Jesus Christ wants a personal relationship with you through the Holy Spirit, not religion and blind faith. You see, we all have sinned, and have broken God’s law (The Ten Commandments). Wrong doing deserves justice and must be punished (just like how a criminal has to pay for the crime they have committed) but God saved us from the eternal punishment of our sins by sending His Son Jesus Christ, fullness of God in flesh, a perfect, sinless sacrifice to pay the penalty for our sins by dying on the cross and resurrecting, so that we may have everlasting life. It is all finished and now for you to accept the free gift of grace, you must repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ and Bible says that His Blood will cover all of your sins, you will be forgiven, saved from eternal punishment, and be given everlasting life. By faith you will receive the Holy Spirit, become born again, know Jesus personally and He will transform your heart and clean you from the inside out. Turn away from sin, read the Bible, pray for the Holy Spirit to fill you and change you, obey the Word. Much love and God bless you!

I’m originally from Anchorage. I have worked with the homeless shelters there previously. Unfortunately, many times I see that people just don’t want to be helped. Many are chronically inebriated and prefer that life. It’s really sad. I once was driving on Benson Blvd and saw a homeless man dead across from Barnes & Noble. Thank you for covering this, Tyler.

I’m from anchorage. And I couldn’t agree more. And when a lot of them get money from their tribes along with free health care, the overwhelming feeling of “this is fine” is terrible. It makes me really sad. It goes to show that giving an addict money every month leads to this situation.

I’m just assuming - migrant crisis isn’t an issue for Alaska is it ? I mean we had been overrun. We had more migrants than citizens then it got 18 degrees and the next day everyone presumably went on to Chicago for resources. We have nothing for emergency housing and whatnot. Little town or 212 went to 467 people in 2 weeks time. I don’t know what the government people were thinking. They had tents and slept in the field ruining the wheat they had been planted. Got cold and they were gone fast. We don’t even have a school lol. When I say nothing I literally mean nothing. Even the post office is 12 miles away.

Also as a person born in Alaska, I'd hate to see this. There's a homeless camp next to a boy's and girl's club, I'd usually give somebody money from time to time, but all I see is the homeless vaping and smoking, putting their life away just for a simple smoke. It just hurts me to see that.
@PTG-ze1di
@PTG-ze1di 6 ай бұрын
@@AkSpace47You're obviously a kid so I can see why you think like this, but no one is homeless just because they smoke. It's a lot more complicated than that. Yes drugs are widely used by the homeless, but being outside in the freezing cold, drugs are one of the only ways to get a bit of comfort. Then once people are addicted it is hard enough to stop with a stable life, near impossible to when homeless. There is not one single homeless person who could get off the streets by simply stopping "vaping and smoking".

@hadley407 I live in the area and here's the update from this winter: we had a record breaking snowy winter. Total accumulation is over 130" of snow. The homeless population is continuing to grow as utility prices, groceries, and housing increases. Along with record snow, there was record homeless deaths unfortunately. It's a major issue here. These people are trapped. I don't think the contiguous realizes that to drive from Anchorage, through Canada, just to get through the border in Washington is a 40 HOUR drive. That drive would also require a passport. One way plane tickets are several hundred dollars. In February we had 3 straight weeks of -10 to -25 degrees. It was an absolutely brutal winter of being pounded with snow and freezing temperatures. I honestly don't know how anyone could have survived this winter outside. The city did manage to scramble and get more shelter space open this year. But it surely wasn't enough to accommodate everyone. Just to give you an idea of expenses here, I live in a very modest 25 yr old 1,500 sqft home. Our water is a flat rate $120/mo no matter your house or family size. Our total utilities every month average around $600. I keep my house on the colder side at 65 degrees too. Housing options are very bleak, especially anything affordable.

