When I grew up we were lucky if there was what was called a swamp cooler in the school room. But there were no central air conditioners in those days. Few Vehicles had it.💲 Certainly not school buses we didn't have tinted windows or white roofs. I don't remember anyone complaining we were always outside. And it's no hotter today. Do not let them tell you it's hot. Pay no attention to those ever-changing colors on your weather map. Every few years it looks hotter despite there's little no temperature change. These people need programs for an extended period to help their brains heal before they can make good decisions. That’s one of the factors to why they continue to relapse and eventually give up. That and they hear the rumors about being tied down to a hospital bed and don’t want to go but they never remember that part anyway. The process of recovery is mostly a forgotten 3-6 month period. They need to just go and do it and in 6-12 months they will then begin to have brain cells firing once again to where they can reflect. It’s not an easy road. 12 hours isn’t shit.

As someone who was homeless in their early 20's (I am now almost 40 and a middle class homeowner), all I can say is thank you for doing these videos on homelessness. People don't properly understand the problem. I didn't have a drug or mental health problem, I just lost family support, my car got stolen, then I lost all my identification which prevented me from getting a job, and it spiraled from there. Soon enough I found myself sleeping in a handicap bathroom at a public park in Franklin, TN. There is a stigma that all homeless people are crazy or on drugs... and though there's obviously a lot of truth to it, the misconception is that the mental illness or drugs are the cause of them being homeless. Many times the origin is more due to chance or intolerance like gay teens being abandoned by their religious parents, or a woman trying to flee from an abusive partner, or for a specific example in NY I met a divorced homebuilder who wound up financially upside down after the 2008 crash and wound up homeless, or a brilliant computer programer who struggled to maintain a job because of social quirks due to being fairly deep on the spectrum. The trauma of becoming and maintaining homelessness can be crippling mentally and can lead to permanent mental illness over time. It took me a better part of a decade to get over my trauma from it. Similarly the substance abuse sometimes comes after becoming homeless simply to try and cope with the trauma. I have lived in Scottsdale for over a decade and the homeless population has exploded. Mainly since Covid. Before we got too busy being parents, my wife and I used to drop off food and supplies to whoever was sleeping on the bus stop near our house. This video inspired me to start doing that again.

I too was homeless in my early 20s; I'm now 41, married, have stable employment, am a homeowner, have a car, and am enrolled in college. In my situation, it really did come down to poor choices. I wasn't on drugs or did any illegal activity; I trusted the wrong people. It takes 1 bad decision, and you could end up homeless. Since I went through what I went through, I'm now in a state of mind of continuous improvement. For example, yes, I love my home, my husband, and everything I have. I am in college to have an even better opportunity for my family and myself. Never be simply content; if you have the chance to better yourself and keep climbing, then do it.

Gangs, people out of their minds on drugs, mental health issues etc All of that and still can’t imagine. I live semi close to this. I’m technically in the Phoenix suburbs, but far enough away that there’s no one homeless within at least 15 miles. So I was shocked to see how bad it’s gotten downtown. I googled The Zone this morning after watching this video, and found a few articles on just how bad it is and how gangs control rent for everyone’s tent space and if they don’t pay, they beat you up with a pole and burn down your tent. Apparently the business owners have had enough of the murders, and cleaning up what is now a biohazard and filed a lawsuit with the city of Phoenix. The city failed to clean up the zone multiple times within the past few hearings. The cops won’t even go down there to enforce anything anymore. No even about drug use. It’s insane. So now a Federal Judge has officially ordered the city to clean it up, and sweep away the tents and everything by November 4th. Which makes me wonder where the 1000+ homeless are going to go because they are refusing the beds that are available to them. It’s crazy. These guys are brave to step foot in there! Note: it is important to recognize that "help" and "programs" do not always apply or are not always available to anyone who needs it. Each program has a charter or outline of what it does and whom their resources apply. The gentleman going to school while living in his tent needs a specific set of assistance tools that those deployed in the area simply do not possess. It's due to what is considered "qualified". For example, drug treatment and medical assistance being offered to the older lady does absolutely nothing for the student who doesn't seem to be on drugs and seems mentally balanced. This is what is so aggravating about the American understanding of welfare, assistance, charity, etc. Unless/until you or someone you care about experience a need for which you/your loved one does not "qualify" you may not understand it.

When people say "slipped through the cracks", the cracks are the arbitrary rules or qualifications used by these programs. I live in Phoenix. I try to help the homeless with food when I can, but with two jobs, I can barely afford to feed myself. It's a never ending cycle. Tyler did not show the rampage of prostitution on the blade which is just heart breaking to see. This city is hell. There's no compassion.

I live just outside of Baltimore in a community that was created by Pelosi's father in the 1950s. County Executives forced Government funded housing on private home owners and now the neighborhood has become a drug infested war zone and the prostitution comes right along with it. We used to live in a nation where we supported people in our family and our community before helping others. However, I was a teen during the 1980s and we held hands across America, sang we are the world and began helping everyone except our own..... and look what happened!

