your calculations, you will guarantee profit. Counting cards requires a lot of travel, so instead of booking trips across the country to play blackjack, I just play whenever I travel for my singing gigs. For example, if I have a gig in NYC or LA, I can take a train to Atlantic City or Vegas in my down time in between shows

In Canada, teachers make quite a bit more than teachers in the USA. The middle school teacher said 42000 USD a year and in Canada they usually make 58000-72000 USD a year.

42000 usd is 56000 cad, and when you factor the cost of living difference it’s not much of a difference