I am disabled and had brain damage since before I became homeless, and a lot of people seem to have the same kind of idea as OP about us... which is true for a number of cases but certainly not for all, and it's not a good reason to throw all of us under the bus. I've seen a lot of sh*t get blamed on us. Sh*t that doesn't even make sense for us to do, like drive out dozens of miles into the boonies and litter on a private local park; when it is very clear that the only people who can regularly use the park are living in the very homeless-unfriendly area. Hey people. Wanna know who throws most of the trash onto the street? PEOPLE STILL LIVING IN HOUSES. I've literally watched how people behave both on the streets and in comfortable homes... and it's absolutely more often that I see a comfortable person littering than any of us (who don't have regular access to waste disposal btw). The police have been tearing down trees and tearing up the landscape just to try and get the homeless people to force away, when what is likely the most important food bank in the city is only one or two blocks away. You don't get to oppress desperately poor people for existing, drive them away from what little resources there is for them to get, and then turn around and sh*t down their necks about every problem that a poorly managed capitalist society has naturally resulted in. You and I are no better than the lowliest pauper in the world. Maybe if any of you stopped to think about who you are and what you're really doing you'd we'd all be acting a little more human. It was hard then, in 2010, but what homeless people are dealing with now, is way beyond anything I dealt with and my heart at seeing these people.... they're human beings. It kills me when someone brushes them off and I always try to say something to make those who are callous, to make them think. I'm not in a position to help anyone, I'm still struggling to get out of poverty, but people like you give me hope one day, one day, I too can make a much bigger difference that a few measly dollars here and there to someone in need. I gave a man a bottle of water when I saw him standing with a sign, and I had long enough to observe him without his noticing. He wasn't idle, he actually picked up trash in the area he was standing in to gather it in a bag. I didn't have much but I gave $7. He called me an angel and I told him I'm definitely no angel, but I believe in karma, and I wanted him to keep the hope. Why people with everything can't help create more solutions is beyond me. Your work is vital. Please, keep going.

The thing is that severe mental health is a hard sell for people especially if drugs are added. Doesn't help that fueling addiction typically results in theft so if you don't want to be in a horrible situation that you need to kick them out or not even bother.

I understand completely. I have tried to help, as well. I volunteer, at habitat. The food bank, and now i volunteer at the shelter medical center as a medical asisstant. And i was homless in 1999 tol 2002, in seattle. Now it is so much more risky. It was a community on capitol hill. We had squats, not tents, until people would sneak in and burn them down. Either by homeless that dont care or racist groups that wanted us gone. I hoped to 3 squats. And slept in doorways for a few weeks. It sucked. And housing was a 4 year wait I was lucky, a friend helped me with housing. We got ahead and have been roommates since, to 3 different cities and 3 major uplifts of education and jobs. I may have debt but i had a job that will never disappear....til i got a bladder infection that turned into more...from infectins feom the hospital that ended up taking my ability to walk and now took my leg. Im disabled now. Luckily i worked and make a third my past income but its more than many. 1500 a month aint bad

We deal with elders all the time, the problem is when they have addictions they don't want to give it up so they spend all their money on alcohol and drugs, hence the reason why they get kicked out of their homes and on the streets. It is difficult to try and get them into homes cause nobody won't rent to them anymore, we run out of places for them to go or rent.

i was homeless in mn .. I was sleeping in my car... I woud warm it and shut it off. I stupidly thought i have a blanket i would be ok.. I woke in the morning, I couldnt feel my legs. I could barly walk. it was the most scary thing that happen to me. Regarding shelters. It dosnt matter what city you go to. They are full of people that are just drugged up and drunk .. there is fights and using.. for me it was more sane to just be out on the streets. I wouldnt even get food in the food lines. becuse it was just always full of drama. and i would walk. the homeless today is not like the homeless 20 years ago. We would not be infront of peoples faces. we would fear going to jail, or just embarrassing our selves. I have been clean for 20 years. and so there is hope for everyone, but its a choice. on the other hand for those who do want to live life and strive. our gov. makes it so hard to get housing. which is unnecessary... I had the money saved (5000$) to find a home, I have no credit score, no criminal back ground, no debt (paid it off), I have a income that i have had since 2005 and at least in minnesota it took me a month to find a home and i still had to ask someone to help me sign for me.. which is not what i wanted to do! I shouldnt have to! they make it so hard to get a home! which should be a right. Not a privilege

Alaska is my home. I worked at the large walmart in Anchorage in the bush department. I would shop for ppls orders, ring them up, package them and send them thru the post office to the remote villages. We were not allowed to send anything with any amount of alcohol in it to the villages. No vanilla extract, mouthwash, rubbing alcohol, etc. Alcohol is biggest addiction in Alaska, so many villages are "dry" villages (no alcohol allowed.) Alcohol is terrible up there.