There's no helping them unless you can help them kick their addiction or mental illness. It's just prolonging the cycle; a band-aid at best. As stated in the video and in pretty much all these investigations, the root cause is not that they are down on their luck, but that they are battling addiction/mental illness and utterly incapable of making crucial decisions that are good for them, like getting help and finding a job. There will be no end to their situation until that changes. I appreciate your compassion but there's not much point in helping this way. Always help yourself out first.

This applies to all people no matter what their circumstances are because of how hot it is. I have never seen someone turned away or not given water when they have come in and asked.

Tyler and Kevin, I firstly would like to commend you for the tireless, hard-working enthusiasm you both possess for dealing with the homeless issues that ravish many countries including here in Australia. There is a new 'Tent City just outside the glitter strip (Surfers Paradise) in a suburb called Southport on the sunny tourist capitol of Australia, Gold Coast. I don't live in tent city as I'm lucky in life and live in my house about 20mins south. I have watched 'Tent City's' presence grow with more and more crime in the area, the local Woolworths employing round the clock security for all kinds of reasons including thieving and robbing. The violence drug use is rampart and chaotic to say the least and I'm surprised there hasn't been a murder yet but give it only time. I know the answers lay deep within social culture moral and in turn creating ethical ones with policy and statutes, but I employ one notion that has always helped me when doing some outreach in my own ways and that is to not discount these people's strengths when asking them about the challenges that lay within. We should positively encourage them to pursue more tangible prospects like getting a (SRO) or group shelter just to get the feet facing in the right direction. Please keep doing everything you're doing and then get on the phone with your members of parliament and write those letters to congress together to invoke change in policy. It's people like you that show us where inspiration is. Shoutout to the cameraman/person and crew also.

I’ve been in the mental health system of Portland,or and have tried getting help before and that’s when I noticed how sketched the system was. You try asking for help, they “pretend” to help you by hear you out and listening to your story and your issues and that’s just about it- they don’t actually help you, especially when they don’t even know what your doing. I’ve been through therapist, psychologist, etc. They have these huge degrees and all but in the end they can’t even help you or offer you any advice and a lot of them have a bad attitude with you cause they’re probably sick and tired of dealing with people like you. Ever since I was 11 years old I had mental issues and no one knew I had autism, I learned that online and now my son has it and I am trying to get help for him but the system makes it so difficult even though they advertise that help is always available but in reality it really is not- it’s just there to make themselves look “good”

This is interesting because it (unfortunately) confirms the greater problem with mental health needs relative to availability. The "availability" consists of commercials, brochures, and hotlines for people "in crisis." Such "services" and "outreach" keeps a suicidal person from hurting self or others, but just for that day. The real problem is clear after that moment has passed, and there's few to no services available to address the needs or situation which drove a person to suicidslity in the first place. If that isn't addressed, the person remains at risk, or maybe they find themselves in the situation the people in this presentation find themselves in. To me, the problem is that there are fewer services needed by ever more people, yet what's available is "just for today" help, nothing long term. Seeing this, knowing how easily even working folks trying to be careful can find themselves on the streets - this is angering, embarrassing, and heart-breaking. 😓💔

It touches my heart so deeply to see people working so hard to help get people off the streets and into safer situations!! 🥺 this video hurt my heart and restored my faith in humanity at the same time. Need to look into good (actually helpful) charities to donate to in phoenix to help these poor peeps get out of that horrible death trap of a desert ❤ god bless the folks working so hard to save these people from the desert!!

I was homeless in Florida for a while. I went to rehab, got my life back together, and now id like nothing more than to help some of these people.

Thank you for showing the ending with Community Bridges. A lot of people don't understand it's going to take outreach and services similar like that to get people off the streets. They're not all bums exploiting social services, which is how some people like to portray them. They're real people with real mental issues and severely need real help.

Yes but homeless people saying no is unacceptable, if they refuse they should be sent away off the streets into the bushes. It's a two way street. Permissive culture is wrong. Society needs to start asking more of people. Homeless, addicts, mentally ill people who choose this life need tough love not choices. Once their head's right they'll be thankful.

Heat stroke is no joke! I was almost there. Started getting cold and I knew, in 115° weather something was very wrong. Just then a man pulled up and offered me a ride. Normally, I'm not getting in a stranger's car! But I thought I was not going to do well continuing to walk. He dropped me off at my home 2 miles away. You know, I do believe it was mid August, probably the anniversary of that tomorrow. I took a quick, somewhat cool shower and went outside briefly. (It was 6 by then, slightly cooler) just so I wouldn't be afraid of the sun. I was in my 20s, about 25 years ago. . . The man was from Africa, i do not remember which country and he worked at the MGM casino. (I am from Las Vegas.)

Much love to your exposure and the outreach. Having a brother who was homeless with mental health it took years to get him back stable and off the streets. He's now been stable and off the streets for five years. It took alot of effort to get him to accept help.

At first I thought the title was because it’s so massively hot… It’s horrific to think of people throwing living humans in a dumpster and burning them alive! 😱