As someone who was born and raised in Anchorage, I will say that there are opportunities for shelter and most of the time they do refuse help. I feel so deeply for these people and the issue that caused this event was that there was a high volume of crime happening in and afound the “tent city.” And one of the main reasons that the sulivan shut down as a homeless shelter is because, A. COVID restrictions have basically ceased and the sulivan needs to go back to being a sports center, and B. When it was being used as a shelter the place was trashed. All the copper piping was stolen, things were destroyed, lit on fire and the sulivan isnt able to function as a sports center to the same extent anymore because of the after affects of using it as an impromtu shelter. And while I do not agree with alot of the things mayor bronson has done I do understand why he felt this was the only thing to do because past mayors have tried to give aid and it just made the homeless problem worse. While it is hard to believe, the truth is that the majority of the homeless cummunity refuse to adhere to the conditions required to get help and claim that no one has offered it. And unfortunately this has made it incredibly hard for people who want help to get the help they need.

While I do not agree with the timing of destroying that tent city and the short 10 day notice, as the one older gentleman stated he had lived there for two and half years. It makes me wonder how many others have done the same and considered this their way of life. 4:51 Tyler stated, "So many homeless unsure of their survival plan this winter". Plan?! It seems some (many? most?) never had a plan to begin with which should not come as a surprise to anyone.

I may be mistaken but I believe that this tent city was shut down due to it being on the edge of the military base. The homeless there was causing so much trouble for the gates and the base that the city was given an ultimatum. There are services for the homeless, but many of them refuse help. The Sullivan arena was destroyed last year by the homeless population and there are rumors going around the trades that they are determining if the whole arena needs to be rebuilt. Northway mall was closed due to the owner having to spend money to repair it from vandalism and losing their biggest customer. Carrs moved out of northway because of theft and vandalism and could not justify keeping the store open due to how much they were losing.@@nightwines

Confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and ask forgiveness for your sins and Turn away from your sins. If you sin again after asking forgiveness of that sin, ask forgiveness again and try not to do it ever again. Jesus will forgive you! 3. When you go to alaska, you won’t see that many homeless people, because they die every harsh winter. The mental health of people in this state are in danger, especially in the youth.. long, dark, snowed in winters that last half a year and three hours on sunlight leads to depression, physical abuse, drug abuse.. this state needs help. The kids need help. Thank you for this video.

This was his first video I have seen that I had gotten emotional and started to tear up over. I live in an area of canada where it can get down to -30 to -40 in January/February and I deeply feel for these people. Even stepping outside your home in the dead of winter at these temperatures in your snowsuit to your vehicle can hurt the cheeks, nose, eyes, fingers, and toes so badly. One can only experience this level of cold to really understand it... The fact that these people rarely get a chance to escape that level of cold sounds like a true nightmare.

I live in Alaska and was really surprised to see this one was from here! It's wild to see familiar places on such a big youtube channel. It also offers perspectives that even some locals haven't seen or aren't aware of. It's really unfortunate to see the conditions these people have to live in, and how rampant the drug abuse is. I live in Wasilla (roughly an hour from Anchorage) and I personally try not to go to Anchorage much, because I've felt unsafe so many times in different areas of Anchorage. A lot of the drugs and violence have moved out this way as well, as the population grows.

Great reporting, I was literally just talking about this problem in the Northeast, which is also cold in the winter, like you could freeze tonight, but Alaska sleeping outside and in tents is just insanity! I've slept in my car in sub zero temps because I got stranded, it's doable, but wow do I have an appreciation for the homeless who do it every night. Our country literally could feed, house and help all these people, but we choose to let them freeze, and we give billions of dollars to other countries.

But unfortunately many Native Alaskan Indians moved into town then because they lost their villages and way of living. Alcohol has always been a problem there. This makes me sad.

Most journalists here these days talk to hundreds of people, only showing maybe two or three people (usually with opinions the interviewer or the interviewer’s network agrees with) and then they post an article about how they personally feel on the topic or situation; and their opinion often perfectly aligns with the political beliefs of the majority shareholders or owners of whatever news network owns them. Most journalists in America don’t care about reporting to the citizens honestly. I’m talking about Republican and Democrats as well; it isn’t exclusive to any side of the political spectrum. Politicians recognize that journalists in this era of technology especially; can almost completely control what the basic citizens of any city believe. @mysisterisafoodie
@mysisterisafoodie 6 ай бұрын
@@dannytuithof9587the housing crisis is barely because of immigration. It’s because the Netherlands is a tiny ass country with too many people and too little land. Immigrants aren’t buying up property in the Netherlands and causing the housing crisis? Immigrants that can afford to purchase houses would be highly skilled immigrants, who are good for an economy, and in the last year (2021-2022) there were only 30,000 highly skilled immigrant visas issued in NL. That certainly isn’t the source of a housing crisis. The rest of immigrants are probably being set up in social housing, which would result in a social housing crisis, but not the current state which is a housing crisis in both the welfare system and also in the private rental system, and the private home ownership system, Yes, the crisis is exacerbated by the influx of refugees from Ukraine (these are not immigrants but refugees, and it’s the governments decision to offer them priority for subsidies for rent over citizens), the influx of international students (these are students, not immigrants and they take up some part of student housing but only 33% of international students stay in NL after their studies). The crisis is mostly because the number of people per household is decreasing, so as previously there would be one house needed for five people, to accommodate those same five people now, 3 houses would be needed (two pairs and one single). Further, older people are staying in their homes longer (there just isn’t any space in nursing homes, as life expectancy increases and occupancy is at max capacity), meaning recirculating of property into the market is slower. And also construction companies are not building new houses (because of high inflation and construction costs, profit margins are low, therefore construction companies are on a go slow until it becomes lucrative for them again). There’s a lot of factors at play, but blaming immigrants means you haven’t looked into the issue. The government has failed year after year to build the necessary houses for its citizens needs, or at the very least subsidize some goods for private construction (like the cost of buying land if you want to construct multiple houses, or reducing taxation for builders looking to build multihome units) to incentivize building. Every year they have been falling short, right now we have a shortage of 360,000 homes. But my 2030 it will be a shortage of 980,000 homes. So I’d advise you to really do whatever you can, get steady employment and buy now, because it’s not going to get better from here.

I used to be homeless and I live in Minneapolis. Our weather is similar here, -20 -30 winds in winter here sometimes. People did freeze to death when I was out there. People lost fingers etc. I always had hot-hands and heated gloves. But also, I was never an alcoholic and so I could buy what I needed. They really do need places for people to go inside, regardless of whether they have other issues like addictions or mental illnesses, it’s not ok to let anyone freeze to death. I don’t drink, or don’t anything, so I never did think I was warm when I wasn’t. If you drink outdoors in -20 it fools you and you get frostbite. They have so many vacated malls they could reuse all over. If they go in and sweep these camps they need to help people relocate. And make sure no people are laying there so they aren’t killed. Giving notice to people who might have mental illnesses and not even remember or pay attention to the notice, then bulldozing, dangerous. They could accidentally bulldoze someone, even a child, animals. It reminds me of the scoops scene from Soylent Green, it’s sick. A lot of these people are clearly natives too it’s really wrong for anyone to be living this way. I lived this way in the past. The only reason I ever ended up not, was being I didn’t have addictions holding me back, and I know some really good people in life. Help these people! Don’t send them to the mainland and call that a solution.

I saw a comment thread, where people were blaming addiction as a choice. Tbh, i felt the same way before my alcohol addiction. It's not easy, the headspace you're in constantly. Depression and anxiety constantly sinking it's teeth in your neck. You turn to substances to calm your nerves. Before you know it, your brain gets hooked on that state of delirium and aloof euphoria. Just ruining your body with every drink. I had a serious problem for months where i was downing atleast 1/3 of a bottle of hard liquors every night. I swear one day when i felt my stomach bulge, i googled symptoms of it being my liver was overworked and probably damaged. From that day onwards, i stopped drinking on a whim. I still drink, but it's more occasion beased, Maybe once in a few months. but apart from that, it was the hardest thing to quit. I was not able to sleep, my head was constantly hurting as i tried my best to stop reaching for the cabinet. Within 3 months i was finally free of the curse. And for a full year i felt like vomiting whenever i smelt alcohol. I can't compare my addiction towards drugs that actually fry your body and brains to bits, but i can empathise with people who suffer from such additions because i know how painful the recovery phase is

When I got my wisdom teeth removed as a teen, those worthless dumbasses put me on a shit ton of hydrocodone for my recovery period. For 3 days my mouth swelled up more and more and it didn't cut the pain, just made me so out of it I didn't care i was hurting. I was having dramatic mood swings, brief violent outbursts, and long gaps in my memory. Coordination was off, and I could think when I was aware but I couldn't always talk. I got dehydrated because I physically couldn't ask for help. After 3 days I had a moment of clarity, the ability to talk, and was with my grandma all at once by luck and I said "I wonder why I'm feeling like this". She said "it might be the pain meds." At the next scheduled time to take the hydros I instead took two ibuprofen. Within two hours the pain had completely ceased, the swelling reduced by half, and my mind was completely clear. I threw the rest of the pills in the garbage right then, and thank God I did. The scary part? In those three days I had an obsessive compulsion to take more and more pills. I don't know if I did at times, but when I took them on schedule I would think "one more, just take two more, take the next dose in an hour instead of four." At meals I just wanted pills. For two. Fucking. Weeks after I would find myself coming home, going to the medicine cabinet and grabbing where I had once kept the bottle, but now there was only air. I'd go to the bathroom, open the cabinet and mime grabbing. Go upstairs after a meal, go the the cabinet and mime grabbing the bottle, without realizing what I was doing until after. The desire to swallow a pill was so bad I would give in by swallowing a few vitamin c capsules, and it would quiet the feeling for a bit If I was in a hopeless place in life and had easy access to a continued prescription I'd be a raging homeless addict right now. Doctors and the system they proliferate are evil to their core. Every doctor my mother has been to for minor surgery and her 3 childbirths have tried to prescribe her weeks of opioids or oxycodone, and she has always shamed them and gone with ibuprofen and asprin.

@@CarterCarter-xn3sg nah mate! I respectfully disagree. Choice is something we take with a grain of salt considering most people that suffer from such lethal addictions never had a choice. Most of these people don't choose it as a fun activity. It's a way for them to feel better about themselves when life is pulling them down. Just imagine being broke, worried about feeding yourself or your family. Don't know when you could find a decent place to sleep. All these things matter when you don't have them. As I said, having a home and 3 meals everyday, I legitimately had a hard time understanding this too. But with my lesser life threatening experience, I must say it was a struggle to get off the sauce. In my case I had a choice, I won't deny it, because I chose to drown my sorrows even though I had to the resources in my life to divert my hurt with something more hobby oriented or skill based. But these people clearly don't have that choice, it's extremely circumstantial based on how miserable their life is given they have no home. Then they get addicted to narcotics because it feels like their only way out. Because addiction to inebriation is clearly about escaping what reality is dishing out to you, and some people can't handle it without support. Why do you think a person alone in the world without family or friends, if they end up like this, who will help them? When you have no one around to help you fight tough times, the mental anguish and the physical pain get medicated falsely through drug abuse. It's easy to point fingers, and I can understand we think we would make the right choice under similar circumstances, but placing yourself in their shoes offers a fresh perspective trust me.
